Hello all server admins. I'm trying to get an idea about stability with 1.27. Our server is crashing as much as before and on some days doesn't last for 30 minutes. Is this just our server (S77th Dedicated), or is everyone having similar experiences?

Unloaded servers (low usage, few clients) seem to have less problem but the s77th is probably one of the most utilized servers out there and I'd like to compare notes. We get crashes every 2 - 3 hours dependent on usage.

It really depends on how many clients are in our server however anything more than 15 clients and we see a crash on the 104th dedicated in less than 2 hours.

We have recently taken steps to design missions with no triggers at all to keep it simple however this has not helped and we still see regular crashes everyday sometimes as many as 6+ per day.

AFAIK the Virtual Aero server is still crashing with regularity, so this is not a great sign for DCS stability at this stage being that it has no weapons in it.

Unfortunately it looks like we're going to have to persevere a little longer until these issues can be fixed involving high client number crashes.

Just to add from my position.

I think the VA is the most utilized server out there, for our part it is better but its not fixed.

It really depends we have our mission set to regular restarts and that seems to help. But I'd say 1-2 a day or so

It varies for me. My server could last 3-4 hours, but can also last as little as 1/2 hour. The numbers in the server when it crashes also vary from 6 to over 24. But there is more chance of it crashing once over 20 clients.

I'd like to know what ED recommend that the Network speed should be set at for a Server and what speed should be set for the clients.

I believe ADSL 10240 and LAN is ok for servers.

and ADSL 1024 should be set for clients.

I've also started stripping back the AI aircraft and the Combined Arms from my recent missions, but this doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm beginning to think this is a more generic issue involving the way DCS handles connections and the freeing up of threads associated with those connections when clients connect and disconnect. I posted some perfmon data collections in another post which look very much like a memory leak. Unfortunately ED does not appear to be taking much notice as I've had no constructive reply from them.,

The firehouse missions vary and are more dependent on large numbers of AI but fewer slots filled ranging between about 6-12 during peaks. We're crashing roughly every 3-5 hours though again as mentioned it depends on the circumstances

I could run my stress test mission non stop with hundreds of AI units slugging it out all over Te map- but as soon as we got people in there it dropped. Typically what I see is the server unhooks from the clients if only slightly and gradually the mismatch of information builds up until a crash occurs.

I have been minimizing my use of scripts- though still occasionally will use them with caution. I've stopped using random zone, teleport and all that stuff too since this unhooking happens especially quickly when using these (in MP only).

Very, very frustrating for a server host as well as a mission builder.

You should try to contact Frostie, if he's willing to share his knowledge. 51st server has been the most stable server for a long while, with probably the highest player counts aswell.

I run and maintain a low usage server here in Australia. We manage to get a day or sometimes two between crashes, but having said that, we only have 2 - 6 concurrent players tops that im aware of.

Ive followed some of the 'Server Lore' that's around, but none of it seems to make that much difference. The best thing that I have implemented is an Auto-Hot-Key script that fires up the server after a crash. It dosnt help though when we get a connection drop out to the master browser server. DCS.exe still running, but needs to connect to master servers again.

Yep, I started to use the AutoHotkey script and VB script a while ago, did you base it on mine?

Hollo Pointe at v127 is crashing with 10-16 players (the server is limited to 16), but will run missions for days when the traffic is low/light. All of the Hollo Pointe missions use Load Mission triggers, so that is working well.

Hollo Pointe is set to Connection Speed ADSL 10240. No telling what the Players are using -- it's a diverse crowd.

My Client was still set to LAN since the v127 release but just changed my Client machine to ADSL 2048.

Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
