Dave317 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I'm just about to upgrade my ram. For dcs is it worth getting 16gb or is 8 enough? will I notice any difference with 16?
159th_Falcon Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Depends, but usually 8 should be just fine. But if you are using some very high resolution, or using custom textures whit larger file sizes then more might pay off. Also depends a bit on how future proof ya wanna be. Devrim Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 It depends your budget of course. But, I think 8 GB is OK for DCS. For extra requirements (Auto-CAD, 3D or other graphics works in hi-res etc.) you might think about 16 GB. Boberro Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 8 GB is far too large... I am using 8 GB and it barely can eat 4 GB (as far I noticed). Game must be optimized because it uses very low % power of current PC generations. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... cichlidfan Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 IMHO, if your wallet can spare the extra cash without sacrificing elsewhere and with an eye to the future, then get the extra 8GB. Dave317 Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) Thanks, I think I'll stick with 8 for the moment. I will still have 2 spare slots on my m/b incase I need them in the future. My next question is will 2133 mhz make any difference over 1600 mhz? Edited June 17, 2013 by Dave317
EtherealN Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Only in some very operation-intensive scientific applications. For games, the tests I have seen indicate a 1 to 2 percent performance boost - within the margins of error. xracer Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 You could also opt to buy a 8 gb set which is faster/better for the same money as a slower 16 gb set. Will pay off if you later are gonna overclock. Although in DCS ive run my mem from 1000 to 1600 MHz and there is absolutely no performance difference fps wise. Could be a bottleneck somewhere which i havent found out. 8 gb is far and away more than enough for DCS though for regular missions/campagins. It's not, DCS already used 4GB on my system, same for Planetside 2, though I've to say that I run some monitoring softwares in the background but it's not a big deal. Encoding videos can use up to 8GB of RAM as well but it depends the software you're using.
