For those that a few days ago discussed the concrete runway addons with me, I have made a trial at it and its now ready.

 

If anyone is interested just provide the means for uploading it. The Zip pakage is only 2.14 MB out of the original size of 6.53MB in textures. Thats because these require to be installed in temptextures folder and not in the CDDS, so I reduced color depth to 8 Bit (without loss of quality). Take note of this before you install.

 

For those who are seeing this for the first time, my aim was to provide LOMAC a western look to the runways without using tarmac in them. Its all in concrete. I have made the textures in high detail so that you dont have to swich AA on to see them in full glory. I have included concrete pattern, and tire marks to give sense of detail and speed. I have made very simple landind markings, because the way runways in LOMAC are textured dont allow anything too extravagant unfortunatly, so the final layout is somewhat generic.

About the only thing that looks out of place is that they no longer have the cracks with grass growing up through them. Western airfields look pretty much like what you've got...nice and clean. :D

like GA said....there is something not right here. I think maybe the resolution or something, but to me it looks like textures from a game thats about 10 years old.

Nice work!

 

I have flown in and out of a Russian Air Force base and the color looks too tan and should be more white... like the color Eagle Dynamics uses.

LOL I think there are several ways I can improve them but I thought resolution was not one of them. I edited it to the pixel.

 

For example I think the transition to the darker and dirtier section of the runway it too abrupt. I also think I can make the tire marks better.

 

Curiously enough, some of the remarks made, come from the fact you guys are used to soviet like runways. Puting concrete runways seems out of place since the last game you played with runways like these was in western scenarios 10 years ago. ;)

 

As for the resolution, mine have nothing less than ED's or the western MOD, the thing the might be playing tricks on your eyes is the monothony of the concrete patterns. If you look closely on your current textures you will see that they look equaly blurry, but they are more colorfull, since they are alot more FOD friendly :D

 

Actualy I have used 512x512 textures on the taxyiways instead of ED's standard 256x256. With mine you dont even have to use AA even if I consider them to have alot more room to improve.

Hey pilotasso, nice work. I think the edges are a little too clean. I dont know if it is possible but maybe add some dirt or grass to the edges of the taxi-ways/parkingareas to break up the distingtive straight line between concrete and grass. Also maybe tone down the "noise" a bit so that the pixels dont stand out so much and/or increase the resolution.
