  1. I have a lot of trouble flying the Shark smoothly; that is to say, I can imagine what it is I want the Shark to do at any point in time; it's just hard moving my arms and legs in such a way as to get the Shark to do that (and only that). I feel like most the time the trimmer is a burden, not an asset, and I am fighting with it, rather than it making my flying easier. I just want the plane to fly nice straight lines beautiful, gentle curves, but it's always heaving and hoing as I wrestle with the stick and the trimmer. Any techniques for becoming a Black Shark formation aerobatics pilot?
  2. Thanks for the insight Viper.
  3. OK Viper, here are a couple examples from the last missions I flew: - Three T-72s in a row, spaced about 300 feet apart. Can the CBU-97 hit all three? If not, can I drop it between two of the T-72s and have a good chance of getting both? Or do I need to drop it over exactly one tank? These are questions not answered above. - Four utility trucks, in diamond arrangement, each about 200 feet from the centerpoint. If I want to drop a CBU-87 right in the center of the diamond, what settings are optimal to getting all four trucks?
  4. Is there a good guide to effectively using the different cluster bomb types in the game? I often find myself guessing at RPM and HOF values, dropping a bomb, then refining my guess. This means a lot of time spent over a hot AO and a lot of wasted munitions. Wondering if there are some good tables or guides to help me get more accurate first passes at these values. Likewise with CBU-97s, especially now that their behavior has been changed. Drops that used to work now result in skeets bouncing all over the place but not hitting any tanks...
  5. To be fair, you don't know that for sure.
  6. So I see it's still called "INU / UPDATE" and not "I-251 / FLYOVER". I was hoping this would be fixed in 2.0 :)
  7. The reason I ask is because I bought a top-of-the-line computer a year ago, and of course like everyone else I saw a big dip in frame rates between BS1 and BS2. With BS2, on a big (campaign) mission, graphics on full, no AA, 1680x1050, frame rates are around 10-15 when not directly looking at The Big Battle and they can dip below 1 when looking at it. So that's fine, I've just dialed it back from max for now. My question is -- is this normal? Is BS2 so advanced that even a year-old super-gaming-rig would choke with max graphics settings? (i7 920 @ 3.15, HD 5870)
  8. Uninstalled both Black Sharks, removed all files, reinstalled BS1 and then BS2, uninstalled BS1 ... things seem to be working now. However, devs take note: There is a bug -- if you uninstall BS1 after installing BS2, the Start Menu items for BS2 disappear! I had to back up my start menu items and restore them after uninstalling BS1.
  9. So I've installed DCS: Black Shark 2 by uninstalling 1.0.2, installing 1.0, then running the updater. When the updater completed it launched the game for me, which was nice. No activation dialog. I set up my control configs and stuff, then quit the game intending to relaunch it. I quit the game, but could not figure out how to relaunch it. There is nothing in the Start menu, nothing in the Games list, and no desktop shortcut. Inside the bin/ directory, if I double-click Launcher.exe, a terminal window briefly pops open, then disappears, and nothing else happens. If I double-click DCS.exe, I get an error: "DCS Warthog failed to launch." Any ideas? Would love to fly the Shark.
  10. An MMO is different from a regular multiplayer game. An MMO has a persistent world that continues to exist and evolve even when you log off. See WWII Online, for example. With DCS A-10C all we can fly are missions. We can't fly campaigns, that slowly evolve, even if you don't happen to be playing at the moment (like WWIIOL and WoW). And each individual person is responsible for hosting or joining a hosted server. There is no central server farm that all multiplayer clients connect to.
  11. You could just play 1.1.0.7. I hear it's very fun.
  12. Preparing for an influx of questions like "How do you fly it so straight and use the MFDs at the same time?!" from people who don't use the autopilot :P
  13. Almost, Kuky. The colored lights that tell you which side of the aircraft you are looking at are the position lights, part of the navigational lighting system. Most civilian aircraft also have two anti-collision lights: strobe lights, bright white flashing lights visible from a great distance, and a rotating red beacon that is usually on when the engine is running. The FAA requires aircraft in US airspace to have at least one anti-collision light on at all times. This can be either the strobes or the beacon (and it's usually both). The A-10 does not have a beacon. As per FAA rules, you can substitute the strobes for the beacon if you wish. If the strobes are too bright (e.g., in foggy weather where the light is reflected into the pilot's eyes, or when operating in close vicinity to other aircraft), the position lights can be set to flashing mode, which can suffice to meet FAA requirements for an anti-collision system.

  15. With the use of NVGs the Black Shark can still be a formidable weapons platform. The main limitation is the Shkval, which of course is a daytime-only targeting camera. However, the Shkval is not an Achilles heel, and I assume trained Ka-50 pilots can use their eyes and their allies to locate and destroy targets even at night.
  16. I wouldn't bet on the SNIPER XR pod.

  19. It's in the FAQ, which is stickied. People just need to read the FAQ before they ask their questions.
  20. Cluster bomb strategies against a variety of targets: Moving, stationary, scattered, dense, light, armored...
  21. Not true, it was said to be a popular US fighter jet.
  22. I get that, but I think even the C/D has a long loiter time compared to the, like, 30 minutes we get in Falcon 4.
  23. I'm going to get a TOS violation for this, but I can't resist ... does that mean 1-on-2 or 2-on-1 would be straight? *confused*
  24. Small fuel and weapons payload? I can tell you, after years of playing Falcon 4, to fire up FSX SuperBug and see that I could load 14,000 pounds of INTERNAL fuel, and carry EIGHT missiles, it was like a whole different world. YES, I know that's the E/F and not the C/D, I don't care.
  25. Seeing that new domain names cost about $10 to register, I'd venture that it's smart business to snap up as many F-xx and A-xx domains as you can, even if you don't have plans to build a DCS module, cuz you never know. Better to buy it now for $10 when it's available than have to buy it off the Fighter Ops crew for $10,000.
