Hi everyone, so I was able to find a brand new E8500 Retail packaging on ebay for about $158 dollars including shipping. And I purchased an ATI HD 5830 for $185 new as well. I'm upgrading from an E6750 and a Evga 9800GTX+. I'm awaiting both items. My question is will I notice a real difference in DCS: BS and LOFC2? :joystick:

I forgot about the forest fires in Russia, hope everyone is ok and glad HiJack was taken care of. At least we know it's not from global warming. :megalol:
-
That's a concerning trend that I don't like either.
-
 Really? It's a 3 year old rig sans the 9800GTX+ which I purchased 6 months ago. And I can OC the CPU to 3.0 GHZ.

I remember being able to play Lock On even at version 1.01 and no disk in the tray.

These guys are awesome and they'll take care of you. They just want to make sure you haven't given out your serial number or installed the game on someone else's computer or that your computer is triggering reactivations. If they determine that, they'll want to help you figure out why. IIRC someone from ED mentioned it costs the company money every time a new serial number is generated. But if it's just as simple as you activating, deactivating and running out of activations you'll find ED is very helpful, so don't worry. :)

That version has Star-Force?? I bought a similar version at GoGamer.com for like $5 and it came with IL-2 and the 1946 expansion. It never ask for the disk after installation.

I have a low end rig by today's standards E6750 CPU, 9800GTX+ and I can play and enjoy X-Plane on high settings. :)

I agree with Nate. There's no reason not to buy FC2 especially since it's so cheap. No piece of software will ever be 100% bug free. I bet Lock On and FC has more hidden bugs than you probably are aware of but you're still enjoying the sim. I bought FC2 Brand New on Ebay for $19.99, that's cheap.

Thanks, well, if all those planes come with the Iron Cross Edition then that's the better deal. :smartass:
-
How much do planes typically cost? :joystick:
-
I would like a clarification to that as well. If RoF and the Iron Cross Edition are basically the same with the exception of a few planes i'll buy the $14.90 version. I hope we can get an answer before the sale is over. :music_whistling:

I have a question. Gogamer.com has Rise of Flight on sale for $14.90 and ROF: Cross Iron Edition for $49.90 http://www.gogamer.com/searchresults.htm?keywords=rise+of+flight&categoryId=&x=0&y=0 If I purchased the $14.90 edition will it have missing games modes etc? I'm also concerned my PC may not handle ROF properly. :(

Agreed, and the OP is using an AMD Athlon x2 5000+ CPU. AMD is a nice CPU but I have found from experience because I have used both for gaming that an Intel C2D will yield better performance. So really KungFuCharlie makes a valid point that it may take more than just a video card to up the OP's performance although I do agree with EtherealN that the 8400GS is a weak card. I have it in my Dell Vostro 1500 and it's really a low end card for gaming. A 7900GT should perform much better and a 9800GTX+ even better.

Good points m8  I'm using a Lian-Li case with incredible ventilation. Oh and here's all the CPU's my motherboard supports including the Core™ 2 Extreme QX9770. I have an Enermax 500w PSU that seems to be solid, no phantom reboots or lockups. http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2599&ver=#anchor_os
-
Yeah that's what I would expect cause IINM the E8xxx CPU's are 45nm. This is the motherboard i'm using: GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128057

Crap wasn't Incoming a DiD game that you shot planes out of the sky with a HUGE cannon? That's what comes to mind, if so I still have a copy of Wargasm, fun fun fun game. :joystick:
-
Thanks m8, money is not a problem except I don't want to buy something that devs are not going to take advantage of and that may make my games play worse. I know the E8600 has a 10x multiplier though i'm not sure if the E8500 is the same. My E6750 has a 8x mult and with a stock fan it's running @ 3.00ghz and max temps are 65c and it idles @ 49c. Not too bad for a 65nm chip. :)

That's the card I was thinking of. :D
-
EtherealN, you're using the CPU I was thinking of upgrading to. I was pondering whether to get the E8500 or E8600. It's $100 difference between the two. I'm still not sold on Quad Core CPU's just yet for gaming. Most developers are still coming to grips with dual cord CPU's. What do you suggest????
-
Oh, what I was referring to is that in the past some cards were CPU clock dependent, the faster the CPU clock speed the faster the video card performed. But i'm going back to the 3Dfx/Riva cards back in the late 90's. I'm not sure if that applies to it today which is why I posed it as a question.
-
IINM aren't the Nvidia cards CPU clock dependent? I have a E6750 that I just overclocked to 3.00ghz and still testing it just to make sure it doesn't fry LOL.
-
A really, really good bang for the buck card is the one i'm currently using is the evga Nvidia 9800GTX+. I bought it at Newegg.com for $129.99 and recently it was on sale for $99.99 and is still a solid card. The card currently has a $30 off mfg. rebate so the card is only $104.99 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339&cm_re=9800gtx%2b-_-14-130-339-_-Product

How do I verify a Serial Number with Starforce?
Rodney replied to Rodney's topic in Payment and Activation
Well I received both Black Shark (New) and Flaming Cliffs 2 (New)from both ebay sellers. I used the Star-Force website and Flaming Cliffs 2 has 0/8 Activations. OTOH Black Shark has 1/8 Activations and was activated on 4/29/10 and it even includes the time of activation and IP address and HW configuration. I contacted the ebay seller for either an exchange or refund. I feel uneasy that whoever activated Black Shark prior to me receiving it today might have the serial number written down for future use. :(
