droz Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I use the TH Warthog HOTAS. I have Throttle set for the right quadrant, and prop for the left quadrant. Managing heat in the 'stang can be tricky in a dogfight. I've found the number 1 factor in heat management is speed. Keep your speed up to keep the air flowing into the ram scoop for the radiator. In combat, I will typically set an RPM, to around 2700, and adjust throttle as needed. Sometimes, I will constantly adjust both to manage heat and speed in a slower dogfight situation, and it tends to work. Sometimes I go over the green, but rarely over the red. What are your techniques? Windows 7 64bit AMD FX 8350 4.0GHZ 16BG Ram EVGA Geforce 760 GTX 2GB
gavagai Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I open the radiator manually and run at full military power, 3000rpm. The quicker I can kill the bandit the better. You can go over the red a bit without breaking the engine. Trouble begins when the temp gauged approaches the horizontal. Personally, like Gav said, my first rule is to open the coolant doors full. I generally go full RPM in combat with minor variations. The only time I ever encounter heat issues anymore is during slow climbing maneuvers where I didn't manage my energy correctly. If you keep your airspeed up you can go full military power for quite a long time with no problems. xcom Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 In my opinion, keep the radiators on auto, keep speed at around 250mph and up. if your speed starts to go under 250mph, start lowering throttle and rpm a bit and gain speed back. fastfreddie Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Is there anything I have to manage at high altitude like the carbs? I noticed they were at like -50 or somewhere close at 30k so does p-51 model water freezing in fuel lines at extreme temps.
xcom Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I'm not sure about the water freezing but at high alt you need to change the supercharger, I think above 18k it should kick in if the lever is on auto but between 14-18k you could manually put it up for better performance.
