annoluce Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Hi, I'm using BS2 in DCS World, v 1.2.2. I'm running it on a i7 2600 oc @4.8 GHz, with a double Crucial M4 SSD, 16 GB ram Corsair vengeance, and a crossfire of 2 HD6870. So far, so good in single player: apart from the fact that I can't get the crossfire work on BS2, I get a solid 45/55 FPS most of the time in my single player sessions. This is using a single card with crossfire off. When it comes to multi though, things get odd: sometimes I get 45 fps, sometimes (and I don't change any config or setting!!) I start at 30, but average is 20/25. WTH? I know that it depends on the mission, and also on the number of players (sorry: pilots :-) ), but it seems like a ceiling cut-off, more than poor performance, as if it was set as a maximum level. But the mission maximum fps is set to 60 or, in general, has no limits. I immediately recognize when things go smoothly, because when I enter the pit I immediately see a 45 fps, otherwise it is set to 30 and then during the mission it can only get worse. What happens? Can someone help me exploiting down to the last hertz of my rig?? Thanks, Max
tietze Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 As you have experienced crossfire (or NVidia's SLI for that matter) does simply not work with DCS (World). In my experience multiplayer framerates have always been a tad lower when going into multiplayer. That said I must admit that the general framerate seems to be much more smooth in multiplayer in the new 1.2.3.9871 version of DCS World just released. For me still a significant framedrop persist with low level flying 1-3m when dust is generated (which is probably related to the smokecloud.pfx, that can be moved/deleted/renamed to resolve this). tietze Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Second thought. Something else might be going on here: I'm seeing my 1GB VRAM maxed out all of a sudden (checking with GPU-Z). This causes some drops in FPS probably because textures are loaded and unloaded more frequently. Please fix the KA-50 bugs :-) Black Shark: Controller profile & setup, TrackIR profile, pit. Boberro Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Is there way to force game to use whole RAM? If I have 8 GB or 16 I'd like to use it all to make loading various things smoother. I see now my DCS takes 2-3 GB of RAM only... :( Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... seikdel Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I used a couple of different ramdisk programs with mixed results. While the loadtimes were goregous (not perfect, but goregous), the programs themselves were a pain to use. I haven't found a cheap/free program that will take care of the disk on startup/shutdown. If you have an afternoon of gaming/simming ahead of you, it's worth the time to set it up. If you're just hopping in for a half-hour break, not so much.
tietze Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Imdisk is opensource and free: http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/#ImDisk But DCS weighing more than 8GB is a tad to big for a ramdisk in my system. Boberro Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I guess you could use something like AMD's RAMDISK http://www.radeonmemory.com/software_4.0.php i've never tried this myself so i've no idea how it'll go :) Yes I am aware of such things, now using RAMDISK for Firefox, I created 500 MB for its temporary files, because they'd be loaded faster from RAM than disk. The only limitation of these tools is big re-load time. Every start of game, full installation of DCS folder would have had to be transfered from HDD to RAM disk. Typical transfer is between 20-30 MB... so it'd take long time. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... If the ramdisk is working correctly and depending on your harddisk you should probably see speeds around 100mb pr/second. annoluce Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 Thank you. I'll see what I can do, and see if after installing 1.2.3 things will get better. m
