Wow! - That is amazing!! :))

Test Took a few more pics before I strip everything out again. The screen etc looks a bit scratched.. It's not it's just the plastic covering to protect it. I was trying the place the throttle so that I can mark out the panel going over it. I'ts a struggle to get into at the moment but once you are seated - it feels great... Hopefully when it all comes together it will be quite immersive. When I extend the glare shield I want to put small LED's underneath, so they light the instrument panel (I tried to create the effect - crudely - in the pictures.. but it gives the general idea. I am also going to downlight - above the throttle housing. There is room also to put a small light on a flexable arm (for map reading etc)...

Sorry to hear that - hope you feel better soon.. :)

How is it going Thomas - is it finished yet?

New seat Finished the new seat today. I had to move the stick back 3/4" so had to make a new mount for the jotstick 3/4" longer. The seat was widened an inch as well. The stick clears the instrument panel by 1/2" which is fine. I still have work to do on the rudder but will do some work on the throttle before I get to that. Anyway, the seat fits, is comfortable and has plenty of leg room. I want the throttle to look like it's seated, so will make the panel from MFD so that it is flush. I am also going to use a Belkin N52 te behind the thottle. I'll see what I can get done tomorrow.

Seat test It's been a long week work wise, so I haven't been able to do too much. However, I tested the seat postion and view through the canopy tonight and it feels as if the basics are coming together. I am going to make a new seat pan tomorrow and the joystick needs to come back about an inch to fully clear the instrument panel. I took one picture to try and show the view through the canopy... isn't great but you might get an idea. I need to start work on bulding the steps and arm rest/ mouse mat, so i'll take a look at that ths weekend - see if I can work out how to do it. The instrument panel in the pictures is just one I messed up and now use for tests (for size, clearence etc).

Great thanks Tailspin :)

Where did you get your ejection sticker?

Seat supports I've finished the new seat supports. I have to make a new seat pan now (this weekend) the seating position is much better. I'll post some pics this weekend. At the moment I am using this pit (see attached) I built it from an old medical chair I found at the dump (it needed cutting up because It moved in varios ways!) then I bought a Tillett racing seat from ebay and added my X52 pro. Works really well - although it is quite small. I am going to sell it when I finish my new pit - so if anyone is interested let me know.

Yes I am looking forward to seeing the end result too........ Looks good so far!

Thanks CubPilot. I have to get a board for the UFC Pitblr is making for me, so I could probably connect it up to that. I'll give it a go and post some pics...... cheers!

Great stuff Cubpilot. How will you get your gear lever to work with the sim? I would like to try something similar :)
-
Thats very cool :D

Yes - really nice job. How do you do your metalwork. Do you have a lathe?
-
That's great - can't wait. I am going to integrate it into my instrument panel and the make an aluminium extension to the glare shield - raising it to the height of the UFC (hard to explain without a picture) But basically the UFC will be partly set into the top of my instrument panel - (about an inch and a half) then covered with the extension - will look very cool hopefully.

It's funny all this building work and I can count the amount of times I have actually used DCS A10C on the fingers of one hand. Haven't even used my WH yet (only for a quick test). I had maybe one free flight in the hog. One thing I really did l.ike was the flight model. It was very much like a glider the way you have to use the energy of the aircraft.... I was impressed, lovely to fly. I will obviously have a steep learning curve to learn to fly the hog after I have finished my pit!

Hi pitbldr, How is the UFC build going... have been busy myself! But looking forward the including the UFC into my cockpit :). Hope all is well........

canopy Just put the canopy on (it's not fixed yet) to take a couple of pictures. It's difficult to get a good view because the room I am working in is quite small!

Cradle Yes Spec 10 - you are right but at the time I didn't realize how much work was involved... and the time to do it of course. I'm remaking the seat supports. It needs to be higher, then the seat position will be good. I'm also going to re-make the seat pan for added support for the thigh. With the leg supported in this way the lower leg will fall perfectly down to the rudder. I'm going to use rubber washers between the seat pan and supports - hopefully it will aid the Buttkicker (when I get one!). Pics attached showing the new seat support (well one) and the glider resting in it's cradle. It will all be covered with 12mm MDF and rounded off. I'm going to build a step into the side of the cradle and cut the side of the fusalage down to aid entry and a rest (or mouse platform) which will also act as the top step.

Base build Been a good week. I built the base frame... It's level. thank god! I tested the seat position and wasn't happy. With the attached pictures it's difficult to see how limited the space is inside the K6 cockpit -. I think now that it probably would have been easier to design this build from scratch rather than trying to fit everything into the confines of the glider. Despite any setbacks I think it will work (immersion wise) when it is complete. I had to cut a larger hole for the rudder because it didn't feel comfortable when I sat inside and tried the rudder/ control postion. I've built a new box to hold the rudder control and will maybe have to make a new seat pan ( I'll try sitting in the seat again when it's back in the frame then deside).
-
Still building the base. Should be complete by the end of next week. Pics to follow soon!

Rudder and base Just made the first part of the rudder box. I think I'm going to open up the front so that I can adjust the position of the rudders. Looks crap at the moment but it works. I'll cut it down and to shape before building the base. I wish I had taken some pictures when I first brought it home. It was a real mess! I'm going to sand down the bulkhead behind the seat then line the inside with thin ply.

No I haven't installed the screen yet. I've got a lot to do beforehand. Your setup is cool. Have you got all the equipment yet?
-
Yeah Succellus, Bigbad is right - Most of the money I have spent has been on tools. My father doesn't have any! Even with a worktable - you can substitute this with something else... BUt also, I can see the look in my wife's eye........ Mmmm - new tools... spare room needs re-doing... there is going to be payback time in the future .. haha :)

Thank you - So do I! - It's a nightmare trying to cut just using a hacksaw blade with a bit of tape wrapped around the end.
