Antorian Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 so an update. the crashing has stopped. The magic bullet? Running DCS as admin. to set this up permanently, right click on the DCS icon and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab and check the box "Run as Administrator." Ever since doing this there has not been one crash. Hope this helps! Windows 10 Intel Core i5 4670k CPU 3.4 GHz 16GB RAM MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog TrackIR 4
ED Team c0ff Posted June 6, 2013 ED Team Posted June 6, 2013 Most probably DCS had no or only partial access rights to C:\Users\<USER>\Saved Games\DCS\ folder. Starting DCS as an admin is a nuclear-bomb-like solution - it works but is kinda overkill. Dmitry S. Antorian Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) I think UAC has caused more program problems then anything in my experience. I've had so many games that wouldn't work unless I ran in admin mode. Antorian Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 (edited) Alright. Update. Crashes seem to only happen with P-15D module now. I uninstalled the module and reinstalled it and it still happens within 10 minutes of using the module. Would I be right in assuming the next step is uninstall and reinstalling the whole DCS game? If this is the case how do I save my joystick setting and my duel screen settings? Wolf Rider Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Installing to the default (for any game) seems to be the common denominator... Windows (From Vista onward) introduced a file protection system thingy for its C:\ Program File folder, which causes a fair amount of grief, as most are finding out. Create a new Folder to install to, such as for example C:\ My Games and redirect the game installation path to that. (plus TIR and other associated with the game) or Install a separate hard drive and use that to install to The default install path can still be used, but, just change the drive letter that game wants to install to. For example change C:\ Program Files to E:\ Program Files, if E is the letter of the drive (plus TIR and other associated with the game) You can run the shortcut to run as administrator, but the protection is already set up, or you can set the game root folder user permissions to full control... but all associated with particular game, such as TrackIR, etc also need to have the same done. I'm going to try to do a complete reinstall of DCS. I hope this fixes all the issues I've been having since I've only seen this happen with P-51D. I've tried to view crash logs but there was a big once recently and there was no DCS crash log nor a crash log in the event viewer. basically. I will be flying for about 5 minutes and then the screen blanks due to a loss in signal indicated by my monitor, and the sound clips loudly in repeat. I have no options but the restart. This happens after all files in DCS have full permissions and I have the program running in admin mode. Antorian Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) Ok so I uninstalled and reinstalled DSC world and P-51D. so far it looks like this fixed everything. I was able to fly the P-51D for about 9 minutes and I didn't have a crash (crashes usually happened within 5-7 minutes). I'm so glad to have this all working again. Antorian Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Alright, hopefully this will be a final update. So I had updated my computer with a new Motherboard and CPU. Since the build everything was working great. Then out of no where the old sound hang, system crash, screens go blank thing happened. I was surprised cause I thought this could be a driver or PSU problem. Before I went to buy new components, I decided to run some thermal tests. My video card seemed to be running hot. TJ Max of the GPU was 104 degrees Celsius and it was running at 99 degrees Celsius. This seemed to warm so I popped open the case and wouldn't you know. Two years of dust was built up on the heat sink and fan. I blew it out, put it back in the computer, and ran another thermal test. Turns out that knocked the temp down 10 degrees Celsius. Moral of the story:smartass:: keep on top of dusting your shit! That is all. Windows 10 Intel Core i5 4670k CPU 3.4 GHz 16GB RAM MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog TrackIR 4
