  1. I am happy to present my second and last product of this winters holidays, the scenario Red Snow, a Russian battalion sized offensive operation against German forces. I call this a scenario, because it actually includes 3 different missions of the same operation, each heavily randomized. http://cid-f33d8b1019e6f4ac.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/RedSnow.zip Alternate: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=64&file=1004 The basic features are: -Large scale scenario of roughly battalion vs. company size forces. Might be quite performance intensive on weaker computers. -Includes 3 different missions of the same scenario, Direct Fire Support, Flank Guard and Rear Area Attack. -A random selection of one of three different enemy defensive setups, each being a unique approach, almost makes this 9 missions total. Additionally there is plenty of randomization for non mission critical units making each try play different. -Includes a multiplayer version of the scenario for 6 players. -Features detailed ground operations including recon units and artillery. Units will often reposition on the battlefield. Defensive tanks will mostly fight from hull down battle positions, making them hard to spot and even harder to kill even for the player. -Radio calls of ground units (copyright @Gunship!) Suggestions, critics and comments are as always welcome. Enjoy :)

  3. After realizing that I can no longer work on Kamov helicopters, because of blackmailing russian traders I decided it's time to move on. Next monday I'm starting my new job for Lufthansa Technik - Sofia as a Flight Controls Teamleader. I'll be working on single aisle airliners namely the Airbus A319/320/321 (with both CFM56-5 and V2500 engines) and Boeing 737 families. But one thing is for sure- I'm gonna miss my beloved Ka-32 a lot. Yesterday was my last day at my old work and I made a last walkaround of the three birds I spent my last 3 years on. So much memories raised up... Unique machines became victims of human stupidity.

  4. How do you imagine such military operation and what role do you assign to helicopter? I suppose Ka-50 is designed for CAS. It means that standard mission for Ka-50 is not going deep into enemy territory, not SEAD and not even ground attack, because there are other aircrafts which can do these missions better. Air space should be cleaned by fighters, long range SAM killed by SEAD aircrafts and ground attacks (like convoys and fortifications) carried by Sturmoviks. Helicopters should be sticking near their own force providing air support. The main advantage of helicopter over ground attack jet is that helicopter can loiter in the area longer and can work with targets which are hard to spot and hard to kill for fast moving jets. The main threat for helicopters are MANPADS and short range SAMs. As other said, if you have been attacked by long range radar SAM, then you are where you are not supposed to be.

  5. If you find yourself tagged by a Radar-Guided SAM in the Helo then you're doing it all wrong - that's why there are Toad-Drivers :gun_sniper: .......back to the drawing board for a refresher on adequate Mission Planning, alternatively a request for transfer to the Quartermaster's office for Supply-Truck drivers' duties :P

  7. Crimean part of map was wiped out to save resources. It was done because other half of map had been reworked: more objects, bigger terrain resolution and etc.

  11. Friend, I think it is better when somebody learn "know-how" before public game. It is very frustrating when you are killed by teammate, many people heard my agression when they did that (:P). In my personal opinion public server is not good place to get to know plane possibilities, and doing first training on teammates (read: checking how missiles are exploading on own people).

  12. .cdds looks like 'compressed .dds' files. The .dds is a 'DirectDrawSurface' file. The compressed version is not directly accessible via plugins to GIMP or Photoshop but would need a command line program form nVidia or ATI. http://developer.nvidia.com/object/texture_tools.html The regular nVidia Photoshop plugin only opens .dds files: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html#downloads Here is the paint.net plugin: http://www.dmashton.co.uk/articles/dds-support-for-paintnet/ GIMP plugin for .dds http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/ Although most 3D programs now can handle .dds directly the 2D programs havent done so 'natively'. You can try this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219744(VS.85).aspx Please keep in mind that the .cdds is a guess on my part because thats the only most sensible file format that is directly going to be used in the game that is compressed and can be handled by both nVidia and ATI GPU's.

  13. I love night missions and the snow storm, and low cloud cover and the fog all at once and a lot of it. As less I can see the more exiting I get, the more challenge the bigger satisfaction... Tuning NVG sensitivity and lights in the cockpit (HUD, ABRIS) is essential, so, set it up before you take off. Uploaded setup screen just in case you're missing some controls.

  14. How about this one? I don't think it needs to be that complicated right? I mean you already have the flight model in BS already right? Not much more work to add this as flyable along w/ your AH-64 release, no? Don't spank me too hard for asking...LOL I'm not a programmer so I don't know the work involved...just wishful thinking. :D thanks, Gunny

  17. Vet sim pilot here as well, when I got this simulation I was 100% satisfied. Maybe there is a new generation of sim expectations floating around on this board (complaints of only 25FPS), but I never expected the trees to be collidable. I tend to hide behind hills and buildings for my missions and never once though of ducking it behind a few Pines. Reality or not. But for a few bucks, there are a handfull of those who want the entire world simulated, regardless of CPU resources, memory limitations and last but not least, software development time and costs. They want the FPS friendly simulation with thousands of solid trees, Line of Sight computation and Coolidability without any performance hit. Seen this for decades. You want collidable trees, but then people will complain about 10 FPS and wandering why they can't place units in forrests. Or not being able to designate targets between two trees because there's an invisible collider box blocking the laser. Or complaining why player helicopters collide with trees but AI doesn't and asking for collision detection for every object in the game to level the playing field. Or the guy colliding through trees he didn't see, because his graphic settings are tuned down. I've seen complaints of people not being able to land on water and trains. I've had the "simulation sickness' before, where you don't want ANYTHING to spoil your feeling of "really being there". But truth be told, you're not there, it's a simulation made for entertainment and curiosity. That's why this industry is so small, to simulate something, you have to simulate it ALL and sacrifice NOTHING. It's an addicitive sickness, and I've found that in order to truly enjoy a piece of affordable, repeat..affordable, software, you have to be willing to let go of the desire to check for every rivet to be in the "right" place, EVERYTHING to work just like in real life. Come on..relax a bit and have some fun for once. God bless the developers for making this available to civilians like us and responding so professionally. P.S. in regards to the "new Engine", I wouldn't wait for anything else anymore, I would enjoy what you have..which is an exceptional peice of software.

  18. My first post here, so greetings to all. Here is my add to the wish list. A dynamic campaign like Falcon 4 with live world and realtime battles, functional either in singleplayer and multiplayer. The abillity to run dedicated servers with such dynamic campaigns in which players could log-on and off and help their sides to advance. The abillity in such online campaigns for the players to form flights and packages choosing their roles and targets and create flight plans in real time. It should rise online experiense in new heights :)
