[DCS World: BS2] Ricardo's Upgraded HD Cockpit Mods
Stretch replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
OK, I checked it out, here's what I found: - In the Russian and American textures, the TLF position is the top position. - This real-life manual for the ARK-22 ( http://aviadocs.net/RLE/Mi-26T/Cd3/system/ark22/APK22-1.pdf ) shows that TLF is the top position (p. 78). - In the top (TLF) position, I hear only unsquelched static. In the bottom (TLG) position, I hear a carrier wave and the Morse code station identifier. - Section 1.3.2 of that manual describes the operation of the switch. Do we have a native Russian speaker who can translate? As best I can tell, it says that the TLF position is used to listen to AM ADF radio stations, and the TLG position is used to listen to FM ADF radio stations. The Ka-50 sim manual implies that all ADF stations in the sim are FM. - Note that section 1.3.2 says this switch is only used for LISTENING to the morse code identifier. The ADF, in compass mode, will provide a bearing to the station regardless of switch position. So, if I'm correct -- and PLEASE have a native speaker verify -- then probably the best names for the switch positions are "AM" and "FM", with "AM" being the top position. -

As long as we're fixing switches, can we fix the INU UPDATE switch to have the correct labels? The up position should be labeled "I-251", since in that position the I-251 "Shkval" is used to mark the fixpoint. The bottom position should be labeled "OFLY", since in that position, the helicopter must overfly the fix point. "INU UPDATE" describes what the switch does, but not what each position does. -
It's for people who use JSGME to manage their mods. Highly recommended.

New Static ATC Version: For those of you using sthompson's Static ATC Mod for 1.5.6 (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3090920#post3090920), use the alternate Static ATC version of these profiles (included). This will allow you to say, e.g., "Vaziani Tower, Inbound" rather than "Tower 1, Inbound". Hello all! I've made some VAC profiles for DCS World for use with the A-10C, Ka-50, P-51D, UH-1H, Mi-8, Fw-190, etc. Virtually every DCS aircraft is included. These profiles are exclusively for radio commands, and require you to key your PTT button first, for maximum realism. They're as comprehensive as possible. Download the "VAC Profiles for DCS and BMS.zip" file to get them. You should read the profiles through before using them; I've changed some of the terminology to be more standard. For example, instead of saying "Two Engage Ground Targets," you would say "Two Attack Mud." DCS: Warthog JTAC is completely unimplemented because the menus are totally context-sensitive. DCS ATC menus are also context-sensitive, but I fudged it by changing the terminology. So, if you want vectors to the airport... ... and you haven't yet called inbound, say "Alpha Check" ... and you've called inbound, say "Vectors to Final" ... and you've been "handed off" to tower, say "Vectors to Runway" If you want to cancel your landing clearance... ... and you have called inbound, say "Diverting" ... and you've been "handed off" to tower, say "Going Missed" ... and you've been cleared to land, say "Going Around" If you want to cancel your takeoff clearance... ... and you are taxiing to the runway, say "Return to Ramp" ... and you're waiting for takeoff clearance, say "Cancel Takeoff" ... and you've been given takeoff clearance, say "Aborted Takeoff" See the VAC profile for details. Everything is said in one complete phrase. So for example you would say "Two attack armor with rockets from the east" without any pauses, and it will run all the keystrokes at the end. Note that DCS now displays different menus depending on the number of AWACS/tankers/JTACs in the mission. So, if there are two tankers, you will see "F6 Tanker...", and then the next screen will have you choose which tanker you want. If there is only one, you will see "F6 Tanker - Texaco..." and the next screen will be the options for that tanker. To handle the former case in VAC, you must speak, e.g., "Tanker one request rejoin." To handle the latter case, you would speak "Tanker request rejoin." Just do a quick visual scan of the menu when you key the mic to learn which phraseology to use. Nerds: I've written a VAC profile generator in Ruby that generates VAC profiles from an easy-to-use DSL. You're welcome to download the profile generator and write and generate your own VAC profiles! See http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=83437 for more information. Comprehensive VAC Profiles for DCS BMS.zip

+1 -- I also have this problem, and I've verified that only one axis is assigned to K-14 range.

You know, I don't know a word of Russian (except Смотреть ЭКРАН ... Смотреть ЭКРАН), and I had no trouble with the download site. They're all identical; I don't even need to understand the text!

