DieHard Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) Where are the trains, either Single Player or Multiplayer in DCS World? -OR- How to create a rolling train in the Mission Editor? I have only seen one server in DCS World Multiplayer online, once, actually have a moving train on it. I fly the 104th, <51>, 59th Dedicated, and the 74th servers. Yesterday, in the latest update for DCS World, using the Instant Action, Free Flight quicky, using the Ka-50 Shark, Single Player, not online, I found a moving passenger train proceeding southeast of Sukhumi air base. The in cockpit Ka-50 clock time was about 3:09 PM. Temperature is +9 ticks past zero flying in a foggy haze. Fahrenheit or Celsius---I do not know. I am guessing +14 degrees Celsius? I started the flight at 3PM. Caught up with the train just southeast of the coastal Sukhumi air base, at a flight speed of 231 kph, 34 meters off the deck, on the way to Batumi. One passenger train each way, one going northwards, one southwards, they passed each other on separate railroad tracks at Ahali-Kindgi, my cockpit clock time was 3:16PM and I slowed down to 37 kph, as I wanted the southeastward train to catch up with me, since I passed it. Southbound train was traveling at 64kph. PVI-800 windspeed is 119 degrees at 2kph. Using full Realism, the autopilot 3-amigos on, using Flight Director, I tried landing on a passenger car's roof on the train going northbound. I did a few times on top of, then dropping down through the car, but I never landed copter on TOP of the passenger train. I landed on the flat roof of a building in a siding area and on the Russian aircraft carrier to refuel, which I did. I did try to see if the bridge was "soft" while on "top" of a car hovering along and killed the last 2 cars and me, when I hit the trestle bridge. I actually stopped the train and uncoupled one car in front of my copter. From that point on for about an hour of messing around, no more trains came through. Me stopping the train, I was wondering if I messed up the train occurrence time table? I also tried going through a tunnel---LOL! That did not end well... While editing this, this morning, I started up a new flight to double-check my info. When I attempted to land it this time, the southbound passenger train's roof is hard and I broke my right landing gear, not getting it correct. Go figure. Tried to land copter on roof of passenger car again northbound, went down through, roof was not hard. The southbound train turned around at Ochamchira at 3:31PM and headed back northwards. Why? Canned mission? ================================== Are the trains actively moving in Multiplayer? Or the mission designer's prerogative? ================================== Previous Trains' Timetable Request http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73121 Older post, a timetable created by 666th_birdy: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=19057 Wish I could see the working copy he created. NRG-Vampire Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 what's your plan ? a special train ? :) ask him ;) http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?p=1197020#post1197020
DieHard Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Plan? Land helicopter on a rolling flat-bed train car or attempt to as the YouTube videos illustrate. I practice flying to and fro down low iin FD in Ka-50 following train tracks and roads. This is quite useful if navigation is taken out and might not know where the rtb airfield is, just follow the train tracks or road back to base. Also, if real people in enemy fighter jets are around they probably know my flight plan direct to waypoints in Multiplayer. So I don't fly the pre-planned flight routes. One online flight sim I used to play had a very lethal machine gun on the trains. On the 104th's server, currently, the moving F10 map does not function on my end, maybe it is deliberate. There is no way to determine where I am if the terrain is unfamiliar. If my ABRIS and PVI-800 are dead, presents an interesting problem getting home. Or if engine damage and cannot get over the mountains, roads and RR usually follow lowland and valleys. I usually fly by myself. Radio would vector me home, I suppose. I do have a map, but I don't use it to navigate, much. Special train? Soul Train. LOL! And---I like trains. I obtained 666th_birdy's train schedule. So, now to go find the trains. NRG-Vampire Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 i though you need add-trains in mission editor, like add-vehicles which can use (move on) roads this would be useful to put trains (with different railway wagons) in missions which (of course) will use tracks
159th_Viper Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 No, trains are part of Civilian Traffic IIRC. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? BigfootMSR Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 There are/used to be, ploppable train cars and engines. I could never get them to couple up or even move on a track. Its possible to create your own stationary train, albeit an ugly disorganized beast, but possible. Hopefully it will get added in future for "protect the train of supplies" or "Blow up the enemy supply train" type missions. DieHard Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) Using the listings link: LOFC trains time-table.zip Located here, for FC2, Message #41: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=19057&page=5 The 3 separate listings, sometimes, the spellings of the cities are not correct compared to the DCS World's F10 or Ka-50 ABRIS maps, or Goggle maps. But my spellings below are from the .zip listings. I checked a few trains out, both passenger and cargo. In Options/Controls, if the CIV Traffic is set to, even, "Low", trains will appear in Single Player, Instant Action, Ka-50 free flight Sukhumi. I have seen the cargo train, with 3 flat-bed train cars, south of Sukhumi, from near Ochamchira go to just past Tvarcheli, but before where the RR tracks end, turn-around, go back to where the train started and then cycle itself, turn-around, and head for Tvarcheli, again. So, I am assuming the various trains, 55 in total, trains' schedules also cycle the trains when they return on their 1st round trip journeys. Most of the trains are on about a 30 minute one-way trip moving at about 70 kph or a bit slower, then they turn around. I have also followed the 6 hour northbound passenger train for quite a ways from south of Sukhumi where I met it passing the southbound train and just watch it roll. I was using the Ka-50, also, in the Single Player, Instant Action, Ka-50 free flight Sukhumi sortie. The trains do occur in other Single Player pre-set missions as the Single Player Mission, Battle.miz I left the battle area and headed north above Krymsk to find another rolling passenger train. The 2 Multiplayer servers, the 104th and the 159th did not appear to have the CIV Traffic turned on their server side, though I had it turned on in Options/Controls. I only checked whatever was playing on both servers, 2 nights ago. If I do not see the civilian traffic about, the trains are not running. I do not know the cities of the Black Sea area and have to use Google Maps to find the towns. Since the listing's cities, some of which are spelled wrong, this is quite a challenge. And not all the smaller towns are easily found. There are several cargo trains rolling above Anapa. Do not know if this is common knowledge, all 55 trains, with the many players in the sim. Somebody put a lot of effort into placing the trains. The trains I checked, they start in Single Player, about one minute after entering the sortie. The time does not seem to matter be it 8AM or 5PM. There is a couple minutes discrepancy between the listings' time-tables and my Ka-50 cockpit clock. Sometimes, I just get a kick flying the helicopter around the various areas. As I said in my 1st post, I got a moving train to actually uncouple one of the train cars I crashed my helicopter into and I stopped the train. Seems interesting to me the car uncoupled. I have not, yet, seen any siding cars actually move or change. That would be cool. I was working a machine shop next to a railroad in Kingston, NY during the buildup of the 1st Iraq war. There is a military arsenal just outside Albany, NY. They were sending train loads of tanks south, just like what are shown in the DCS World railroad sidings. That was cool to see. The whole wooden building shook when a train went by. Any close work, I had to stop work and wait for the train to pass. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
