POLARIS1 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Hi all, Been here for a short few days, been flying multiplayer jets for a few years but on another platform. On search for a reputable squadron in which to "grow up" I read through the different threads for hours until I decided to approach the 74th. I marveled the approach of excellence and dedication with beers on the side. Looked for Tyger and found his departure thread. I come from a tight community and my FB tag name still carries my squad from another game and departures are always a loss. Even for those who move along. So...I'm in search for a reputable squadron, with tradition, excellence, a lot of patience for the noobiest noob that I am and.. beer on the side. Polaris

aaron886 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 You'll probably get a lot of solicitations rather than impartial advice. (No offense implied, MTFDarkEagle.) I recommend you hang out with (and spend some time flying with) individuals from a squadron before joining it. There's a few good options out there!
Devilman Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 there are lots of different squadrons out there the main thing for anybody is to find one that suits you. if your interest is in carrier ops (SU-33 and future carrier based aircraft), rotary wings (KA-50 / UH-1H) and mud moving (A-10c /SU-25/t) then s77th could be for you. it also helps to answer a few questions Where you are from ? how old are you ? What time do you fly ? What sims do you fly ? what hotas do you use ? do you have Track IR with 6DOF ? do you have any special dietary requirements? WildBillKelsoe Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I recommend DCS Mercenaries. We play missions with virtual money pay. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Sharpe_95 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 My suggestion: Add the following details to your post: I fly: X airframes I fly during: These times I speak: These languages I am: X year's old For my part, if you are looking for a UK based VFS then you really cant go far wrong with Shrek Sqn. Which is just as well as I think they are now the only UK time zone English speaking VFS out there atm - well, its an approximation of English anyway ;). Contact WC: Ogreman or Tin Tin or Big Newey. Or just visit their website and go on their TS (they are very friendly to new people regardless of flight skills/time in sim). -Sharpe
POLARIS1 Posted July 27, 2013 Author Posted July 27, 2013 Thank you all for your good advices. MTFDarkEagle for the proposal, aaron886, After being a part of a virtual squad for so long (in another platform) it's kind of hard to find myself flying solo. Some is about learning to fly but it's mostly about the comradery. Devilman, sorry but I can't divulge anything since my dietary requirements are top secret...Shshshsh ;) Thanks also to WildBillKelsoe and Sharpe_95 (with the great advice!). Enjoy the weekend :) Polaris
