Oh no!! The rest are all 2 seater versions!!!

I guess that we will never get to fly an AH-64D in LO... :(

No, they'll have changed the name by then ;)

AH-64D, probably not.

AH-64A is just about possible. Two-seaters aren't quite as impossible as everyone makes out . . . . . if you could sell the development on it's own (i.e. an Apache addon), then I personally think it would be doable.

However . . . . . as long as the main (and most reliable, up-front) funding is coming from Russia, it's unlikely that that will be the case. Just a fact, unfortunately.

The first item for comparison should be detection, identification and lock range of night-vision sensors - which seems to be totally absent from the comparison.

My question is: How does one guy operate all those systems, while at the same time staying close enough to ground cover to keep him from getting killed...without crashing and getting killed anyway? ;)

The Ka-50's systems should provide lots of funky autopilot modes that make life easier for the pilot - like automatically aligning the helicopter with a target that the pilot acquires with his HMD. At least that's what I've read some time ago; however I have no clue to what degree these modes are really integrated with the real helicopter and not just development proposals that turned into an official featurelist somehow... ;)

I am wondering how much the development requirements for the Ka-50 (and Mi-28) were incorporating NOE and popup attack strategies, which obviously make it harder to concentrate both on flying and attacking for a single pilot. I think the Russian army was sticking much longer to a doctrine that used helicopters (mainly the Mi-24) for high-speed dive attacks, not unlike what the Ah-56 Cheyenne should have been. In that role, a second crew member wouldn't be as necessary.

Will be interesting to see how this will turn out. I still remember various Longbow II missions where I crashed into some hill on my way back (usually after an extremely successful mission) because I lost concentration for just a second ;)

Did someone mention the glorious Longbow 2 game with its 3 flyable helicopters, splendid avionics modelling and great multiplayer features like 2-clients-in-1-chopper?

Did I ever mention I wished we had evolution instead of reinventing in this genre?

You forgot the dynamic campaign which, although limited in scope compared to similar attempts like Falcon4, Rowan's BoB or EECH, had the unique feature of working fine right out of the box without requiring the developers to go bankrupt first and have the community fix it a few years later... :p

The Ka-50 looks somewhat like an evil version of the Airwolf. That's what communists fly, and it has lasers to defeat the Airwolf, and superb homing missiles, and the pilot wears an evil painted helmet, and talks like a drunk. :p

YES! I will NEVER fly with Tom Cruise. The guy's a whacko!!!!!! :D

Yes, he enjoys yolleyball with nude sweaty men, and in the showers he takes their soap and throws it on the ground...

Don't fly with him, even if you're having a big moustache and wear gimp suits.

Wasn’t Jester the instructor that nailed his ass in Top Gun?

Or was it Tom Cruise scoring a kill with prohibition to go under minimum/safe altitude? ;)
