Thanks for all the hard work. I just started messing with this yesterday and burned up half a day and got nowhere fast. Question: In the Logitech X52 Professional HOTAS Software, in grid view, should the "Pinkie" be set to Unprogrammed, Fall Back, or Button?

I am guessing this will work with the X52 Pro so I am trying to get it set up. Could someone better explain what to do with the SST software here? Prerequisites : - for DCS to recognize the PINKIE as a button, we need to remove the shift states in the SST SW: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=83215 The video is in German and I don't understand what to do there. Thanks -
Well with his luck they will break too and I will be even more sorry I bought him FC3 for his birthday and then talked him into buying all those other jets. :D I helped him again today and we updated a bunch of drivers (that we tried and failed before using the Windows method. Windows said we were using the best drivers etc) and hoped for the best but still the same. I will keep you posted.

Can anyone confirm if this works with the X52 Pro version. Thanks -
Well so far he is in luck as I think the change is only in the Beta Version and we are running the Stable Version.

I am afraid to ask him. But I will find out later today. If they all break then that may help figure this out. If his other 3 with the new protection (Viggen and Mirage and Nevada) do not break, then that will tell us something too. Right now I bought 2 expensive books to try to figure out how to figure out how to fix his pc and haven't had much time to read them yet. :P Thanks

Well, I guess it's time to learn how to use the Sysinternals tools like process monitor etc. It's been a while since I looked at them but at least I will get to learn the tools for future troubleshooting. It's going to be a while but if I ever figure it out I will post it here. It sure would be easier if I had his computer instead of trying to fix it using Teamviewer. :music_whistling:

Yeah, we've been fighting this issue since he bought the Harrier along with a bunch of other jets during the July sale. Thanks for the help and if you think of anything else please post. Thanks

Could you check and see exactly which DCS entries are excluded in your firewall? He is running Win10 64 Pro. Maybe a screenshot or just a list of the DSC entries. I am going to look at mine too but maybe there is an entry that has an unusual name that makes it harder to spot. Thanks Still seems funny the firewall would cause the game to crash though. edit: I have DCS and DCS Updater in my Win 10 Pro Firewall. DCS is Private and Public and DCS Updater is Private only. I am positive he does too.

Ok, so when we did the complete uninstall, we did not have to activate all of his working jets so that means something didn't get removed (from the registry). So, with the Harrier, with its new protection that phones home to the users account, you are saying they use the registry for that jet/module too? If so, would I just look for the AV-8B keys in the registry and delete them and try installing the jet again? Anyone know where those keys are? :P Thanks I think ED needs to add some error handlers so when stuff like this happens it throws a message on the screen that say something like: Error 13 Contact Technical Support That way they know what routine or subroutine is where the error is being generated from.

I was wondering if maybe the new copy protection system uses TPM and that needs to be enabled on his system??
-
Thanks for the info. We just did a complete uninstall and reinstall and still the Harrier breaks the game. I f we remove the Harrier the game runs just fine and all the other jet modules work fine. It's driving us nuts. Something about that new protection on that module and his system that we cannot figure out.

Yes, deleted everything in saved games folder and everything else related to DCS EXCEPT the registry. There was nothing DCS left on the PC and I was was one doing it through Teamviewer. Now he has to reassign his keystrokes and HOTAS. Thanks for the idea though. :)

Here is the latest log in it's entirety: It ends right there and the Viggen does actually work fine.

Ran Sophos AV and a few other scanners and nothing signifigant found and same problems exists. I have the logs and will send them up in a little while.
-
The logs have been given to tech support before now but when the game doesn't load the log is really short and not much good. I will get onto his pc and grab the logs and post them here. Thanks Edit: We are currently running a root kit scan (Sophos) and it is gonna take a while. Then we will run some other Anti Spyware program just to look for any problem maybe the other scanners missed. Any other good scanners we could run to insure system integrity? We did the SFC on windows a few times and no problems found.

I tried to open ports on his router but the ones I tried were for hosting so that did not help. The firewall has been looked at and everything looks like it is correct unless we are missing a specific item besides DCS that need to be open. We removed the AV (in the past) and that didn't help and he runs the same exact AV software as I do and mine works. We also have Malwarebytes but it hasn't reported or quarantined anything. I did think about running a bunch more scanners and even rootkit scanners to dig deeper... Thanks edit: Malwarebytes reported this but he didn't tell me about it until it happened again today: 5.158.237.220 port 6881 inbound h:\dcs world\dcs world\bin\dcs_updater.exe So I excluded it in MB and it doesn't fix the problem.

Ok, so we uninstalled DCS and deleted everything left in the folders. Downloaded DCS 2.5 stable and reinstalled it. I told him to add the AV-8B first instead of last after all of his other purchased jets and it failed exactly like before. The game will not start up with the AV-8B installed. Today he is going to add/install all of other jets and likely we will move or delete the AV-8B folder so we can fly. This is the only jet he has that has the new software protection on it so he is already worried about the future as he wants to buy the FA-18 later. Any other suggestions?? Thanks

Thanks for the link. I will study up on it and see if we can use it.

Thanks for the followup.

I just found out about this utility during my conversation here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216875 Will this utility actually do the same as a reinstall would do, or is it for maintenance? My step dad is having a problem whenever he installs his Harrier the game will not start up completely and does not show up in the task manager. If he removes the Harrier folder everything works great. If I add the Harrier to his setup and remove it using this utility will it clean the reg files or just delete the folder. The Harrier has the new protection as opposed to all the working jets using StarForce. Thanks
-
Yes. Tried about everything. The only thing that won't work and causes the game to not even run is when the Harrier is added.
-
Thanks. One last question. Should we leave the AV-8B folder removed from the sim before the uninstall or have it in the mods folder (making the sim broke where it won't start) ? Thanks

What is skatezillas's app and where do I find it? And there was not any messing around in the registry as I was doing all the work through TeamViewer with him watching. I found this on the DCS site: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/564/ Q: I want to reinstall the game on the same PC, do I need to use deactivation? A: If you just uninstall the game and then reinstall it again on the same PC without reinstalling your operating system or changing hardware, you do not need to use a deactivation So if that is true then it won't be too big of a deal to try reinstalling the sim.

I bought him FC3 for his birthday and all was fine. Then the July sale came and I talked him into buying a bunch of jets so we would have the same ones. When he installed all the new jets everything went down hill after he installed them all. We looked at the dcs log and it appeared the Viggen was the problem. After that I thought maybe his pc was not up to spec as he had a X58 i7 920 @ 2.66gH and only 12 GB of ram. So I found him a cpu on ebay (i7 980) and got him to buy 24BG Triple channel ram as that is the most his MB allows. This made the sim much better and he re-installed the game (we forgot to deactivate the modules so lost a few deactivations), and one jet module at a time. Everything was going according to plan and all of the modules working and all he had left was the AV-8B. He installed that (all installs from the module manager) and then the game would not open. Just like before. So now we thought we knew the culprit. So I cut the AV-8B folder out of the Mods folder and pasted it elsewhere in case we needed it back. Then the game/sim works great with all the other jets. Question. If we re-install the game again do we have to deactivate all the modules yet again or can we uninstall the game and the modules will remain activated? Thanks
