Sciacud Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi all, A few days ago, I downloaded DCS World via Steam and started to play with Su25t. Then I purchased and intsalled A-10c Warthog. Now I've this big, big problem: -1) I launch DCSW -2) I choose A-10c Warthog -3) Instant Action -4) Georgia Spring (or whatever else, even a mission created by me with mission editor) -5) After one-two minutes DCS crashes: black screen on my monitor. Sometimes I hear the in game sound, sometimes no sounds at all. -6) nothing else to do. I have to shut down my pc by pressing the power button. The same thing every time I play DCS. My pc never crashed before with my other games (BF3, Battfld.BadC2, Arma 2, iRacing, etc.). -I've rolled back the video driver to the 280.28 (very stable) (I had 306 drivers before). -I've deleted Steam DCS, downloaded DCSW + A-10c original files from the official DCS website and installed them from scracth. -I've also installed DirectX (but I got an error message: founded a latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable) Nothing to do!!! I don't know what I have to do now. ENO Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Back up your saved games DCS folder (rename it) and restart the game. It'll rebuild your saved games folder... maybe that'll help get you back on your feet again. Then you can try to restore things one at a time. Sciacud Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 thank you for your answer, but unfortunately the tip did not help. My pc has crashed again (black screen after 3-4 minutes of game; no audio except for an electrical noise ("brrrzzzzz"). Ctrl+alt+del didn't work, so I have to press the power button to shut down the pc. ENO Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) I would do a repair and possibly a reinstall- how did you update? What version of windows? I saw 64 bit 6.1 in one of your logs... Is that vista 64 by chance? There's another crash thread about putting graphics settings on medium (something like that) that causes a crash. I'll find it and link to it if that's a possibility. Sciacud Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Thank you guys for all your answers. I appreceate it very much. @ENO: I've Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I don't think it depend on in game video settings, because I've got this issue in any settings I choose (low, medium, high), but... @ Mastiff: I'll try to install 314 Nvidia drivers and then I will tell you. Unfortunatelly my english is bad, so I can't speak with you on TS, so sry :-( @SkateZilla: I've monitored the vga temperatures (with HWmonitor) and they seemed normal (about 64° C); I don't know about voltages, but I will check them again and I will post here. I have to tell you this: yesterday night I installed another game (War Thunder) and I've got again black screen!!! What could this issue be? VGA is broken? PSU is gone? I'm very worried. ENO Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 well I might run some memory testing- may be time to start checking individual components- CPU and RAM to start. Perhaps someone could recommend some good programs to test memory and CPU? Maybe graphics as well... "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Sciacud Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) I've checked the RAM with Memtest: zero errors; then I downloaded "OCCT", a free software to testing the GPU. I've got the crash after 50 seconds!! Rocky49 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 My computer was acting exactly as yours is, black screens and had to reboot, sounds of game still running on the black screen. Took my computer to the store that I had built at. They found under stress testing that the video card, a GTX 295 x 2, was the issue. I am getting it back latter today. Sciacud Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) So guys, it seems I solved, maybe! I uninstalled previous 280 nvidia driver (outdated!) and installed 306.23, making the "clean install". And.... it works!! No more chrashes, no more black screen. With "OCCT" free software I did a strees test of the VGA for 1 hour = zero errors. I hope this will go on, without crashes. I want to thank all you guys for the help. Thank you very much. See you. SkateZilla Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 If you system randomly reboots, it's a hardware fault. (or your system isnt set to display Blue Screens), in which case I can almost 80% guarantee the BlueScreen is a Display Driver Fault. if you sit on your desktop and it goes black and comes back, its the Display Driver Crashing and windows Recovering the display driver stack without having to lock the kernel and throwing a blue screen at you. If your playing and you go black screen w/ a buzz or game audio... that's your GPU Shutting off. either because it's defective, or because it engaged over temp protection.
