Ranma13 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) I've been using a TrackIR 5 with a track clip attached to a hat, and although the experience is improved over using the numpad to look around, it's still sub-optimal. In particular, I run into these issues: 1. When I zoom in with a z-axis slider, the camera zooms in on the UFC instead of the HUD. As a result, when doing gun runs, I have to tilt my head up and point my eyes downwards in order to see the pipper. This is about as awkward as it sounds. 2. I can look left and right with ease, but the vertical movement is really constrained because the sensor stops picking up the track clip. This makes it hard to look straight up as well as down at the left and right panels. I often find myself twisting my head in odd positions so that the game can focus on some switch or button properly, and I've all but given up on looking straight up. 3. When looking at the left and right panels, due to the issues mentioned in #2, I can't zoom in without getting out of the sensor's range. This makes it especially problematic to zoom in on the CDU or the radios on the left panel. I'm using the default TrackIR 5 settings for DCS. Is there any advice you guys can give on how I can improve the tracking so that I don't run into these limitations? Edited March 11, 2013 by Ranma13
SmokeyTheLung Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Unfortunately I'm not enough of an expert to give you a proper tutorial. But I will suggest that you acquaint yourself with the TrackIR software and start creating a custom profile. It sounds like increasing the sensitivity on both the X and Y axes will solve issues 2 and 3. Issue number 1 might simply take some getting used to. Mt5_Roie Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Here, I had the same issues with my new track IR5. Try this profile. Place it in C:/ProgramFiles/NaturalPoint/TIR5/Profiles The zip contains other profiles just choose the A10 profile. Then close TIR 5 software. Re-open it and select the A10 profile. Make sure exclusive is checked so that in the game it won't go back to default. Evil.Bonsai Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 apart from using an optimized profile, you might need to move your sensor, if possible. The closer you are to it, the less it can see.
dr_After Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 1. When I zoom in with a z-axis slider, the camera zooms in on the UFC instead of the HUD. As a result, when doing gun runs, I have to tilt my head up and point my eyes downwards in order to see the pipper. This is about as awkward as it sounds. I use two types of zoom: 1. Zooming by TrackIR, that is helpful when I want to see my MFDs 2. Zooming by the Lever on Hotas Warthog Throttle - to zoom the HUD. This combination works well for me. 2. I can look left and right with ease, but the vertical movement is really constrained because the sensor stops picking up the track clip. Increase sensitivity in vertical axis (Y), it will help. I'm using the default TrackIR 5 settings for DCS. Is there any advice you guys can give on how I can improve the tracking so that I don't run into these limitations? Launch TrackIR5, launch DCS, ALT-Tab to TrackIR (it will hide in Your tray but You can doubleclick it to maximize), adjust Your axis, ALT-Tab.. repeat until happy. Don't gforget to use some smoothing, the view will not be as jumpy. Important: DCS A10C World with Warthog is recognized by TrackIR5 as Black Shark 2, so If You make some changes and save it as Your profile You will need to assign it to BS2, or TrackIR will switch to default every time You run Warthog. After 4 days of using TrackIR5 I am completely happy with this solution. But it needs tweaking. Default profile is unusable for me :)

WildBillKelsoe Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 1. When I zoom in with a z-axis slider, the camera zooms in on the UFC instead of the HUD. As a result, when doing gun runs, I have to tilt my head up and point my eyes downwards in order to see the pipper. This is about as awkward as it sounds.Unmap trackIR Z from Controls/Axis/Absolute horizontal camera view (or its original axis), and remap trackIR_Z to Zoom View. Now you zoom both cockpit and HUD at once. Increase trackIR Y axis to above FAST template and lower curvature height and increase smoothness. test as you go. I had this problem. The other solution would be to map a trackIR center F7 (was it?) to one of your HOTAS commands. Oh, and don't forget you can lower/raise your cockpit seat from the AVTR panel. 3. When looking at the left and right panels, due to the issues mentioned in #2, I can't zoom in without getting out of the sensor's range. This makes it especially problematic to zoom in on the CDU or the radios on the left panel. Same as number 2 but for Yaw and X axes. Make them crazy ultra-sensitive, and adjust with smoothness and curve up/down. I'm using the default TrackIR 5 settings for DCS. If so, you would sustain spinal injury. I suggest you change your ergonomics too. From what I read you are too close to the camera. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below.
