Supersheep Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hi! What is the best way to climb to altitude and how do I handle trim during the climb? So climb with the stick at the cost of airspeed, or only add power when trimmed level, or trim up? The same question goes for descending. Ideally, I'd hold my speed (I think) and only loose altitude (in cruise! not dogfight). Is that what's done? Super- The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
Eddie Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Climb speed for the A-10 is 200 knots - 1 knot per 1000ft above MSL. For example, if you're climbing from 5,000ft to 15,000ft you start the climb at 195 knots and finish at 185 knots. You control the speed by adjusting pitch. 1

Supersheep Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 True. I make up for that with ugly flying, but that goes only so far. Thank you! The PVC Pipe Joystick Stand How to thread
WildBillKelsoe Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 My approach is to lock throttles in one position, raise the nose with stick, observe airspeed becoming constant or increasing, but not decreasing, and trim so G on HUD reads under 1.0, using the pitch scale as reference to speed available at current angle.
