There are good chances that in general you will be better with old drivers regarding your 6600GT , its probable that there is nothing in the newer drivers that your card can use , and its more likely that they will cause you issues. There are various stable , widely combatible and well performing drivers in the 8x.xx range, 84.56 were the ones i had the best results with and no major problems with. I am using the 169.21 now but only because i have an 8800GT and i had problems with the previous versions such as this shadow bug, issues that 169.21 hasn't fix yet.

  5. it has been reported for ati cards as well, not as much as with nvidia but it does. I myself never had a problem either with the shadows in any of my previous cards (GF3, GF4, 9600XT, 6600GT, 6800GT, 7800GTX) but i have now with 8800GT what exactly is the name of the technology used for those shadows ?
  6. yes , thiridwire also did the same with its sims not running properly on ati cards .... Theres no way nvidia would bother fix this but ED can and should , as you said, find some time and fix this .... Till then, i am thinking of diging a bit in this, since NOBODY more techical experienced published or said anything technical about this .... Starting from what exactly is the name of the technology used for those shadows ? maybe for example there is some dx8 dll workaround for this even if it means temporary replacing (or calling through switches or bat etc) that latest drivers dll with the old dx8 one Hungaro, what card you have?

I did the custom formation thing with separate airgroups , it woudln't work with flights, as every flight (and all its aircraft) is represented by a single aircraft symbol in the mission editor . The way to do it is to have separate airgroups and place them as close as you want manualy with the mouse and keep their waypoints parrallel in whatever alignment you like, spearhead, egress etc Thanks everyone and a happy new year
  8. errr sorry i didnt clearify this, i meant both purely AI formation ("flight") and Player-AI formation ("flight"). For example a flight consisting of either a player and few other AI planes or a full AI flight, of different planes flying in close formation ... Also a pitty that there are no formation type options ..... I am talking about the clipping mentioned in graphics settings. I wondered if its about when (distance from player) an object is drawn, appears, and in how many steps its fade-in transition would be ... How do we control those two factors? is it any of the settings in MODMAN? yeap thats what i did too, now i am editing their volume level and will resave them back lol (Thats a dynamic questions list, i am updating it already with more) Happy New Year, Wisdom, Health, Prosperity & Peace to you too :)
  9. How step by step can we make a formation of different planes ? What exactly is clipping ? Which of the volume settings sliders corresponds to betty? i dont seem to find out how to lower the volume of nagging betty (annoying over-G and pull-up). Is it possible to have more than one LO installations on the same system? for example, a LO, a FC, a moded FC etc. would modman have any control on which one to apply modifications?

