I like the way you explain it so us old folks can understand lol. Nice Thank you again!

From BS 1 to BS 2 odd behaviour in courier miz
aairon replied to aairon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Oh good I thought I was going nuts, it reminded me of a twilight zone episode where there was a monster on the wing of a aircraft trying to crash it lol. Yes he's incredibly strong and can rip the entire tail assembly off then you're pretty much stuck. I think maybe someone was hitting the vodka a little hard when that code got slapped in there. It's funny as hell though. It would be cool to have a monster appear on the wing of your A10 (in flight and intense battle of course) and start bashing the engines. -
From BS 1 to BS 2 odd behaviour in courier miz
aairon replied to aairon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ah thanks Reaper6 I don't think it's a fuel truck when I quickly switch to external view it looks like a guy quickly coming from the rear left side he walks up to the tail like it's in his way and keeps walking as he hits the tail the whole chopper turns and sparks counter clockwise about a quarter turn. it seems like if you watch too closely he busts off the tail completely. -
I have a degree in electrical engineering and have worked on marine electronics of all types for the last 35+ years and I had an issue some time back ( a year or so) where my computer was just shutting down while I was playing certain games that stressed both the cpu and gpu so I assumed the power supply was crapping out (engineering term) this went on for a couple of months DMM said voltage and current were within limits at the time of shutdown I wasn't going to put a O scope to it for that effort I could wait lol, sometimes it was blue screened and when that happened I used bluescreen viewer to read that it was a kernel failure or sum such meaning just about anything. I was too broke to justify spending money to play a couple of FPS games. Well time came when I decided I could justify it as it could get worse I went about shutting down and started to pull the plug (physically) and as I grasped the plug I found it barely plugged in it had been partially pulled out. So I'm thinking no friggin way that was the issue no friggin possible way. Well just for grins I plugged it in firmly and fired up the old box and hammered the crap out of it and it hasn't objected yet, Had someone asked me if I was sure it was plugged in good I'm afraid what I would have said. The reason for my surprise is that normally if that were the case there would have been many other failures and eventualy it should have lost connection completely after a couple of failures due to arcing and oxidation, I'm definitely am not saying your issue is anything like this other then sometimes the issues may not be so obvious.

A couple of questions about navigation
aairon replied to CheshireCat's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks for clearing that up Reaper6 Great info, IRL I work on all types of nav systems (All shipboard electronics for 35 years) on ships and large yachts and for me it's refreshing to see things explained clearly, P.S. I'm still seriously mystified by the guy at the start of the courier mission where he comes before you can start engines and whacks into your KA-50 tail. I'm not kidding it can't be just me. -
It makes me wonder I'm 2 missions into the deployment campaign I'll attempt to see if it's possible possible from within the sim to complete it. I stumbled upon this "fixed Deployment Campaign" here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1744245/ I have no idea if it will help your issue but I'm checking it out there is a very detailed description at that same link.

From BS 1 to BS 2 odd behaviour in courier miz
aairon replied to aairon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
well the engine shut down was because I was taking off with 10% fuel. The guy that comes at the very beginning is so utterly strange I guess I need to post it if no one knows what I'm talking about. I will look at the replay with NVG though because I don't recall ever hearing a fuel warning. Thanks to both of you. :-) -
Bug: Extra High GPU Activity During Pause
aairon replied to Worrazen's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Well Wader8 it looks like they couldn't understand you for some reason. I've had the same thing, Though I haven't tried alt tab in awhile, I'll check it out and check back. Update: yep it still runs the gpu temps up. P.S.that one suggestion seems akin to someone saying their throttle sticks wide open when they come to a stop, his response 'isn't that what a rev limiter is for'? rofl The other one.. well I think that was a stab at sarcasm which rarely works well across the interweb. -
Hello I've been out of this for years but decided to load DCS world and BS 2. I flew around a bit and then took off on the courier mission and all was well until I was descending to land at the car not a single worry and THEN BAM! Out go the lights (the BAM! was in my head) I hear the turbines spooling down and see the lights all blinking out so I try a auto rotate but didn't do well because I was confused as bat shit and dropping from only 1500 (in the dark) feet so I ejected and then I looked at the debreif and it said contour light failure a few times in a row and then eject and crash. So Wtf this 60 yo man is asking? I never experienced it in the old BS 1 and I searched here and googled. I can't imagine it cut my throttles or shut down the engines because I didn't have my landing lights on. EDIT: I checked the debrief and at the time of the incident I got a repeated message that just before eject there was a "Contour lights failure" I think I must be running out of fuel (mission overrides unlimited fuel selection?), checking now but totally different from the BS 1 courier Mission. I like BS 2, both engines now keep their sound + the AI seems way better, my own wing man isn't constantly trying to kill me. ;-) Also what's up with the guy at the mission beginning, who seems to be trying to break off the tail? YET Another EDIT: It was fuel but that still leaves the guy trying to rip the tail off and sometimes succeeding at the very beginning of the scenario before you can start engines??

