Soundtekk Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hi All, Can someone help please. I have installed Warthog on my mac running VM Ware and XP. The program opens but when I try to start Training, for example, it closes and comes up with a box saying: Warthog Error, and a box containing: An attempt to use a virtual PC has been detected. Please close all PC emulators and try again. If the error recurs, press "Error report" and send the report to product technical support. Does this mean I cant use it on my Mac??? Help please........... Thanks

cichlidfan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 You can use it on your Mac just fine. You will, however, need to install Windows (not as a VM). EDIT: I would recommend a 64bit version of Windows as well. AlphaOneSix Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 You will need to install Boot Camp and install Windows that way and dual-boot into Windows to run DCS games.
Sorin Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Most likely your VM Ware does not provide DirectX at all. I think none of the virtualization solutions does except Microsoft Hyper-V. But anyway DCS is way too demanding to run on a virtual PC with the current state of technology.
mcfly_98 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 DCS checks itself if its running in a VM. If DCS "see" a VM it terminates because of copyprotection. cu...

But anyway DCS is way too demanding to run on a virtual PC with the current state of technology. Well, VMware does even support redirection of GPU functions, directly to the underlying VideoCard, if you use the right one... as said plain and simple in the Error Message: "DCS detected a 'virtual PC' " and does not like the idea of being cloned / copied to multiple instances for the reason of copyright violation.:D Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
BBQ Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 This is really disappointing. Are there not any entrepreneurs out there creating software protection for gaming in virtual machines? I personally believe that open-source operating systems will become the standard in the future, and I've made a decision to scrap Microsoft Windows, and am currently running Ubuntu. When I need to run any Adobe products (I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber), I spin up a Windows 7 VM using VMware. It's on its own physical disk (Corsair Neutron SSD), has its own 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM, and 4 of the 8 processors dedicated to it running @ 5Ghz. The VM has direct access to my Nvidia 580, and a dedicated soundcard as well. Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, etc. all run as smooth as a hot knife through butter. I was really hoping to be able to also run my beloved DCS World in this VM; however, it looks now like I'll have to go the Dual Boot route.
MajkStone Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I was able to successfully get DCS World to run (albeit horribly) on a Dell Poweredge 2950 using ESXi and hosting a Windows 2008 R2 VM for my dedicated server. The trick is to enable Video hardware acceleration and bump up the video ram in the VM Settings. This may be slightly different for VM Fusion or VMWare Player but the general idea is the same. Note: It probably will not run very well. -MajkStone [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
