mr.john_doe Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Hello, I'm new at flying and think about a facetracker. I also play Arma for which this is also a good adition. But I'm a little scared about the price for the track ir here. The Version five costs 150 Euro, the four about 100 Euros. So I think about building the system for myself with freetrack. But my computer is at its limit when flying. Can you recommend one version over the other? Are there benefits of the fiver version over the version four which are worth 50 Euros? Or does someone has good experiences with freetrack? Thanks alot
secret1962 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Track IR has a more stable view and you can use it without even modifying curves etc. Freetrack requires a little more time to setup. I actually have freetrack and I am very happy with it (using LEDs from old tv remotes ahah :P). It has no impact on performance, at least for me.
agrasyuk Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Head tracking is awesome and many would say must have. I have the v4 , works fine, not researched if 5 is so much of an upgrade . didn't try free track. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
Namco51 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I wasted a lot of time and money on freetrack. My freetrack setup was laggy, the hat/LEDs were messy to deal with because of the battery pack and the fact that after a couple hours the LEDs would dim and I would have to re-adjust the gain settings in Freetrack, and I could never quite get the settings in Freetrack to where it felt natural. With TrackIR, it is 3 times smoother, has much less delay betweeen the time I move my head and when the camera reacts (.1 seconds instead of .75 seconds with freetrack), and the default TrackIR settings were almost perfect (I just had to increase the pitch speed to help me see the radios better). Sure it is pricey but will be cheaper if you spend so much time trying to get freetrack to work for you and it doesn't work out.
Aries Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I use FacetrackNoIR, PS3Eye and TrackClipPro and it's a miracle... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining...
