Hamblue Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 How much different is it flying the KA-50 vs Huey.? I/E flight characteristics. Davis0079 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 night and day... the co-axle rotors counteract each others torque in the Ka-50...the Huey is a traditional helicopter design with a tail rotor to counter the torque of the main rotor blades digging into the air with increased collective next the Huey has no flight computer....the Ka-50 had a flight system that does all the micro inputs for you as you fly...once you get use to the system, you literally just point the airframe the way you want to go, and it does the rest... besides that...ever thing else about them is different also...about the only thing they have in common is that you can buy a simulation of them on the ED website.... It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.
Offlinepilot Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 The Huey is a classic and a 'must have' if you like choppers! It don't take out battalions of tanks from a standoff range, (or at all for that matter) but it (as the MI-8) is a joy to fly! Buy them if the price is still right!
slug88 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I took the Ka-50 out for a spin in multiplayer recently, first time I'd flown it in months. Bagged an enemy UH-1 with Vikhrs on my first sortie. Ka-50 wins :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
atorque Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 The KA has stability systems which make it very easy to fly. The new MI has similar features. The huey was built with the war in mind. They wanted a cheap machine that could be produced in the thousands. I for one prefer machines with no stability augmentation because you can feel what the helicopter is doing. It does however require a steady and sensitive touch which is why you will see the part timers claiming the huey is hard to fly and they prefer the KA. Amarok_73 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 (...) huey is hard to fly and they prefer the KA. I have been flying KA since almost beginning, as well as Huey, I find UH easy to fly in either FM (especially 1.2.5 was good to do "TIE fighter tricks"), but still KA is my choice when it comes to survivability and usefullness on the battlefield. Especially when hunting in packs. In UH, all the pilot have to do is to pick-up, deliver and return in one piece... more or less, so it's natural, that this machine seems to be "underinvested" comparing to KA. Anyway, when it comes to go into the battlefield for adrenaline, i enjoy UH, but if I have to be "agile, mobile, hostile", KA is so far the only choice I can do. Hamblue Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 Thanks I've been learning the Huey over the weekend and can now do the basics but need practice. Was wondering if the KA was as challenging. Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. Samsung 830, 256 gig hard drive, GTX780 Video Card, Warthog Hotas, Razer Mamba mouse. Nate--IRL-- Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 After the Huey it will seem easier initially, however in order to fly it correctly you must understand the Autopilot/stabilisation system. It is a different type of Skill you will need to master. See the post by IvanK in my sig. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