I think perhaps you've been taking to many pills lol. Yes he did mention switching to win 7 or win 8 here Don't you even read the thread you're commenting on? Also get it into your head that we are talking about BlackShark here NOT BS 2. I have no idea why you're impressed that BlackShark will run properly on win 7 and vista Thousands of users have had no problems with it. So since he did indeed mention changing to win 7 or win 8 I consider that you haven't read this entire thread therefore the rest of your post will be ignored by myself. Unless you're willing to read the thread and then comment, you're not contributing to this in any way and I think you may be trolling. You guy's are pretty new (with the exception of Irregular programming) to computers (less then 15 years) and are simply quoting things you have read on the web and not really commenting from personal experience, I can also read things on the web and that MUST mean it's the truth if it's repeated many times on the web lol. If I sound bitter it's because I lose patience with folks who simply repeat what they read rather then confirm for themselves, the new generation of lemmings, I'll not follow you guy's off the cliff.:smilewink:

First of all I use a dual boot system and can boot into any other operating system I would like but I chose Vista 32 bit for many reasons. As you may have read I have been messing in this computer business for ~40 years and work as a marine electrical engineer. You are mistaken about KA50 only being able to use 2 GB ram in a 32 bit system, you can even read about it in these very forums there is a dos command to enable a full 3 GB ram to be utilized in my case that's ~ 3.4 GB. NO! WIN 7 ABSOLUTELY won't run games or SIMS (given all other things are equal) any smoother or "faster" then Vista, that is pure fantasy and I would love to see some empirical proof of that. In my opinion win 7 was the final answer to the issue with vista allowing the end user too much easy access to functions that 90% of user have no business touching. Since vista svc pk 2 vista runs perfect and gives me very easy access to features that most will never use and I won't even discuss the Ultra dummed down win 8 made for chimpanzees. Anyway in monitoring this program it has NEVER used more then 3 GB ram ever! I have logged it for hours and it's never run out of ram to the point that it had to start using Virtual Hard drive ram. I guess I need to find someone who's been around for awhile that remembers running Blackshark when it first updated to 1.0.2. Thanks for your time and effort though, No I won't be running win 8 EVER! I'm just glad I should be dead before Microsoft releases the next windoze which will involve using some sort of wii type controller and won't let you do anything that could ever possibly hurt your windows install all the buttons will be color coded and it will have to be usable by any creature that can walk on two legs however briefly. I am simply looking for a REAL suggestion as to what may be happening to cause the crash while viewing the ABRIS screen only. I have covered as much relevant info as I can think of, earlier in this post. So I'm sorry if you misunderstood what my issue is but I can assure you the SIM is not running short on Memory at least not CPU memory and to assure that the GPU memory was not the issue I reduced the cockpit rez to 512 which seems to make absolutely no difference in the pattern of crashing. Well I did run KA50 in win 7 64 bit and showing 6 GB ram and still getting the same random crash while viewing the ABRIS so unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the issue. I will eventually be changing to Vista 64 and then after will have to go to win 7 to retain compatibility, And I have figured out how to simply use the win 7 "GOD" mode to remove the MS straight jacket and retain some of the usefulness of vista. As I said before thank you very much for your time and suggestions.:smilewink: P.S. "BIT Network Admin" Doesn't impress anyone, why put it in your post? you're no Admin here, Oh and the bit about 32 bit not being able to use the full 4 GB ram in any version of windows should be common knowledge of any two year old, so please try to consider who you're addressing when you go back to those very child like first toddler steps with an old timer, I may be old but I'm not a total moron, and it seems that you have a bit to learn as you didn't even know about the 3/4 GB "switch" for CMD mode, for future reference the command is bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072, The 3072 is a base line, you can up the number to just under the actual value your particular system can actually use. There ya go you learned something new. OOp's I forgot to mention the PAE (Physical Address Extension) patch (you can google) which will let me use the entire 6GB on Vista 32 bit(x86) MS wanted to force the migration to 64 bit so they built limitations into the kernel. I use hardware for research and logging, that will never have 64 bit drivers.

