As the title states I have TIR 5, WARTHOG hotas and Saitek combat rudder pedals.

Iam having trouble getting the TIR to a happy setting especially with regards to zooming in and out in the cockpit.

I've watched a lot of tutorial videos on youtube and I love the way that the pilots of these tutorial videos seem to be able to effortlessly zoom in and out to exactly where they want. How do I set up my system to replicate this ?

At the moment because I cant find a happy setting for the TIR I have the zoom disabled and have the MIC switch on the WARTHOG set up to zoom in and out and pause and center the TIR. Seems a bit of a waste for the MIC switch so need a better more natural solution.

So Iam appealing to all you "pro pilots" :) out there to help me find a more efficient, natural and capable setup.

Also would appreciate any advice with regards to axis settings in DCS for the WARTHOG and rudder pedals to make the A10 easier to fly.

So please if you have the time make a post or link a profile for the TIR or/and WARTHOG.

Many thanks from a A10 pilot wannabe :)

Hi!

2 options in my opinion:

1) (I use this one): Setup a modifier for the paddle lever on your WH (modifier is like SHIFT/ALT/CONTROL) and set the ZOOM IN SLOW/ZOOM OUT SLOW to the PADDLE+DMS UP/DOWN (or any other, whichever you want). If you need me to clarify this more let me know :)

2): In your options, you have absolute forward/backward movement (see axis commands in the options) set to a TrackIR axis (can't remember which one). Set that axis to zoom view. That way you move your head forward, you zoom in.

Hope this helps,

This is my exact setup so I'll attempt to help (not very well though I assure you) because.....

....I'm nothing like a pro pilot! I'm about as far as it gets from a pro even in this game.

I'm assuming you mean the zoom in and out by leaning with the TIR. Mine doesn't really zoom much but that may be because I never messed with the curves of TIR. I use the in game zoom. Sometimes it is jittery probably because it conflicts a little with the TIR view control but I'm not sure.

You are absolutely correct, it is a bit of a waste. I personally use the friction wheel on the WH throttle quadrant for my zoom. I just set the axis to zoom and that was it. The middle is no zoom, back is zoom out, forward is zoom in. That axis isn't used at all so it was easy to set up.

Also would appreciate any advice with regards to axis settings in DCS for the WARTHOG and rudder pedals to make the A10 easier to fly.

Here I have no advice because all of my stuff was almost plug and play for the most part. All I did was set the friction wheel as stated before, set Mic Switch Up to my Ventrillo PTT button, change the trim tab on the stick to what it was intended to be (trim), then changed my hot keys in TIR to use the Insert, Delete, Home, and End keys since I no longer need them in game (that I know of).

Many thanks from a A10 pilot wannabe :)

You're welcome from another A-10C pilot wannabe. But in closing you might try other advice first because while my stuff seems to work pretty well without much work other people here have a lot of experience getting things to work RIGHT. Good luck.

Yeah that sounds like that would be real helpful would I need to setup a complete new profile for the WARTHOG. If not could you explain how you do it within the DCS setup options.

thanks

I think I can help you with this. open the sim and go to options/controller. Engage any button on your joystick and this should put you in the 'joystick' column. Scroll to the very bottom and look for zoom in/zoom out. Highlight one and click 'add'. Assign the button you want and click 'ok'. Do the same for the other function. Remember to save the changes!

On my Thrustmaster I have assigned all DMS functions to the modifier as I want the zoom feature 'on top' and quickly accessed. This is really a personal preference.

Good luck!

No new profile is necessary.

Do the following:

In the the DCS options (in A-10C Sim obviously):

-) Click the button "modifiers"

-) Under "modifiers" click "ADD"

-) Select correct device (Joystick - HOTAS Warthog for my example)

-) Push the button which you want to be the modifier (paddle on the stick in my example). The button number should appear twice. In the bottom box you can input a name if you want to.

-) Press OK twice

-) Now go to the control you wish to assign (zoom in in example)

-) Left click once in the correct row (zoom in slow) and colomn (joystick - hotas warthog)

-) click ADD

-) Now press and hold the paddle and DMS up. You should see the button number appear as well as the added modifier which you assigned earlier.

-) Press OK

That's it! Hope this helps :)

Can you recommend a good FOV setting Iam finding the default just a little too close to the front of the cockpit. I did try that natural neck mod but found that the view was too far back and didn't show enough of the HUD.

How would I go about moving the default FOV a little further back and make it permanent

I would also like to know this, but I wish the devs would do something about these views. I find it really annoying sat this close up to the front panel using trackir. I don't want to disable my zoom on trackir, I just want to be able to move a little further back without screwing up all the other views. I also hate the fact I cannot look back at the engines or down at the landing gear. Surely a pilot can see these things. These things need fixing, it was something I noticed straight away when purchasing this Sim.

Use the entries in PeterP's neck mod. You'll have to play with the numbers.