Yeah that video is definitely from a video game. Freeze-frame when the wing gets blown off -- where does the wing go, hmmm???

VAC Profile Generator + DCS:BS2 & DCS:A-10C Profiles

That's not an issue for me because, for realism, I only use voice commands for radio communications. Nothing will ever press a switch in the cockpit. Since those are all done with the F-keys, the worst that could happen is your view gets changed around. Aaaand, since I have all external views turned off (also for realism), it's a total non-issue. -

I can see that but then how do you manage something like DCS: Warthog, where there are three different mic switches for three different radios? I don't use a PTT key for VAC; I simply let it listen all the time. If I'm worried about spurious inputs I use the Close Channel and Open Channel commands. Though it is hard to say "Close Channel!" just before a sneeze. -
Anyone played that second Poke in the Eye mission on BS2? It took me quite a while to figure out that the reason my Vikhrs were missing was because there was a 60-knot crosswind. I had to check the forums. The only way to visually confirm this was correct was the smoke coming off of smokestacks, which was nearly horizontal. I feel like, in real life, trees would be whipped sideways and the howling wind would be filling my ears (at least before I shut the door and started the engine); basically, I'd have no doubt that there were gale-force winds. Would be awesome if there were some more obvious wind cues.

Realism. In the real Ka-50 you can't just start talking into your headset; likewise in the sim you must key in the mic. Bind it to a joystick key. -

New Static ATC Version: If you are using sthompson's Static ATC mod for DCS 1.5.6/ (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3090920#post3090920), download this version to generate VAC profiles that let you say things like "Vaziani Tower, inbound" rather than "Tower 1, inbound" (only works for Caucasus currently). So I wrote a quick little VAC profile generator script. This script takes an easy-to-read description of the comms menus in a DCS game, such as this excerpt: F1 Two F1 &navigation F1 Anchor Here F2 R T B, Return To Base F3 Reference My S P I, Reference My Spee, Reference My Target F4 Reference My Steerpoint F5 Reference Tanker, Refuel F2 Flight F1 *navigation ...and turns it into a VAC profile with full phrases like "Two Reference My Steerpoint." This way people can easily create and edit VAC profiles. This is only appropriate for sims with nested comms menus (like DCS and Falcon 4), and currently only works with F-keys and basic keyboard keys, so it's a little limited. To run, download the zip file and extract. You'll need to understand how to read and write Ruby 2.x code, as well as having Ruby and the Bundler gem installed on your system. Consult the example .vacc files to get started. To run, execute from the command line like so (*nix command line format): ruby generate.rb path/to/file.vacc > output_profile.xml Adjust the above for MS-DOS if needed. Generator Script.zip

So Steam is having its holiday giveaway right now ... if you complete special achievements in certain games, you earn gifts like discount codes or free games, or "coal", which can be combined to make gifts, traded with other players, or used as entries in a raffle. Aaaanyway, wouldn't it be awesome if one of the achievements was a DCS: Warthog achievement? A tour de force of the A-10, like "destroy all the AAA emplacements in the River Run mission with realistic avionics" or something. You'd have all these Quakers and StarCrafters, who'd been doing achievements in games like Deus Ex and Team Fortress, all of a sudden required to take to the skies in the most advanced flight simulator on the market today. And, to make it extra enticing, maybe completing this one gets you triple the reward or something. I think it would be awesome. You'd get a bunch of people who would be like "eff this ish" and throw out their joystick, but a few who persevere, learn the jet, get better and better, and eventually discover that the real reward of DCS: Warthog is not Steam achievements :)

Yeah, if this is VRS quality, I'll buy it.

You will have a hard time finding a checklist for an in-service Air Force aircraft; however, if you'd like to see how they are laid out, it's pretty easy to find checklists for older birds, e.g., the F-105: http://www.burrusspta.org/105_cl.html

I've heard of the simplified flight model (SFM), the advanced flight model in use in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs (AFM), and of course the flight model used by the DCS aircraft. Can someone explain the relative standings of each FM and which is used in which products?

Today I had a main and common hydro failure, limped it back to base without the autopilot, but found myself wondering if there is a way to get the landing gear down ... complete emergency procedures checklists would be wonderful. (Right now the most we get is engine failure/engine fire, which is only a small portion of the many things in the Shark that can break on you...)
