I want to cap my FPS at 40 FPS. The up and down frame rate from 60 to 42 is making a mess of my game and causing stuttering. I tried using Bandicam program to reduce my frame and keep it even, but for some reason Bandicam seems to also effect my Track IR? Not sure why it does that and if anyone knows a way to stop it doing it I'm all ears. Hopefully there is another not to complicated way in the game to do it?

Edit: Sorted things out a bit.

  1. Create a text file in the folder C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS\Config
  2. Rename itto: autoexec.cfg
  3. Paste the following line into the file and save it, it will give you an fps cap of 30.
    options.graphics.maxfps = 30

Oh My. And how do I do that? I have no idea about these things. Also, how would that effect my game during upgrades?

My Windows is not in English so bear with me :)

The file is still a txt.file.

I think you have "hide file extensions for known file types" enabled.

In the file manager, press F10 and choose "Tools > folder options".

Go the the middle tab (view?) and uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types".

Then rename the file again.

Not at all sure what you mean here. However, I do have "Show hidden files, folders, and drives." Selected in the folder options of control panel. I placed the text file exactly where you said to put it as in the last pic. Thanks!!

It should be a checkbox just below that option.

Yes, I have always had that enabled to show hidden files. The text file I created is not hidden though, it is in the pick I uploaded.

Dudester22,

In windows, filenames have two sections:

THe "name" of the file. For example: MyDocument

The "type" of the file. This comes after a period sign. A text file would be like this: MyDocument.txt

A jpeg image would be like: MyImage.jpg

Simple so far: the text after the period tells your computer what type of file it is.

However, as standard, Windows actually hides the things after the period.

So when you created autoexec.cfg, you ACTUALLY created autoexec.cfg.txt

This does not work because it's a txt - a text file, not a config file.

This is because windows, as standard, hides the part after the period from you. In your screen, you can see that it says the file is a text document - this is because the file is actually having .txt in the end.

You can change this through making windows show the file "ending".

In the file explorer, select "view". You may have to press Alt first. (Sorry, I don't have an english version of windows available right now.) Might be called "view options". Switch tab in the optins screen youll find and you'll get a list with a lot of tickboxes, one of them is "hide file name extensions for known file types". Untick it.

Then go back to your file, and rename it such that it no longer has a txt.

But there should be a checkbox below the radio buttons for hidden files.

Uncheck that one.

This is not about hidden files, this is about file name endings. Completely different thing - "hidden" files are to prevent you from deleting important system files and such things.

I considered creating the file, but thought it was better for him to learn how to do it himself. Oh well.
