I notice that I can not seem to map a range of keyboard commands to HOTAS buttons at the moment, the ones you can not map appear lighter than those you can on the keyboard assignment mapping table (night vision goggles for example).

Is this just a reflection of the beta state of the MI-8 at the moment, or do I have an issue with my keyboard and joystick lua files?

Is anyone else having this issue? I couldn't find any posts about it?

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks for any advice.

Enclosed screenshot shows the problem I am having.

As you can see, for the lighter shaded areas (like NVG in this instance) I can not select the corresponding box for the controller I want to map the function to - only the whole line.

This only occurs for the lighter shaded boxes, the darker ones I can map as normal.

Select any other joystick command field, no matter if assigned or not, and the press "delete category".

That will add all those commands to the corresponding joystick.lua and make ALL fields in that column available.

This way you have to reassign all joystick commands though.

Note: only the currently displayed category (e.g. View, View Cockpit, ...) will be affected by "delete category".

That way you can, to some degree, control what joystick commands will be deleted in the process.

Or you can manually find the needed commands in the keyboard.lua and add them to the joystick.lua.

All these files are found in the user\saved games\ dcs\config\input directory.

Thanks MadCat,

Looks like I'll have to go down the path you have suggested. I was hoping there would have been a method which didn't require me re-mapping my whole controller/s

I've been waiting and wondering about this too. Remapping entire catagories seems a bit much to have to do for some catagories at least. Not so bad in those with few joystick assignments.

If your screen looks like the screen shot from Phantom453 then you should delete the Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\mi-8mt folder. This will reset all of your controls to default and restore the missing commands.

This is my installation and I have not touched it other than to map my axis controls.

I forgot earlier to remind people that "Clearing a Category" will only wipe out any joystick assignments and not touch the keyboard bindings. But the upside is that you will now be able to assign joystick buttons to all the lines in the category including the ones you were locked out of.

Hi cichlidfan,

I tried what you suggested above but it didn't seem to work for me. The enclose screenshot shows the default Mi8 key binding screen for me. As you can see, certain ones still cannot be assigned - NVG and the open close windows/ doors in this instance. There is currently no Mi-8mt folder in my Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\ folder. Hence this must be the default. It is also the latest one as the ne command "B" release bomb is there and I haven't changed anything.

Anyone - any ideas??

you need to authorize that folder to share as admin:joystick:

If you completly miss the mi-8mt folder something went wrong. rename the whole .../saved Games/DCS Folder to DCS_old or something and restart the Game..what happens then?!

My Specs:

I don`t care..it is a Computer..a black one..

Can you expand a bit on this please Mastiff??

if you have DCS installed in a 64 bit OS, you need to allow as admin for those exe's, and folders that the game is writing back and forth from those folders and in C:\programfiles\ or programfilesx(x86) folder you need to right click and go properties/advanced and allow as admin or change the share attributes.

I received the following additional bid of guidance from cichlidfan, which, with the directions above, solved this problem for me.

"Before I assign any controls in DCS, I ALWAYS clear all buttons and axis settings, using the Clear Category button. Note that even if your category is set to all, that will not clear your axis settings so you will have to do it again for each axis column as well."

Help from cichlidfan and others above is greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem with a-10c. Can NOT get the taxi light switch command to work. I does NOT work in the cockpit either.

Hi Machinegun,

Do you mean that you can't map the landing light/ taxi light switch to a controller, or do you mean it doesn't switch when you click on it with the mouse in the cockpit?