Hello Thanks for the suggestion, I had Blackshark and Warthog installed on this comp before and when DCS world came out I installed it and it automatically recognized the Blackshark and warthog installs. But as I very rarely fly online I decided to dump World(I don't learn to fly better by flying with a bunch of kids online):smilewink:. I also suspected something along the lines of GPU over-temp and ran a logging program to follow the temps while running Blackshark and there were no issues, GPU never exceeded 57 C which is well within the parameters as I have run it up to 65C with no issues. I of course checked for dust etc.. I thought it might be the cockpit resolution setting so I reduced it to 512 and still crashes on occasion. I find it odd that using Modman to install any mod will crash it almost instantly when I view the abris more then a couple of times. Since this sim is very CPU dependent I also logged CPU temps and both cores running cool at 52C when Maxed out. It's very frustrating to run 90% of the scenario and then have it lock up while trying to navigate back to the FARP. Well I guess I'll just keep messing with it, as I said I that the first response to my post was a bit odd, I couldn't see that "not too many fellow forum users are using the original game anymore" blackshark or Warthog without also using DCS world. I'm starting to wonder if it's an issue with the on-board GPU RAM or CPU ram so I'm running prime to stress the CPU memory and also running the Nvidia utility to stress and test GPU RAM. This is absolutely the only software that exhibits this behavior on this machine (this doesn't automatically mean it's a software issue but rather the way my setup is dealing with it), I can run things that are fairly GPU intensive like Farcry 3 and the old crysis on High and some ultra high settings all day long, the GPU gets hotter with those then it does with Blackshark.By the way I'm running Vista ultimate svc pk 2 X86 6GB DDR2 ram at 1333 MHZ FSB (for compatibility issues) Since Svc pk 2 Vista is a very fine OS IMHO. (that is based on having been involved with software and computers LONG before there was any windows) Well thanks again for stepping in here Irregular programming I appreciate that you took the time. If I do eventually nail this down I'll post a solution here so that others can find it with the search function.

I have no idea what you mean by "stand alone install" I have my original DCS BlackShark along with the saved 1.0.2 Update Are you saying that the original BlackShark is no longer supported? And what do you mean by "not supported"? Are you saying that the forum members here will no longer help a fellow BlackShark pilot because he doesn't have BlackShark 2 the latest version? Is there some patch I need to install to upgrade to the latest for regular original blackshark to get help from fellow forum users? To be honest I have a hard time believing that the forum members are officially refusing to help members with issues with the original BlackShark, and of course any two year old understands that the official DCS Company may no longer support the original BlackShark. That's kinda why I posted here and not to DCS company support, I wouldn't want them to die from laughter

I have had this issue since a month ago when I reinstalled Black shark after a year of no use. I have also tried a clean reinstall last week. The problem seems to only occur when I try to focus on the ABRIS close up in cockpit view of course. It seems like the more I look at it the more likely it is to crash, the crash manifests itself by losing the video input to the monitor with the screen then going to sleep but sound remaining. Even though I can still hear the rotors, I can tell that the sim is frozen, in that the controls don't change the sound can't crash the chopper etc.., just the constant rotor sound repeating. I am using the latest Nvidia driver for this card. CPU Intel DUO Core E7400 clocked to 3.7 GHZ(yes I tried to run it with the clock set back to stock 2.8 with the same results). Graphics card is a Nvidia GTS-250. I thought at first it was caused by using Modman and running a couple of mods because it crashed every time, so I uninstalled blackshark and reinstalled it without anything other then the 1.02 update and I thought the issue had gone away as I was able to complete a couple of missions while repeatedly viewing the ABRIS, but it just happened again. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I know that there have been other posts like this but not exactly. I'm running vista x86 svc pk2 and a gts-250 gfx card I don't recall having this issue before but this is a completely new install. When flying in campaigns I am now getting a crash to black screen and still have sound but I can also tell that the game is frozen as the controls have no effect for example gear down I should hear that, also change collective has no effect on sound. It seems to happen most when changing views from external camera to cockpit to look at the abris. I get no error reports other then 'windows shut down unexpectedly' because that's the only way to get out of the black screen, by holding the power button for a few seconds, the reset button seems to act normal except that the screen remains black throughout the reboot and never comes back only a hard reset by holding the power button fixes it. Obviously it's not heat related but seems to have some other cause. I run much newer games that stress both the GPU and CPU to a much greater extent then black shark does and have no issues there. this is the only program that does this on my computer. Any clues will be much appreciated.

