Dudester22 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Not sure what the problem is here, I just created a fast mission as opposed to instant action and I am not able to lock on to any targets. In fast mission when I slew over the targets it automatically snaps to the target and I am able to fire, but now when I try to do this it doesn't snap to the target and I am not able to fire weapons. I have enabled Master arm, Gun pac, laser arm and TGP on. The other question I have is how do you switch night vision on?
Evil.Bonsai Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Talking about several different tasks here. First off, WHAT are you trying to pickle? GBU-12, AGM-65D, CBU-105? The only way the TGP can 'lock' a target is when you set it to point mode, as opposed to area. Might want to review the flight manual, starting at page 325. And, as always, a trackfile or it didn't' happen :) Seriously, provide the trackfile and other forum users can easily tell you what is going on.

I'm also not the best person to diagnose but I wanted to try to clarify some things. What is it that needs to lock on? When I think of things "snapping" to a target I can't think of a single thing in A-10C that would actually snap to a target. However, the AGM-65 will "lock on" (white cross hairs close) when it has a good recognition of something that is a target. Is this what you are referring to? Also, is this on every Fast Mission or just on one? If you generate a different one does the problem persist? I've had issues with my AGM-65s not locking until near or beyond minimum range. I've never gotten a Mav lock beyond probably 4 miles at the most and normally they lock much nearer than that no matter what my altitude or whether or not I'm flying directly at the target. I've even had some passes where it wouldn't lock at all. I'm assuming that the main reason for not getting a lock would be that the Mav seeker doesn't see enough contrast to recognize the target but I'm not sure. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I am trying to pickle trucks or anything else apart from planes using mavs. I know I could destroy trucks with cannon fire, but like I said I am just trying to work out what is what here. I have read the manual and as far as I know I was doing everything right. What I was doing worked in instant action, but it doesn't work in create fast mission. Maybe it would be helpful if someone told me how to get into point mode, I must only be a button press away from getting into this mode because everything else is setup like in instant action? Dudester22 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I have updated 2 pictures to show you what is happening because no where in the manual can I see what I am doing wrong. Hopefully, someone will see a simple mistake I am making when looking at these 2 pics I uploaded. One pic shows me in TGP mode on the right MFCD with the camera on, but when I switch this mode to Mav the camera switches off. I guess what I am asking is how you switch on the camera when using Mavs? Edited June 4, 2013 by Dudester22

I guess what I am asking is how you switch on the camera when using Mavs? Your EO seeker head may be off on your Mavericks. When you switch to MAV mode from TGP the TGP view goes away and you will see what the seeker on the MAV sees. If it is turned off you will see the black screen. You can turn it on in the Mav screen or by going into MSL on your DSMS page and turning it on. It takes 3 minutes to "warm up" and can shut off on it's own (time out) if it is on for too long. I'm going to look at your pictures to verify but that may be what is going on. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Harzach Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Your Mavs aren't turned on. No offense, but you really should do (or re-do) the weapons tutorials and maybe read the manual a little more closely.

When your MAV screen comes up (the black screen on right MFCD) hit OSB-6 where it says EO Off. Alternatively you can hit OSB-2 on the left MFCD to go into the MSL page. I only do that if I have the extra time and am in my DSMS anyway. But yeah, just hit OSB-6 on the right screen, wait 3 minutes, you'll see the camera turn on and you'll be good to go. After you hit it the 3 minutes will be on a timer in the lower right corner of that screen so you can keep an eye on it and start finding targets with your eyeball or TGP while it warms up. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

311Gryphon Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I am going to go read the manual instead of the quick start and tutorials, but that worked so thanks for your time. No problem, glad I could help. Just remember that the EO will time out after a bit (something like 12 minutes) so if you aren't going to be firing any Mavericks for a while you can turn it off then turn it back on when you're about 3 minutes from using them. Good luck with the rest of it! http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Darkwolf187 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Just goes to show a picture's worth a thousand words :) Does the EO actually time out? I've been flying around for half an hour and they've still worked, although there was a warning on the MFCD about checking EO time.

They do not time out or degrade, as that isn't modeled. the REAL mav's will timeout, though and degrade as they start to warm up and on-board batteries start to drain (I think?) In practice, you should only activate them just before you start using them, but in the sim it doesn't matter.

I've been flying around for half an hour and they've still worked, although there was a warning on the MFCD about checking EO time. Mine have actually shut off before and I had to turn them back on. Which confused me because I asked my friend about it and he said his gets the warning but won't actually shut off. My MAV screen went black (looked exactly the same as when you switch to MAV after a cold start and haven't turned the EO on). I hit OSB-6 to turn them on and waited the three minutes and it came back on. I'm not sure if something else was going on but from everything I could see the EO had timed out. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