  11. FSAA works if you choose from the global settings "override any application settings" and force this way your AA , (2x, 4x, 8x, etc) leave it there, on global settings once. Then it should work with program specific settings as well, they have LOCK ON listed in the applications in there. Thats an old bug of nvidia not refreshing properly registry entries with new settings. Takes some time tweaking to set it up to run well with 8800s and the new drivers. There is no such thing as older drivers for 8800GT, its a new card and the oldest drivers that support this one are of the 169 family anyways .... If you ask me, i believe there are good chances that this shadow bug is something ED could and should fix. Happened with other nvidia cards, since the age of GF4, and with some ATi ones as well and ofcourse a multitude of drivers. I just cant digest it that i dont have full shadows with this new uper duper pc .... btw i fresh installed vanila LOCKON 1.00 to this pc and ran like a dream ... going to 1.02 kinda spoiled it a bit but still works fine. except the full shadow thing .............
  12. What exactly do you mean? When i have high visibility range, the objects, including targets, exist from any distance i try to spot them, (including zoom-in). While with medium range the objects (bankers, tolls, vehicles, planes) appear only when i get very close to them (they pop up with the known fade-in effect). Realisticaly I should be able to spot a bridge, a banker, a vehicle formation, a stationed aircraft, from a 5-10 miles distance isn't that so? Well thats happening only with high visibility range. With medium range i have to get to 10 meters distance to have something appear (drawn, rendered) .... Maybe there is something wrong with my installation?
  13. this seems to be a very widespread and old bug. Majority are various generations nvidia cards and various generations forceware drivers. My eye caught an ATI case or two have been reported as well though (and could there be more out there that just didnt post) . Both vista and XP as well. Lots of threads around about it (eg http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23479&st=0&p=138101&) Myself only now have this issue, with my new system (Q6600, 8800GT). Didnt had it before with any card (ati or nvdia) i owned or any drivers i used (i was on AMD though with all these till now). I believe this should be something fixable, actually i'd suspect ED would be the very well alternative one after nvidia to maybe fix this somehow. Seems pretty much something maybe traceable given the number of people having it. Some dll? some cfg adjsutment? DX related issue? Should be traceable by someone having some related technical knowledge and the will to find out. ( i wonder for example if all people having this issue run on Intel or AMD. could be lets say for example an SSE and related software something related? ) Maybe gathering more hardware and software information about our own systems and setup would help anyone interested to dig in this. XP here I have an 8800GT now with 169.09 and full shadow doesnt work, just wraps the plane in a darkening skin ... any fix for that? shimmering and image quality seems to be treated tolerably enough with the highest image quality settings of the drivers at the expense though of High Visibility Range which is a must for me ... i cant combat much in medium visibilit range, and ofourse is a matter of CPU here. Despite it being a Q6600 @ 3Ghz it turns to a stuttering frustration of very low fps when use high visibility range. I finally made the upgrade and now experimenting with the best settings prioritising High Visibility Range .... high visibility range still gives all the trouble even with this system (and this high visibility range was all the fuss about for me lol) Q6600 @ 3Ghz 2x1Gb DDR2 800 @ 1066 8800 GT @ 700/1000 - Full shadow option doesnt work anymore, just wraps the whole plane in a dark skin. Any ideas? - Everything is cool performance and image quality wise until i hit high visibility range .... graphics settings do very little to improve the situation there. (its ofcourse a CPU story, and even this hog of processing power bends here ...) Any good mods that seriously improve high visibility range performance? besites the fps drop, there is also the return of stutters even in good framerates in general the 8800GT doesnt seem to sweat at all with lockon My usual settings are 1024x768 or 1152x864 2x - 4x antialias 8x - 16x anisotropy minimum shimmering treatment settings (like clamp, optimizations disable etc) mirrors med scene medium (cant even imagine the slide show of high scene :( ) water medium ( i love the very high efffects though ) traffic no ..... blur on preload 100 shadows all planar ( i wish i could use the full though) effects high lights all haze advanced color 32

  18. back in the days of my XP 2700+ i got an audigy2 value to help CPU cope better with LockOn and maybe eliminate stutters ... (I am not sure if it worked, sure though outputs better sound than the onboard especially through the otherwise messy Creative software) Upgrading from X2 4400+ to C2 (probably Q6600) would that audigy help CPU cope better with LockOn (and FSX etc) or is not helping any more or better than the onboard sound chip would do ?
  19. i have searched through all the treads and still i would like if possible, people that have LOCKON experience on both dual and quad to state details like what was the the CPU behavior during Lockon (how many cores active, what was runing on which etc) and stats or experience from performance differences (including TIR implementations etc)
  20. my Core2 upgrade dilemma bound to LOCKON upgrading might be close and i am having thoughts of going quad. Is there any comperative experience around as to how LOCKON performed from single to dual to quad core systems? If i choose to keep things as budget as possible it will be dual core but for few bucks more it looks like an investment going quad (same performance as dual + some more multithread backup power for future possible needs aka OSes, new games, maybe multicore patch for LockOn series? .... - wishful thinking ...) what the experts have to say? ...

  22. well, its that i still cant max visibility range which i need it to indentify targets before its too late and i cant fly over populated areas without the thing turn into a slide show, not to mention the case when the immersion thickens and the freezes of the sudden effects rendering struggles. As i whined again in another thread, i gained a lot of FPS in areas that FPS was already good with my current rig, but none to few where i really wanted to keep a minimum of 25-30 .... if deep config moding of LockOn would change that ... i'd probably stick with this rig till black shark throws it all through the window again lol

  24. my settings are deffinitely lower than those , but i havent done yet any "deep" modification , will check this out when i find more free time. my settings: textures : high scenes : med (not highest but i want it) terr prld : 100 civ traff : no water : medium haze basic / advanced lights : (not all) visib rng: medium (not highest but i want it) effects: medium heat blr : on shadows : all planar color : 32 resolution : 1024 x 768 mirrors : medium My rig is described above And i get 13 fps flying over sevastopol and freezes upon ground strafing or explotion effects (to the degree that when unfreezed, i am finding myself in quite a distance further in an uncontrolled direction, often just on the ground ...) i have also to note that you went from XP 3200+ to C2D, while my X2 4400+ should be normaly a boost already comparing to XP?
