  1. Ka-50N. Night-attack version w/ FLIR turret.
  2. Fire Birds! Holy cow, it's been ages since I've seen that movie.
  3. In a perfect world, we'd see the folks at ED team up w/ the folks at ESimGames to make the ultimate battlefield simulator. Shame we don't live in a perfect world. :(
  4. Nice choppers. I believe I've seen the first one, or one very similar, used in helicopter logging operations around the area I live in, out on the west coast of Canada.
  5. Heh, I saw that while I was down in Oz about half a year ago. It was a bit of a mixed bag, but still, it's IMAX, so it's hard to be too critical. I was wondering the same thing about the AWACS "imaging system," but I'm pretty sure it's just some CG they whipped up for the film.
  6. "Not a Good Day to Die" by Sean Naylor.
  7. I'm guessing you were watching the Su-25T tutorial when they told you to keep the throttle at idle when starting the engine to avoid an engine fire. According to the description of the Su-25T on the Lockon.ru main page... The A-10 and all other aircraft in the game have not been modelled to the same standard however. This is probably why you're not seeing a hot start.
  8. All I can say is "LOL."
  9. This isn't a vote between MiG-29 and F-16C, it is a vote between MiG-29 9.12B and MiG-29SMT. OR, "which would you prefer, MiG-29 9.12B vs. F-16C Block 50, or MiG-29SMT vs. F-16 Block 50?"
  10. That's a huge page file size. I guess it depends on how much RAM you have, but my page file is 800MB min/max. Considering how often I'm "scraping the bottom of the barrel" for space, even on a 120 GB drive, even a couple extra gigs can make a difference.
  11. Is it possible to load information from two seperate drives at the same time? I know there are large RAMdrives out there (eg. Rocket Drive) to which you can load an entire copy of the game, but I haven't heard of creating smaller RAMdrives and loading just pieces of the game to them.
  12. He did leave out Frazer's name. Read the first post again. Only when Frazer came out of the closet to tear a strip off Guru was his name mentioned in association w/ the email.
  13. Well, I don't think we can truly simulate on a computer monitor what it's like to stare into the sun for a few seconds, look elsewhere and wait for our eyes to adjust. We can approximate, but obviously there are going to be certain limitations, such as the limited brightness and darkness of computer monitors as compared to what we can see in the real world with the naked eye. Can you imagine yourself wearing a pair of sunglasses in front of the computer in order to prevent your game from blinding you? :D
  14. zaGURUinzaSKY: Valve has already introduced HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting in the Lost Coast tech demo for Half-life 2, so it makes sense that this technology will eventually find its way into other engines and other games.
  15. Heh, interesting choice of music. Haven't heard that in quite some time!
  16. Can't say I'm much into the Jag, but either the MiG-27 or the Su-17 would be great additions, IMO.
  17. Well, larger diameter does not mean better penetrating power. Logic would suggest that the opposite is the case. If you were to take a nail, halve its length and double its diameter, which do you believe would be easier to nail into a piece of wood, the original nail, or the altered one? The AK round is heavier, and has greater kinetic energy, but this does not directly translate into better penetration.
  18. Vortex Ring State, aka Settling with Power. Basically if you descend at high RoD, steep angle, low forward airspeed, you start falling into your own downwash. Because the inner area of the rotor generates less downward air velocity (as the blades spin more slowly near the center), you can reach a point where air actually starts going UP through the center of the rotor. Causes loss of control, lots of rattling. That Marine Osprey went down because of this. One of the proprotors went into VRS and caused the aircraft to roll over into the ground.
  19. Dunno about the manual, but it tells you to hold down the trigger until all munitions are released in the training tracks... About the manual, though... I recall reading/seeing somewhere that bombs on the outermost pylons (2, 3, 7, & 8) are released in symmetric pairs to avoid overly unbalancing the aircraft, whereas bombs can be dropped singly from the innermost pylons (not talking about MERs here). I played the quick-fly Su-25 mission today w/ the default loadout (4 RBK-250s, 2 S-25Ls, 2 MER*4 FAB-100s), and I was able to single-release the RBKs from the outermost pylons. Was this something that was changed in a patch subsequent to the 1.1 release? To be fair, I'm not really complaining, heh. I'd rather use only the amount of ordnance needed on a target, and it only took a little bit of trim to sort out the imbalance.
  20. Hah, is that this video? http://www.nato.int/video/990519a.mpg
  21. Humm... In the 1.2 screenshots of the cockpit, practically the entire area where that RWR sits is taken up by that big ol' electronic display (KABRIS?) Linky Makes me wonder how old that photo is. Also notice that there's an instrument missing beneath the Shkval TV screen.
  22. Whoa, no R-73's or Iglas on the Ka-50? I noticed in the payload editor that the Ka-52 can carry the R-73, though. Does it actually have this capability IRL, and if so, what are the differences between the Ka-52 and the Ka-50 that allow it to carry R-73s?
