So I've spent some time getting familiar with the hog. I've spent some time on learning servers, using pre-made waypoints to learn how to accurately use some of the armaments.

I finally start the campaign up again. Again, because when I attempted it after the training tutorials I was promptly shot down while attempting to locate a target...

So my first run back, wheels up, and I'm heading north. Start looking for a target.. And BAM!! Shot down. Forgot counter measures.

Second flight - I get up.. Locate & destroy 3 marked targets! Woohoo! Then WAM!! Wing comes off! I'm like uh WHAT?? No warning, counter measures was set to auto but never went off. BUT WAIT! I believe I managed to collide with an ally. (If I remember correctly, I heard "2 ejecting"). Get to the debrief screen and "You committed fratricide". Awesome.

Third attempt.. Get up, no crazy maneuvers this time. Find the marked targets and proceed to destroy them! Woohoo! Rearmed at Batumi, got back out there and destroyed more targets. When there weren't anymore I landed & quit the mission.

"You committed fratricide!"

WHAT!?!? So I scrolled thru the battle log to see wtf I hit... Come to find out that EVERY KILL was friendly. Turns out those nice green "X's" I thought marked enemy targets actually mark friendlies. So now I've got all these friendly kills... Think I may delete it & start over.. Along with the campaign lol.

I mega ROFL'd... Hahahahaaaaa!!

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The vehicles where the green X's are located are very often the JTAC. You should learn to comm with them and enter the data. If you aren't ready for that yet then note the vehicles are often pointed towards where the enemy can be found.

So I decided I didn't want to have to keep taking my hands off the HOTAS to make radio commands and setup VAC +AutoHotKey. Fired up the campaign and wheels up. JTAC gives me a mission. While eliminating tanks I take a few shots to my left engine, limiting power to 80%. Once the immediate object is completed I decide its best to rearm, refuel and repair.

So I take my sweet time lining up to the runway. Get clearance from ATC to land and make a Slow approach in - throttles split quite a bit to equalize power as I descend. I'm just short of the runway, above the grass and I believe 150ish altitude. I can hear the engines whining as I'm about to touch wheels down when suddenly....

Bam! Explosion! Fire! Smoke! My 'hog splits in two! Another Hog!! My wingman took it upon himself to practice landing ontop of my 'hog. Double decker landing? Hell, I don't know, but got another "You committed fratricide" message... Doh!

Lmao oh well. I am going to reset that log book at some point...

Bahaha! Karma is a bitch!

Flew a quick mission before dinner, tried to get my wingman to take out two tanks as I was out of Mavs. Did he run in? No. Did he do anything? Uhh.. He flew past the target and continued towards the mountains. I F2'd to view him b ause I was wondering why he hadn't attacked. Went back to cockpit view, looped back til I could verify my camera was still on the tank before setting autopilot. Flipped back to view my wingman and what do I see? The guy flying near a mountain, climbing. Then poof! He couldn't climb hard enough and crashed into it!

When a wingie starts heading off to nowhere have you tell him to attack, best thing to do is just get him to rejoin and try again. I had one just flying in circles until I told him to rejoin. Then killed the target myself.

Last night I ran one final mission. All went perfect. It was great. I RTB'd once to rearm and had my wingman do the same. Unfortunately, by the time he finally arrived, I was out of patience & ready to head off on my own. Not to mention, the genius parked with his nose facing the fence. (Is there any way to successfully get your wingman to rearm & head off for a second fly out?).

I took off on my own. Flyin solo - oh yeah! Destroy several more targets - now having assisted Darknight -and- moonbeam, and head back to base. The sun had set, natural lighting conditions were poor, but all was good. I made my approach towards base different then my typical, long, slow glide in. While waiting for the wingman to land I watched his method of landing and thought "hey, that was even smoother than what I've been practicing!" So I copied it. Landed nice and gently, this time being slow enough to be under nose-wheel control half way down the runway. I taxi to parking at the next turn off (my normal is barely slowing down in time for the angled turn off, 2nd from last... Batumi, that is)

So I slowly taxi down to the parking area. Since I'm done with the mission I decide I'll park next to my wingman - nose facing the fence. Slowly I turn, triple checking I'm not going to clip his wing with mine.

And then....

BOOM! Explosions! WTF! No, I didn't hit my wingman. It seems the game spawned in another A-10C, beside me - as I came to a stop. The fuselage was right outside my cockpit as everything went to flames. I'm like "OMFG!" It seriously made me jump lol. I couldn't believe it - after I did so well this mission, I die at the very end? The debrief screen loads up and the pop up screen - "You've been promoted to Captain!" Lol.

Promotions and medals mean very little in this sim. If you score enough points regardless of what else you do you will get promoted and possibly a medal.

What I do to prevent my wingie from crashing into me on landing is, as we approach the airport (maybe 5 miles or so.) I give him the "Anchor here" command. Then I proceed to land and then give him the "Return to base" command

Anchoring him for the landing is a good idea, he did almost crash into me that mission when I RTB'd to rearm. I looked behind me just as I was about to throttle up & pull off when I saw him banking to the south. After watching I'm fly in circles is when I later ordered him to RTB.

I guess I could see some people getting upset were this to happen to them. I find it hilarious tho, but as I've been clocking time in the seat, I'm finding I enjoy it more and more. I just thought I'd share a good laugh - and that there was a part 2 & 3 was just more to add!
