Prophet_169th Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I would think the season override the regular, if you have the season pack?
Prophet_169th Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 it will only take a few hours, I just started trying to make a skin, but if everyone got working on a file......... hehe
Pilotasso Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Im trying to conver the WHOLE BMP pack, ill leave TGA out. I may have some trouble doing it so the more people doing the same the better. Its a heavy work. My PC Is being pwn'ed BIG TIME. .
D-Scythe Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Just a question...: Are ED people aware of "this"?. I think it would be GREAT if ED, officially, takes care of these new findings in order to improve the overall fps performance. Specially thinking of the next (more CPU/GPU demanding) Black Shark. Yes, ED is aware of this. I don't think that they'll condone the release of someone releasing all their textures in one pack, but I've manually handpicked a few (345 in all, mostly from landtextures.BMP) and may put them up for download so an OFFICIAL test can be made of it. The file is about 15 mB in size. The textures picked are associated with cities and ground units. Thus, if we can prove definitively that it does raise the min FPS in an environment of buildings and vehicles, then maybe ED will take interest in it. As it is now, I don't think ED will allow mass reproduction of every single texture (and offering them for download) without good reason - they have rights to them afterall.
Pilotasso Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Is there a way to pack all processed BMP textures back to CDDS quicker? .
D-Scythe Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Is there a way to pack all processed BMP textures back to CDDS quicker? MODMAN/LOMAN? I know LOMAN 2.1 does it all in one go.
Pilotasso Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Let me get this straight: I will target all files at the same time to temptextures at once. And then when I try apply the addon Loman will compare if there are files of the same name in the CDDS and, intead of going to temptextures they go directly to the CDDS automaticaly? .

Pilotasso Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 No, I wasnt certain how it worked. I have used LOMAn very few times, even less to make MOD's myself. Im making the entire BMP file 8 bit re-process and put it into a LOMAN pakage. The thing is going to be humongous. I hope loman doesnt choke on it. .
emenance Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 maybe someone will be able to make this a mod loman can install ? :) Asus P8Z68-V GEN3/ 2500k 4.4ghz / Corsair 64gb SSD Cache / Corsair 8g 1600 ddr3 / 2 x 320gb RE3 Raid 0 /Corsair 950w/ Zotac 560TI AMP 1gb / Zalman GS1200 case /G940/
Pilotasso Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 maybe someone will be able to make this a mod loman can install ? :) I'm making it. Most is donne but I still need to pack the summer and winter textures. One funny thing is that many of the textures are miss-Indexed by LOMAN from the the CDDS texture I took them from. I had to manualy correct it under "catalog file" for each file in the addon maker. I did this about 700 times!!!! :icon_hang I only have time to test all this tomorrow. My fingers hurt right now. I hope this yelds some practical results...:icon_hang .

Pilotasso Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=12411 Read this ;) Perhaps you are right but then the FPS from 1.1 to 1.11 wasnt much different but 1.11 is a quantum leap in playability in terms off stuttering elimination. If you dont mind I'll see this for myself. Again even if you are right. ;) .

Pilotasso Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Heres why there is no difference: LOMAN converts all BMP back to 16 bit when packing the CDDS!!! What tools has ED used? .
D-Scythe Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Heres why there is no difference: LOMAN converts all BMP back to 16 bit when packing the CDDS!!! Hmm, yes, it does. Can't believe I overlooked that.
Pilotasso Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Is there a way to generate a CDDS in 8 bit? LOMAN also complaints that some files to not match the originals in size and they get spewed to temptextures folder. We better sort out a solution because we could be a step away from a breakthrough. .
D-Scythe Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I don't think it's LOMAN's or CDDS fault. It seems to be the DDS conversion tools that's causing problems. At DXT1 format, as all BMP.DDS files are in Lock On, all BMP textures get "unBrighted".
Pilotasso Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 So what what can we do about this? I dont think leaving the textures in BMP is a good idea. Because while its lighter on the graphics card its also bigger files in the HD wich will increase the loading times as some people in this thread already noticed. Getting them all to CDDS 8 bit would be perfect. what are the prospects for this? p.S. : going to sleep...very tired... 2:30 am :bored: .
Prophet_169th Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 So what about just leaving the files in temptextures?
D-Scythe Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 So what about just leaving the files in temptextures? Then the textures will always be rendered with maximum detail. It's the textural equivalent of eliminating all its LODs. With DDS, objects further away can be rendered in less detail to save space. If you simply put the BMP files into Temptextures, the objects will always have its largest, most detailed BMP "on".

But as long as you don't load anything new the game has much higher fps then normal... but as soon as you look at something "new" you get very low fps as the game starts to load all the textures. So if we just can get the files back in the cdds' while retaining 8-bit color we should have a pretty nice fps increase :) i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
