JaNk0 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Hello Everyone I've recently found my old 4-button - CH product - F16 Fighterstick with gameport. Since I'm studying engineering ( second year computer science) and long living dream to modifying my joystick I thought I make a project out of it, where I convert my old gameport stick to an USB-stick by changing/adding new internal components. The goal is to make it look like a genuine USB-CH product "Fighterstick". Since I barely have any experience in modifying joysticks, I will during this project learn by doing and document everything in pictures so that I can show the progress. So for the first step I'll be needing your help guys since I'm having problems finding quality parts. Step 1. I would like to ask if there is anyone out there that knows a good site where I can purchase the following things: – 3x traditional push buttons – 3x 4-way hat switches – 1x 8-way POV hat switch – 1x mode switch button To connect all of the buttons and the the three axis I'll be needing a custom or ready-made microcontroller, but that will be Step 2. Thank you in advance :smilewink: 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

tjhowse Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 You might want to keep an eye on this project of mine: http://www.openjoystick.com You can probably crib a lot from my (open source) code and hardware design.
JaNk0 Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 @tjhowse Interesting project you have going on there. Are you planning to create your own buttons(internal components as well) or are buying them somewhere? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
tjhowse Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Buttons are going to be a combination of SPDT tactile microswitches and 4/5-way hat switches. All the parts are listed here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aq6iGQSKjhLXdHlMeURranFkTHZMZ0JFeDlSUEJDSnc#gid=0

JaNk0 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Hi guys I haven't abandoned this project, just a lot to study atm. Even though, I have been searching for a 8-way hat switch and I can say that they seem to be custom made by eg. Thrustmaster since it's hard to find them anywhere. I was thinking of a workaround. Is it possible to just add a 4-way hat switch and program it to function as a 8-way hat switch? In theory it seems as it might work but does anyone have any experience with this? Kind regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
pitdesigner Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 You could scavenge one from a cheap stick, thats what ive done in the past.
JaNk0 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Said and done! Just purchased one used F-16 Combat stick which has two hat switches and a used CH Products Flightstick Pro which has one 8-way hat swtich! I'll will be looking out for one more 8-way swtich and one 4-way hat with push button [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
