I have tried to get my speed up from 245 MPH. I have adjusted the two levers that I know to adjust it the throttle handle in conjunction with the P-knob knowing they are interrelated. Been told, set for around 45MP@2700RPM but me at 2700RPM I get 57MP. Is there a third knob to adjust? I can have 45MP but can't get engine to 2700RPM and visa versa. I have noticed a rotation with the throttle leverwhen I hit / like as in a motorcycle throttle does that give it a little extra boost?

Please advise.

Thank you.

That rotation on the throttle is a gun sight adjustment.

Otherwise, it would probably be best to post a track so people can see what is going on in your cockpit.

45"@2700 RPM is maximum continuous power.

For maximum speed, you want takeoff power: 61"@3000 RPM. If the speed is high, you shouldn't have any cooling problems, but if you run that power at lower speeds, you'll overheat quite quickly.

The motorcycle grip thing is to adjust the gun sight range setting.

If you REALLY want maximum speed, you'll have to engage WEP. Just don't expect your engine to last long.

Look in the controls setup. I have mine on a button, so I don't remember the key.

You must be doing something wrong. AFAIK, 2700 RPM and 46 inHg should give excess of speed you're asking for. Just a friendly reminder that throttle follows RPM and not the other way around.

Do keep in mind, throttle and "P" are 2 seperate controls and the prop pitch handle influences the engine only indirectly.

With the throttle you just set the ammount of MP you want the engine to generate.

As the 51 is equipped with a constant speed propeller, the governor will then try to keep the RPM, you previously set with the prop pitch handle "P", where it was set to.

I think the governor has an operational range from 1600 to 3000 RPM, but don't quote me on that I may very likely be wrong on the low end.

Try it for yourself, set like 2100 RPM with the "P" handle and 35" MP with the throttle, then quickly advance the throttle to 50" MP.

You should notice a slight jump in the RPM, followed by it returning to 2100 RPM.

That's the governor in action, adjusting prop to a higher (coarser) pitch, in relation to the now higher power output from the engine.

As WildBillKelsoe said, set RPM first to 2700, then adjust MP to 45".
