Trying to use laser mavs with lightening pod but when I try to box the mav on stores page it goes to laser search mode on the mfd. I can't seem to paint it with the TPOD and hand it off to the mav. I am being special but don't know why/how?

reported Muliplayer Server Screen Freezing
eUK Nibbler replied to Gui_Santos's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
Yup same here too, no changes, played yesterday on 4YA Normandy now can't use the multi player section. -
Seen a few people here say the 8kx is a step up in clarity to the g2. Incorrect, the g2 is way sharper in its sweet spot, its just that it's sweet spot is smaller. Just got the 8kx (nope not a paid shill) and will report back. Atm it's a pain in the arse mixed with great potential so will get back to you. Fps seems OK BTW, it's just the ipd/sweetspot focus giving me crap.

Turn terrain shadows completely off, you get used to it really quick.

apparently loosing terrain shadows helps

ED are working on vulkan. Q3 is a target. if we're lucky we'll see it next year. best put the dust covers on my Hotas then ;-/ I've changed/trailed enough settings to get it reasonably smooth. Things i've learned.... Clouds on standard, they dance around more on low and in VR higher setting doesn't look better but really cost you. Don't turn of Hyperthreading like some say, makes it slightly worse (i have 10900k) Legacy Reproduction mode in steam vr doesn't help. In G2 turning down native resolution to 80% helps massively and doesn't effect picture noticeably enough to care..plus you can keep MSAA at x 4 with really helps get rid of shimmer/jaggies (highly recommended) Turn shadows to medium, terrain shadows off (you get used to it almost immediately) terrain textures to low (you wont notice trust me). Turn preload radius down to 4000 (it helps and you won't see a difference in game) Turn wake turbulence off in gameplay section as it uses a lot of comp power to work out wake for all aircraft. Don't use antialiasing as it just makes shit blurry and is labour intensive. (the MSAA setting works way better) Keep textures and cockpit resolution high as why play DCS if the plane looks pants!? Make sure you RAM has XMP profile (in bios or tuning app) on as you need all the speed you can get with RAM. Set reprojection mode to forced on in steam vr as it switching on and off will make you sick and have extra judders. OC your CPU a little if poss inc Cache a little. Keep forest details to max as it makes trees do weird distracting shit if you dont. Scenery details for me is 0.5 as it doesnt do distracting stuff at that level. Forest visibility is VERY labour intensive so have as low as you can stand, mines at 80% (trees popping up outa no where is crap). heat blur off (looks weird in VR) no SSAA SSLR SSAO on. no lens effects (pants in VR anyway) Water to low, helps a lot plus helps stop jaggies with rivers and streams (unless when you dogfight you look for little wave tops like a tourist?!) Civ traffic off. Resolution in dcs system page to a low setting as this is just the resolution it displays in that little window on your desktop (remember this is for VR people only). cockpit illumination off as its crap. no vsync . no rain droplets unless you really want it. Pretty sure you may want to argue against a lot of this as there's things you think you can't live with out but hey ho. Fire animations/smoke and anything running a script... like moving ground forces etc are gonna play a part that we can't avoid easily but this setup alowwed me to play steady on a MP sever on Channel map and Normandy map plus do carrier ops in an F14b and just about hold in there when things got hectic. One last thing if you use a targetting pod of any kind thats looking at an area with smoke, fire, ground forces etc you will enter the "flick book" zone.

Basically the cloud system has added some extra strain in fps, the new fire animation is brutal on fps and smoke is a killer too. Any MP with a lot of scripts running crushes your CPU. VR will NEVER be any good in DCS. The whole thing would need a redesign from the ground up as its clearly bloated and outdated. I love this game but their needs to be more focus on game engine refinement/overhaul or things will just get worse. If IL2 or War Thunder or some other new game suddenly shifts its focus to a more Sim style play, DCS will leak players very quickly. You want new players?! give them a new/exiting experience.... "Flight Simulator" in VR.... with ammunition/bombs etc!! It's ok having new modules etc but if its just the same experience over and over but in a slightly different aircraft skin... what's the pull for new players? Sitting in the cockpit in VR is amazing... till the FPS turns to crap I hear people say all the time that they've been thinking about VR a lot but they hear from other players how bad it is and they're just waiting for it to get better, how long till they get bored of the same ol thing over and over and just leave to find a different game? I genuinely think VR could save DCS from a slow death.

this was a bad game, turning the targeting pod on killed the frames big time, like 9 fps. dcs.log

My settings are hilariously bad for a 10900k and a 3090. I get better gameplay on every other vr game I play. I hear the clouds are even a server side thing, surely that'd take some load off of our own systems. I can run vr driving sims with like 300%ss and maxed out settings. DCS is literally perfect for vr as a lot of air forces are using it to train pilots but it's hideous.

Hi, getting a large drop in frames. was 45fps steady before, now 35 fps with artefact's on edges of plane wings and drops down to 20 fps in places. Seems to be bad every where. Clouds always look blurry (known issue) but they don't jitter too much if left on "standard". MSAA seems to work much better to eliminate jaggies though. 10900k, 3090, 32bg ram @ 3600. Reverb G2. dcs.log

(New info?)Shimmering trees etc. in VR
eUK Nibbler replied to TripRodriguez's topic in Virtual Reality
Tried hardcore Art Blakey... Still shimmering. -
Hi guys, just got my first vr with g2. Looks great on all other games but for some reason dcs is a shimmering mess and anything at distance is blurry, chances of spotting enemy at distance is zero! I have both wmr and steam vr set as close to native as possible but can't seem to get an even vaguely monitor quality picture. Surely it's not this crap in vr? It's like playing pilot wings on super nintendo ffs. Can get it to a steady 45fps (I guess reprojection) but why can we get a solid non shimmering pic? Puttingy face close to dials and they look amazing but sit back and its jagged and shimmery. What am I missing? 4k per eye but not even 1080p quality?!
-
Ah one problem, it won't show up in game!!

This looks fantastic. great work.

We could do with an update on whether this map is being worked on to make it run better. I have an i7 running at 4.6ghz 32gb ram and a oc 1080ti and still only get 24fps looking into urban areas close up. The Syria map runs beautifully and easily as detailed, what is the plan? Its clear that to use combined arms/ww2 asset packs in the urban areas adds another dimension to the game play but NO ONE IS PLAYING IT ON MULTIPLAYER!!. I payed good money for an all but useless map as even if i just wanted to fly around in the worlds most lonesome game of 1 v 0 it'd still run badly near built up areas. I understand that it can take time to sort but radio silence just makes us feel a bit ripped off.

A bit of easy common sense for a future update?

Ah but then it doesn't pass the anti cheat checks. -

Got it, it doesn't cover terrain specific kneeboards -

eUK Nibbler replied to eUK Nibbler's topic in DCS Core Wish List
No, it's to do with the naming of folders too. Plus how do we have kneeboards specific to a map, regardless of module? -
Would it be possible, in the next update or two, to have empty folders pre placed in dcs with the appropriate labels for each model and possibly map, so that we can place our own kneeboards without as much hastle as it is now? Just trying to get the exact name and file location for each model /map is actually a huge ball ache. It's not like pilot prepped kneeboards would be considered a cheat!? Seems like an easy update that would make so many of us very happy!
