Elbrus?

Anyone tried the Huey's Elbrus mission with this thing? I just dropped it in and gave it a shot. I looked all through the Mi-17 manual that came with it, but couldn't find a performance chart that told me a ball park max rate of climb...anyway, I used about 100kmh. With only 25% fuel, I couldn't seem to reach the summit like I could with the Huey. In fact, twice, I seemed to run out of control authority in the pitch axis, causing the helo to tumble backwards, and spin down into a dive. I was able to recover, but climbing past about 5000m wasn't an option. Altimeter was set to 670...not sure what standard is.

About 150kph will be the sweet spot for airspeed. I was able to complete this mission once earlier in testing by opening up the Huey mission and editing in the Mi-8...so the scripting didn't work, but everything else was the same. It's a pain, as you have already found out. I will admit that I have not tried it recently.

ISA is 760 mmHg.

Tried this mission today. Climbs easily. Deicing enabled, fuel 30%.

I also recomend other sightseeing missions for huey, like "Zero Dark Thirty" or from campaign, 'en_UN-Pilot_03"

That must be what I forgot...I find icing in DCS to be a little unrealistic. In my experience (flew in Germany for about 5 years), icing rarely happens in the clear, but you can definitely encounter icing in DCS without being in visible moisture.

When I flew this mission with the 8, I didn't turn on anti-icing for the engine since I never went into the clouds, but I remember this being an issue in the Ka-50 while playing its campaign as well.

I'm guessing it doesn't, which is why icing acts the way it does.

  • 9 months later...

I changed this mission too for Mi-8 (60% of fuel, speed 80-140km/h). Climbing was ok and I took a peak of Elbrus without any problem, but on high altitude was very difficult to control and could not twist (like propeller on the tail did not work). Anyone noticed the same thing?

EDIT: Ok with 35% of fuel! Mission completed.