+1 for the proper use of a made up word brokenness Lol JK but it does fit.

Ahh yes I fully agree that melding this flight sim with the ultra realistic crysis would undoubtedly be a huge improvement as far as realism is concerned. Being a war vet I can remember clearly the alien threat we faced as ground soldiers. The M-16's just weren't effective against the huge flying octopus monsters. Odd how this info was cleverly kept from the public all these years. I fully agree we need more of these "realistic" sims. :megalol:

feature lol, that is a diplomatic response

I'm not sure if English is your first language, but I completely understood what he was doing by his words and the files that were spoken of. If you're having a hard time understanding, you can try Google translate to translate these English posts into whatever language you normally speak. Thank you to the OP for a very good job!

You are saying the program has a randomizer built into it that will allow it to be installed at one time and then not installed the exact same way another time? B.S. You are so full of it you do this same stuff in your entire post history. You will NEVER ADMIT that you were doing something wrong and one of the posters mentioned something that solved your issue. You have posted this exact same type of rant and Never once in any of your posts do you admit that you discovered that you were F'ing UP. Now go fly that thing on line while I pray that I find you as Prey!:megalol: I never did think it was your "setup"/equipment, I always thought it was operator error 100%

I very much doubt that it will work, but it's getting fun watching you lose your cool. You seem to keep doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Here is the path to my Launcher.exe D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\x86\stable I couldn't even imagine how naming one of those directories to "aaa" would allow anything to work any better. The patch 1.02 creates a very new Sim it's more like installing a completely new version of the Sim. A lot of weird things you may have gotten away with when using v 1.00 or v 1.01 may no longer apply, and no DEV in the world could anticipate all of those weird unconventional things. Many threads here discuss how installing to desktop got it going. I fully expect you to tell us all how you are going to demand a refund just like you did with FC2, YES I DID read many of your past posts and I wouldn't talk to you this way if I hadn't done that I would just assume you're having a bad day. But in reading your many past posts I can see that you are a HOT HEAD who thinks that a Developer should be on here catering to all of your personal needs. Good luck and Good riddance.:pilotfly: P.S. when it gets completely unbearable try slamming your forehead into your touchbuddy screen while booting up.

opinions? - installation questions / touchbuddy / OS
aairon replied to driver7408's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If your only going to run 4 Gb of ram then there would be little point in going to a 64 bit os, but each to his own. As far as XP VS Vista I quick search tells me what I already know and that is that Vista and Win 7 will get you better performance. it has something to do with their ability to use Processor Core Affinity. You can search on it and find far more useful info. I run DCS Black Shark on it's own Hard drive with no problems, but since I have done no proper testing I can only give anecdotal opinion. Of course I like to think it works better I am fairly certain that it doesn't hurt and I had the extra drive there already. As far as multi-monitor setups There are many extensive threads here on that subject, it seems all agree that is the only point where a better graphics card seems to be very important. As you know this is a CPU bound sim, very much like fsx and it can't take advantage of more then two cores so a duo core @ 3.6 Ghz would very likely give you the same frame rate as a quad @ 3.6 Ghz. -
You do know that you can't start the program from the Launcher.exe. I suspect that your unconventional install may be part of your problem, whenever I do an install of anything into unconventional (default) directories /drives etc, and find I am having problems, the very first thing I do, is backtrack and reinstall exactly the way the program wants to be installed. I also assume that if I'm having a problem and the forums aren't FLOODED with a similar problem, then obviously I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG! Otherwise there would be hundreds of posts about the exact issue I'm having. Now when I determine that I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG I definitely don't go onto a forum with a super demanding attitude and start telling folks how there forum needs to be reorganized, UNTIL I FIX MY OWN ISSUES!.

Since it seems to be common knowledge, I would say you are right, you are Good luck on your further endeavors.:megalol: You have a serious problem with some setting, probably bios!
