I was so excited to fly in this simulator after I bought it but after installing it and finding out how terrible controls worked, I completely lost all interest. I spent hours trying to get my joysticks and pedals to work but still not nowhere. I've got a Saitek X45 and CH Pro Pedals. I have aileron and elevator controls but can't get rudder controls to work with my pedals. The pedals for some odd reason control the elevator and ailerons. I also can't get the prop control to work with either of the dials on the stick. I was so excited to try out this game because of how realistic it is but it just seems like the developers couldn't get something as simple as mapping out controls to work correctly.

I downloaded the Joystick ID# Swapper but have no idea how to use it. Its dissapointing that I buy a game expecting to be able to play it, but can't even do so because of the inability to map controls properly. Can anyone help?

They can and they have! It would seem you are doing something wrong ;)

Check that your rudders are mapped to 'rudder' and not to pitch or roll.

Multiple devices can be mapped to the same function and what DCS sets by default may not be what you want. You have to check.

You need to go to the axis settings for the plane you want to fly and set them for each of your input devices. Don't blame the development because you can't be bothered to set up your own controls. With how many controls you need to operate these planes there's no way the devs can predict how your exact combination of hardware should be set up.

Believe me, I calibrated the controls. I tried over and over but nothing would work. I didn't realize I can't set the controls in P-51-D Game, I have to set them in P-51-D Sim. Seems like an odd way to do it if you ask me. Why not have them both the same? It shouldn't matter if they are both the same. Oh well, I figured it out anyway. Seems to be working now.

I think they are different because there are different options. The game mode has dumbed down options so while you might want a function X on button Y on your stick in sim mode that function X may not be available in game mode and you want to map button Y with something else.

I have been trying to get my pedals to work too. I have read many posts and downloaded all the tools but I have been able to get my saitek pedals to just that rudders and brake.

I can see that the pedals are on ID #5 but it i see the game do the same.

I upgraded to Win 7 today and I think I have to re-install DCS A-10 because it is not starting up anymore.

but if anyone as an idea what I can do more to get my pedals to work please share.

No problem here. Laying the blame on the developers without doing any research or asking for help is a bit harsh.

I hope you were not referring to me. I am not blaming anyone. I would just like to get it to work :pilotfly:

It was more an implied narrative. But ANYWAY - the most plausible explanation is that you have some controller conflicts.

Have you taken a look to make sure that there are no axis conflicts between devices?

Also you want to make sure you have the right axis set up for the right controller.

I understand... What I noticed was that on the pedals the axis were called the same as on the stick. I downloaded the joy ID software and it shows the pedals as ID #5 and the Stick as ID #1.

let me reinstall and see what happens, thanks for your help

No worries. Best of luck! IDing the right axis for the job can be a bit difficult and will likely involve a bit of trial and error but it's worth it when you get there.

Heres a little tip if you're strugling its taken me 2 weeks of trawling through posts and topics to find the answers.

If using Saitek products makes sure you have the upto date software and programing software to goto their website and download if not once done make sure you restart to get it to take.

Next go into the game options and for all devices listed there clear everything and start from scratch most importantly don't bother trying to bind buttons in the game waste of time well sort of otherwise you limit the ammount of functions you can do espacially if you have the X52 pro.

Next back out of game making sure you save the clear functions first and give it a name easily remembered.

Now if using Saiteks programing software can be confusing this is why i said clear everything as you are going to assign functions in the Saiteks programing suite.

Now for my own simplicity i started at the top and worked down so the first button i look at is Trigger so i bind it to A then secound trigger to B and so on in alphabetical order, you will get to Z and run out so then you need to use numbers 1 to 0 then i used num pad 1 to 4.

The above are all assigned to mode 1 pinkie will need to be bound to shift either one just as along as you remember it remember here that shift only works with the joystick pinkie now so forget binding it in it won't do anything.

Moving onto mode 1 + pinkie which is shift creating your shift state here and not in game.

Now for this mode pick a modifier i used Right Control so the Trigger is now Right Control and A second trigger is Right Control and B all the rest are the same as the first ones but with Right Control input first then the next key am i making sense its late i can waffle alittle.

Now these can all be duplicated right across the programing software of Saitek it really is childs play once you've worked it out.

Now save it give it a name and back out, go down to ribbon where the joystick icon is click on and load profile the name should show up there.

Now fire up the game goto options then controls and select which ever you cleared out don't and i mean try to load any profiles here it won't work.

Now for example on my X52pro i have Mode 1 Toggle 3 which was bound to letter K in Saiteks software as Gear up, so in keyboard NOT JOYSTICKS forget its even there you only really need that for axis.

So click on the box in KEYBOARD for Gear Up click add and flick Toggle 3 up it will assign it to letter K simples yes and then do the same for the rest easy huh.

No comes the part which took me hours to work out so now I want to use Toggle 3 again forget about shift its already assigned to pinkie do not use it for anything else its gone.

So Mode 1 + Pinkie using Toggle 3 i have as Navigation Lights On so in keyboard again click box Navigation Lights on click add then flick up Toggle 3 yes i know its going to say its already being used as Gear Up this is where you need to add the MODIFIER so push Right Control on keyboard or which ever modifier you used, and the box that said K is already being used for gear up will disappear click ok and you will see in the box Right Control + K.

You have to assign the modifier you used in programing your joystick in the game options that way it gives you another fuction for that key K but that modifier also needs to be in the joystick to or you will be reaching for the keyboard everytime, this applies to all the functions for Mode 1 + Pinkie.

Make sure you save it and over right the previously cleared save oops and remember to open that one up before you start i am tierd and trying to remember what i did.

Ok so far so good all done but remember to use Toggle 3 as Nav lights on you will have to hold on to pinkie first try it out in the options and throw a few switches and you will see the white border highlight the one you assigned.

I hope the above makes sense as i have just returned from anight shift and slighly sleepy appologies for my punctuation spelling mistakes and grammer.

If someone whos not sleepy wants to edit this please do so but i will be putting up instructions myself as there seems to be alot of us that have the X52pro or other Saiteks and programing software looking for help.

Goodnight all PM me if you want some help and i will do my best.

ha I did find it, there was a axis assigned twice. I had to really compare things and it works fine. Again I never blamed the developers!

I think anyone suggesting that was aimed at the OP, not you.
