What's the Smooth slider set at (next to the TrackIRPro button we talked about earlier)? -
My track IR 5 is driving me crazy!!!

Are the red IR LEDs illuminated on the TrackIR base unit even with TrackClipPro selected? I had an issue where even though I selected TrackClipPro, they were still lighting up. This resulted in poor performance of TrackIR (reflections, maybe?). To fix, I pressed the TrackClip button, then back to TrackClipPro. LEDs out and it took care of the jittering for me. For me, the stuttering was another issue and it seemed to be related to WinWing's SIMAPP. -
Sorry to hear you broke a pin, Mobyflow. I bought the same adapter and mine seems to fit, although the metal shell (silver part with bosses inside) seems to fit tight around where it plugs into the base. There's really no way to set it on there loosely and "feel" for the bosses to line up before pushing it down. You just have to eyeball it and hope you have it lined up I guess. Regarding function, I'm using the WW16 grip and I seem to get ghost inputs with random buttons (trim, DMS, etc.) while the MOZA software is open in the background. I don't get these with either WH grip I have. If I close the MOZA panel, the FFB still seems to work fine and the ghost inputs go away. It holds the preset I was using when I closed the software. This is my first FFB base. I love flying helicopters, so I gotta say this is a game-changer. One note: When I use force trim interrupt in the OH-58D(R), releasing the switch always returns the force gradient to physically center the cyclic (like a traditional joystick with springs), vs resetting the center of the gradient to where I left the cyclic. TBH, as a real KW guy, I always just turned the switch off and only used force trim when I was on the ground anyway, in which case I wanted a centered cyclic. Not so much in the other helos I flew. Trim stayed on and I always got a permanent impression on my flight glove from holding the switch down while moving the cyclic. I also like the force-sensing mode of the built-in Viper preset. Overall, happy with the AB9, but it's got some growing to do on the software side.

Please close. I realized that I had the Super Hornet mod in addition to the 18C. I deleted that and did a repair, now my UFC is correct.
-
Is it right for this UFC to look like this? Looks like a single screen vs the multiple smaller displays. No mods installed for the F-18.

I appreciate your analogy. The 3D headset recommendation is great, but TBH half of my time flying the KW (and many other types) was with NVGs strapped to my head seeing the world through a 40 degree, Gatorade colored, 2D image. That's a pretty small cellar window if you ask me. I never got into VRS. I did demo the onset and recovery many times in the Agusta A109E. We had to go out of our way to get to where you could start feeling it. I mean to the point where you were asking yourself how you would get there in normal ops. The KW gets you the closest to a realistic helicopter FM IMO. It also frees you up to enjoy the other features of the aircraft and weapons systems. There's a Bell badge on this module. I'd be surprised if they didn't get a chop at the FM.

Not the M-134, but I think the folks over at Fulcrum Concepts had a contract to integrate the GAU-19, but then the Army retired the aircraft.

I can't speak to what happened after I left the community in July 1998 In 8 years flying the OH-58D/D(I), I never used or even had binos with me. I also never saw anyone else use them. Not to mention, binos would have been completely useless at night. Again, maybe they used them in COIN ops after I left, but in my mind looking through 7x glass bouncing around in the helicopter would not be effective. In DCS, I guess you could use the zoom view axis to "simulate" binos. That would capture the essence of using them and allow the developer to spend time on something like MPSMs or flechettes, which I am sure you will enjoy waaaaay more than binos...trust me.
-
You'd need a pilot vomit mode. Like you use the binoculars for a minute, then puke, then repeat. I do recall reading about stabilized binos, but never saw a set during my 8 years as an Aeroscout.

I only have about 2000 hours in the KW, but it seems true to life IMO. Great FM and the best I've seen yet on a DCS helicopter. Big thanks to PolyChop for not going down the ridiculous VRS path that other devs can't seem to get over. You don't fly around worrying about settling with power all the time. Second best model IMO. Only issue is the unrealistic VRS implementation.

ooops, talk about a party foul. Corrected.

