  1. The learning curve, especially for anyone not familiar with rotary wing physics and operation (trim, flight control systems, etc), is going to burn a lot of hours getting their head around the basics. There are a whole lot of tutorials out now that lay out how to fly the shark in laymen terms since release that will get you in the right direction. The best way to learn is to how helicopters work is to get those reading glasses (or monocle if you're high speed :) ) , there are many books available but I suggest this: http://www.amazon.com/Principles-Helicopter-Flight-W-Wagtendonk/dp/1560276495/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1_rsrssi0 After that, read the manual thoroughly, this airframe is loaded with equipment that will make your life easier flying while you focus your attention on putting weapons on targets. Watch as many tutorial videos as you can, this youtube channel has pretty much everything you'll need to know how to operate the KA50: http://www.youtube.com/user/eagledcs#p/u/20/WY9E0ipyI38 After that, just get as much stick time as you can. feel how the airframe reacts with and without autopilot and flight director. I (big indicator, "I", not everyone) would recommend purchasing a force feedback system. You will notice right away how trim is used to control the airframe. I use the Logitech G940 system and with these settings: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=954388&postcount=118 This sim isn't for the recreational gamer. If you have a fetish for aviation, fly model or full scale rotary wing aircraft, you can really appreciate the attention to detail ED and everyone involved put into this. This sim singlehandedly rose an entire genre back from the dead (really really bleached bone dead). Word does spread fast as I mentioned this sim to two people I work with who like PC gaming and both know and admire the sim, that says a lot for a sim that is supposed to be the final nail to the genre.
  2. Just tried Alec's new settings and damn does FF work well. The stick is more accurate in resetting trim and there is almost no slop. The attitude really stays the way you intended the trimmed position to be. Same goes for force then trim. Great work Alec, be sure to spread the word to Logitech.
  3. Is it me or does anyone notice a little blur effect in the video? Cockpit seems more immersive and overall seems like a big graphics improvement over BS. Looks very solid.
  4. Update: applied the new firmware update and now it is holding perfectly with good authority, returns to the same position when the stick is moved. I'm hooked.
  5. Just got the 940 and with your settings I was really impressed on what FFB can provide. I can control the shark without second guessing on how my stick was previously trimmed. It will take a little getting used to the looser controls I am familiar with on my Cougar, but I think this will be a great replacement (though I will probably never sell the cougar).
  6. Any more people happy with Sharkster64's setup? I'm getting my 940 tomorrow and will be tinkering around a whole lot, whole lot to learn.
  7. Makes sense, I'll have to try that next time, thanks!
  8. If I remeber right, isn't the z key the keyboad command for left yaw? If so, how would that help with centering the yaw trim?
  9. Forget your Zoloft this morning? What's with the anger? I merely suggested the pros of going from the Cougar to the G940 and would like feedback from owners on their experience. Currently from my research I seen enough positive reviews to make my decision unless there is a serious hardware defect or quality assurance issue.
  10. If the G940 is getting a 'slagging', can you provide examples? I read posts by users on this board and it seems that the problems they are having isn't really hardware related but more software related (stick play and trimmer not releasing pressure, etc) and those issues have been resolved. I've researched the U2NXT and hall sensors and it is outrageously expensive for what I get.
  11. Few things. First, and the biggest reason: Force Feedback. Having FF is necissary when flying BS and will add another layer of fidelity to other sims. Second, Not enough features to justify the high price. In my eyes, it would be paying $500+ for a HOTAS the SAME setup as the cougar but with a different throttle, and new sensors, that's it. On the other hand, $300 will give me a new FF stick, split throttle, AND nice rudders. Thrid, The TM Warthog is too propriatary for me that when I use other sims, just doesnt make enough sense to use. I would rather use a non replica hotas to simulate multiple aircraft. An example would be is what button would I map the Fuel flow switches to on the throttle in a sim that doesn't have multiple engines or the fidelity of having that as an option. The way I see it, the G940 gives an extra (and in BS, necissary) layer of fidelity with FF and a non propriatary platfrom to use with multiple sims, and rudder.. For a much lower price tag.
  12. I've been putting a lot of thought into upgrading from my cougar/CH pedal to the Logitech G940 system. I got a few questions before I make the plunge. Is the quality of the equipment good compared to the Cougar? I'm not expecting the weight of the Cougar but reliability and play around the cetner. Second, how hard is it to configure to work properly in BS? I read threads that go into deep detail on how they had to configure trim to work the way it should (press trim->trim pressure released->set->release). Lastly, are you happy with the HOTAS and if you had a choice, would you choose another system? Thanks guys
  13. Good job! I'm inching closer and closer to getting the 940. I'm still on the fence between that and the TM Warthog, both I am sure are professional grade hardware, as I currently own a TM Cougar. The more I think, the more I am decided on getting the 940 because of it's price (BIG issue considering the stick is similar to the TM cougar so all I would get is a better sensor and a nice throttle),quality, hall sensors, and non propritary setup (for example, there's not much you can really do with the TMW throttle panel in terms of using the switches practically when you venture outside of DCS-A10.. though I dont think many will, me included :-D ), and finally, FF which will make every sim shine, especially for BS where it is pretty much a must when trimming. Now I need to finalize my draft for my next gaming desktop ( building it myself, nerd style :) )
  14. I figure the generic sounds are part of the alpha code and affected by the compression from Youtube. That's why I'm putting money down on the possiblity of hearing the cockpit motors go to work when you open/close it.
  15. Outstanding video, all the noise bouncing around in that tiny pit really adds to the immersion.
  16. Same for me, I was focusing on the F16 as an example on how immerse a cockpit closing and opening can be.
  17. This may be a low priority interest but one of the cool things about DCS as well as FC2 is the ability to close and open your cockpit, simulating that strapped in and ready to rock feel or you just finished your mission and still in one piece, it is very rewarding and makes for a good end of a mission. The problem is there is no real noise when you actuate them barring DCS which the door isn't motorized. Not being an audiophile, I've been following another SIM (not to cross advertise or get into a flame war on the legitimacy of it existing), there is a section of sounds from an F-16 that include the canopy closing/opening noise. Notice the ambiance of the outside to it locking shut into place and you clearly feel that you are in a small, tiny office.. and vice versa. Have a listen and let me know what you think. http://www.fighterops.com/index.php?page=sounds Having watched the Producer Notes 2 of the A10C (Thanks and get well soon, Wags!), I noticed the canopy closing was much like FC2 with no sound. Knowing it is still not finalized, are there any efforts to implement those sounds by the devs or even by third party modders?
  18. I'd love to watch the world cup but itsBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
  19. Thanks for the upload, Wags! Hope your leave is a vacation!
  20. Curious when the JTAC gives a bearing (west of the smoke), in what perspective is that 'west' direction coming from? West in the eyes of the Jtac or they know where the A10 is coming and it is to THEIR west... or is it west of north?
  21. I also think that how close the skhval will be to the saved target is dependant on how long it's been since you had an INU update, I think there is a significant deviation per hour with no INU update.
