Yes it's nice flying with a big screen. A lot of wood I used in mine came from the dump.. Do you have something like that near you? What sort of shop have you tried to get MDF?... Did people know what type of thing you wanted?
-
Hi Succellus, Yes - I'm going to look at a 3 x screen option... Or several options! Don't know when I will be able to afford it... Maybe early next year. It is really good flying in it. I've just asked my neighbour if I can use her Garage to finish it off and she said okay. I don't have a garage - just a shed! I'm stripping it down thiis week and will move it next weekend. It will make a difference when it's completely done and I can take the time to set up the sim properly.... not long now! :).. How is yours going?

Thanks Pitbldr - word's cant describe! :)

Oh about $140.. I might be wrong there... but with the shipping to the uk will have to ask pitbldr.. It depends on if you want just the panel or box and what shipping options etc. I don't even know if pitbldr is making and / or selling anymore, as I said you will have to ask him. I had to buy the switches, wire. and LED's.. it wasn't much... £15 to £20 pounds. I have to say though. I bought a replica A10C - UFC custom built! ... for what I consider is peanuts... compared to commercail hardware - that only ever works with FSX!!
-
Oh and no I didn't use a CNC for any of the build. A lot of the time it was a hacksaw blade wrapped in a bit of tape so that it didn't cut my hand.. lol :)
-
Hi Ragtop, No I don't mind. I didn't build the UFC. Pitbldr made the panel and box and shipped it over. I just added the switches and hooked it up. I started the build Dec 2010 and have probably spent about £1000 but a lot of that was on new tools, wood.... and stuff like that.

UFC test I've wired the UFC and configured it to the sim. Everything works except for two switches. I hope it's just a connection problem and not a switch failure as it will be easier to fix! I'm happy enough for now. I tested the floodlights under the UFC. I think it worked okay. I have given myself a three week deadline to complete the build and paint, and probably another two weeks to configure the software and hardware. Hopefully it will be complete by early November... Anyway - the latest pics........................... I would just like to thank everyone on the forum for all your help and support :)

Thanks Gadroc - you're right. It's worth the extra $30 more.

Hi Gadroc, I was going to run my UFC caution LED's with it. But don't worry I can buy the one that is compatable if it's too much trouble. Thanks for your help :)

Hi Does anyone know if this board will work with Helios? http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?category=0&product_id=1002 Thanks for your help :)
-
Hi Gadroc - If you get this!... Will this work with Helios? http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?product_id=1002 Thanks, P

That's great! Thank you :)

Hi Tulsa, Any chance you can give some instruction of how the programme your Phidgets board with Helios? Thanks....
-
Hey Tulsa, Did you need to use resistors with your LED's or are they just powered through your PCB... How do you specify the voltage? Just received my Leo Bodnar board this week and am still trying to work it out. Haven't ordered my Phidgets board yet because I am only going to run the caution light off it! Cheers :)

Looks brilliant Tulsa.... Would really like to see it when you get the LED's working :)

HI TulsA-10, I have a picture on this page... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70880&page=3 I used 6mm MDF with a 2mm piece of perspex on the back so that it fits onto the monitor. The bezils are made from 3mm plastic sheet which I bought from an RC model shop. I used 2 x hole cutters - can't remember the size now and cut the plastic first (I just marked these out on the sheet in squares then maked the middle.. then cut. I found you have to use a very slow speed with the hole cutters on both the plastic and MDF - otherwise the plastic melted and caught the blade! or with the MDF it just got clogged and wouldn't cut.. After I cut the plastic I placed them on the panel and used masking tape to hold them down - then cut the MDF. For the ADI I used two layers of plastic - one to give it more depth and the other so that I could cut the inside piece with vertical edges (I cut this one by hand). After gluing the bezils to the MDF I used very short screws (about 4mm) drilled and set them into the bezil edge (they are glued in!... I the future it should be possible to make several instrument panels and just swop them over :)

Hi Everyone, I've been Pit building for a long time... So thought this weekend I would start training. I tried the landing training and couldn't get further then entering the frequency for the ILS. I entered 110 and coudn't do anything else... (the yellow highlight wouldn't disappear)... Don't know what I am doing wrong - can anyone help? Thanks :)

Sod the build! I thought this weekend - sod the build - I'm going to use my half built pit! Having trouble with TIR at the moment. A yaw movement of the head causes pitch and roll as well! - I'll have to do a few tests and sort it out... feels weird flying without it. Trying out the pit - fantastic... really immersive - more then I thought it would be :) - I'm really pleased... Still got quite a bit to do, just want to get it finished now. It's going to take me longer than the build to learn how to fly it!...... Pictures are of 1. Showing one flood lifgt over the throttle.... 3 is taking off... 4 night flying...:)

Here... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70880&page=12 I've just checked some of your links... you get some really cool stuff in the U.S. Better then us :( (UK)

I like that Tulsa. I am building one too. Looks like you will have yours finished before me... So I'm going to call back often.. to see how yours is going and pick up any tips... great :) Pitbldr is very helpful isn't he?
-
Hi Succellus, Yes AWESOME - worth all the time and effort :)
-
Hi Pitbldr, I am going to TRY and solder the wires this weekend. I've ordered Leo Bodnar's PCB so I'll test when it gets here. I've never been very good with soldering... usually end up with a big lump of solder with nothing joined! .. so I'm just going to take my time :)

First system test Put everything together this weekend - except the rudder. I actually flew the sim (first time in months). Throttle and stick work fine at the moment! :) I took a pic during daylight. I have no problems seeing the instruments with the sun behind me. I haven't tested TIR yet. I fitted the pilot light (left hand side of the pit) and will wire it to one of the switches behind the throttle. I've fitted the switches on the UFC and they work well. There is a slight light bleed around the edge of the buttons but I've spoken to Pibldr and am going to try something this weekend. I'm going to strip everything down now, sand and paint, hopefully by the end of October...... not long now - only 9 months so far!!
