VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
Stretch replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
Hello, I am playing around with this. If I launch VRK, my resolution in the headset decreases instantly. Everything becomes blurry. I quit VRK, and the resolution increases back to max. Launch VRK, decreases again. Any idea why? -
Revision 4 is out! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1R5GZYMTFJqpa3LROpR-tvZregNXQLLiW I've added a few more aircraft (notably the F-16C), and a handful more campaigns that I've managed to beat (notable The Enemy Within 3.0).

Understand on points 3 and 4. In other missions you do a good job of working around DCS's restrictions by either a) giving the user in-narrative "hints" or restrictions (e.g., "Dodge 1-1, recommend you hold west of the bridge for run-in geometry!" / "Dodge 1, Hightower has approved the rendezvous but maintain spacing no closer than 500 feet", etc.), or by making these points in the "Notes" section of the briefing.

Some bugs with mission 2: Two will say "Lead, two" while I'm engaging the mortars; I think he's supposed to say it during RTB Lead will say "Watch out 2! Break off!!" randomly during RTB (terrifying) If you call the JTAC from certain quadrants, he will give you an impossible run-in restriction (like one over the mountain ridge to the east). He will tell you to ABORT if you do not abide by his run-in restriction too. I was flying in what I thought was a sufficiently close formation to recognize someone's face in the Yak (hypothetically)... Turns out that was so close I got blowed up along with the Yak :(

Mission 9 - I'm told to go home
Stretch replied to Stretch's topic in Mi-8MTV2 and Ka-50 Memory of a Hero Campaign
Oh you have to destroy the camp? In the voiceover Eagle says to kill personnel only and not structures. -
In mission 9, I follow the waypoints, and eventually find the enemy camp. I wait for the missile strike, then when I'm told to, I approach the camp and begin destroying targets using my Vikhrs and rockets. Every time though, Eagle just says "You've been out there too long, come home." and then I see "MISSION FAILED". What am I doing wrong?

I can appreciate that it feels cramped. I pretty much copied exactly the format of the real Michelin Guide (for restaurants). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Revised how? The latest upgrade from Razbam I thought just made the switchology more in line with the real thing. AFAIK it does not change the variant of Mirage that were flying. Like I said in the OP, I don't review an aircraft until I've gotten enough hours on it. I don't want to review something I've only flown a few Instant Action missions for. I'll get to all the aircraft in due time.

Others have claimed the in-service dates in error, but they are not in error; the dates refer to the specific model in DCS. I would argue the Viggen is definitely 3rd-gen. I know there is no clear definition of the generations of the fighters, so everyone can have their own opinion, but in my opinion, a 4th-gen fighter typically has a digital mission computer, integrated HSD, up-front controls, and/or digital fire control radar. I know not all 4th-gens have all of these technologies, but I use these as a yardstick in determining the line between 3rd- and 4th-gen. As for the other errors you point out, they will be fixed in the next revision. "also why make a guide if it misses more than half of all aircrfats playable?" -- because I am but one man, and I have a day job too! I'll get to all of them; it takes time.

Sorry you find it useless :( I have a lot of fun making it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Revision 3 of the DCShelin Guide is out: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RGcCgoxEe-YLahGk0w7YzLyN11kdZUam/view?usp=sharing As I've continued to fly aircraft and beat campaigns, I've expanded the guide. This revision includes the ACM training campaigns for the F-5E, the F-14A and its campaign, Museum Relic for the F-86, and more.

Playing through the F-86 campaign, and one thing has been bothering me a bit. The briefings repeatedly refer to "Hill 39." When it's first mentioned, the briefing says something like "It's called Hill 39, because that's the only name we had for it" or something like that. Now, I had a mission to fly and everything, but I just couldn't let go of that sentence. The whole time I'm flying and fighting my way through the campaign, in the back of my head, I'm thinking … surely that hill has a name. There are tens of thousands of people living in Zugdidi, who see that hill every single day. Surely they know its name?? Well these thoughts bothered me enough that I actually tried to figure out the name of that hill. It's not on Google Maps or anything, but I did eventually find it: Mount Urta. (Or Mt'a Urta. Or მთა ურთა.) So while countless people are fighting and dying around Hill 39 aka Mount Urta, at least I can feel comfortably knowing I gave the hill and the denizens of Zugdidi the respect of learning about their geography.

MiG-21 has all-aspect IR capability
Stretch replied to Stretch's topic in F-5E Aggressors ACM Campaign
No flares dropped. All missiles fired from Missile Override Mode, inside of 6,000 feet, with a solid radar lock. Not sure why they're dropping flares for you. -

Sabre, how are you launching your missiles at the pass? I just flew 5 passes and they didn't react to my head-on missile shots at all. All shots were within 6,000 feet. Sarpalaxan, thanks for the advice. The purpose of this thread though is to discuss the all-aspect capability that the MiGs have in the ACM campaign against the F-5s. -

Thanks for the update Sabre. I’ll try being more aggressive with the missiles at the merge to deny the head-on kill. The only way I’ve been able to save my wingman is to order him to cover me, so he goes after my guy and I go after his guy. If I can get that set up he can sometimes survive. -

Another three months of banging away at this mission and still nothing. Has _anyone_ beaten it? Can I see a track or a video or something if so? I'd be willing to put down $10 that no one out there can consistently beat this mission. Please take my money and show me a video if I'm wrong :) -

The latest OB crashes for me with VAICOM enabled. It happens after I issue a command using VAICOM. Not after every spoken command, but always after a spoken command. Disabling VAICOM entirely fixes the issue.
-
Is this intended? Every other aircraft in the ACM campaign has rear-aspect only. It makes defeating them unusually difficult.
-
Did VoiceAttack v1.7.5 break this module? After updating none of my Export.lua scripts seem to work. 2019-03-24 22:04:26.421 ERROR Lua::Config: Call error LuaExportStart:<LUA_TTABLE> stack traceback: [C]: ? Lol. It’s from the actual Michelin Guide. Back in the day they put asterisks next to exemplary restaurants. Those asterisks turned into their distinctive “star.” Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Revision 2 released at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nfy7ykZfQkzF-WfdgSkDoU4yjKLz7Doy/view?usp=sharing * A-10C Stone Shield campaign added * After some reflection, awarded a star to the Ka-50 * Corrected some EFM/PFM labels * Corrected some aircraft facts * Typo fixes
-
I would appreciate your corrections, as I said in the OP.
-
Thanks for the corrections on EFM/PFM. For the years I chose the year that the specific aircraft modeled first flew, in this case the Lot 20 Hornets in particular. The A-10 first flew in 1977 but that year is hardly representative of the A-10C we have in the sim. You're right that the MiG-21 is very light on campaigns and other useful stuff. That's definitely a downside. But I personally just can't get over how well it captures the feel of flying the awkward, steam-driven, tubejet interceptor. I feel like that puts it above the rest. The Mi-8 is also an excellent bird but to me the lack of multi-crew is a critical oversight. The Mirage I think has a bit to go before its cockpit modeling, flight model, and "presence" are there. Likewise with the F-86. Fidelity tag probably does need some work; I'm not an SME so I'm not the best at it but I'm giving it a go. ASM should probably be added yes. Because of my personal tastes, currently the only aircraft in the guide are ASM aircraft. And yes, there are so many good campaigns I need to get to. Completing a campaign takes me a while with work and everything else, so it's a slow road, but I'm working on it.