In the very early days of the KW (1992ish), we did have the hook. It was part of the larger MPLH (Multi-Purpose Light Helicopter Package). When the aircraft were delivered I remember they did ship with them. It attached to the bottom of the aircraft with quick-release pins. I believe the release was a manually operated pull handle. I never flew with one because I don't think we had tasks developed for our Aircrew Training Manual. The litters were also envisioned to mount on the side of the aircraft in similar fashion. I never saw the litters or plank seats. Maybe off topic (sorry), but couple of other cool KW development footnotes... - The Prime Chance AH-58D could mount guns on both sides with ammo cans of 800 rounds. The right side ammo can blocked the refuel port, so it was not implemented in the production KW. -The larger can developed adverse airflow conditions over the horizontal stabilizer and once caused the left side stab to break off at the weaker folding hinges we had on the PC birds. Result: much beefier hinges on the KW and a smaller can with better aerodynamic profile (hence 500 rounds). - We often flew the AH-58D at 5500 lbs. IIRC, this was the initial design requirement for the KW, but during testing, autorotational performance was deemed unsafe above 5200 lbs. Perhaps they were planning on using the extra 300 lbs as useful load during the MPLH development? - We only had 6 waypoints available in the first CDS software. That changed pretty quickly though. I really enjoyed my time in the 58D. It remains my favorite aircraft of the many types I flew across 20 years, 2 military services, and the airlines. I'm so pumped about getting back in the KW! Thanks, POLYCHOP.

Thanks so much. I'll give it a try and report back.

Bumping this because I am getting tired of restarting DCS in single-monitor mode to play helicopters. What was wrong with the old display method?
-
The only time I ever flew with a PDU was Stinger shots in the Prime Chance aircraft. Since weapons were not directly integrated with the CDS in the PC birds, you couldn't shoot ATAS without it IIRC. It was not preferred otherwise because it represented a major injury hazard in the event of a crash. Edit: The PDU was day compatible (like any other HUD) and we did use it during daytime Stinger gunnery. It had settings for gun and rockets too.

Hey Max, When I have auto browse enabled, I do not need to use the "page" suffix. It seems to work just fine. Negative result is it goes back to first pin after any AI messages. When auto browse is disabled, saying page is the only way to get it to tab through and then it is unreliable. It does fix the going back to first pin, though. Summary... Auto On: Crew, ATC, Tanker, Anvil, Crystal Palace, Show notes, Show Log all function as stand-alone commands. Works great, has for years for me. Auto off: Will not work at all unless "page" is added. Often seems to be accepting a command before the "page" part is even spoken and produces spotty results.

When I uncheck auto browse, it seems to deactivate the ability to voice tab through the VAICOM functions like Crew, ATC, flight, crystal palace, etc.

dcs bug Problems with Mission 06
cgrxman replied to ENTER's topic in F/A-18C Raven One: Dominant Fury campaign
M06...Just got my gear collapsed by that Tomcat even though the chocks were out. This was after a restart because Cajun never pushed from WP1. Had to listen to the annoying gear unsafe warning until I just gave up and respawned. How about you just remove that offending F-14? I really think Mission 6 is a JDAM PP coordinate entry simulator. Way too frustrating. -
Only way I know of is to unpin/untab pages.
-
I remember that single incident well. Doesn't mean it should affect the current AH-64D AI. Are current ApacheLongbow CPGs not good at threat ID? Task 2413 Perform Actions on Contact...that's what I am saying. Scouts Out!
-
Any time I try to browse for files or folders (content or preferences), the program locks up and stops responding.
-
IMO, any qualified (RL1) CPG should be able to identify vehicle type. It would help if George called them out this way. Perhaps the list could show vehicle ID (BMP2, M-1) vs. generic TANK1, IFV etc?
