using my current xp install in win7 64bit?
aairon replied to a1adin's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yep you do indeed have a serious issue with your setup. I think the ONLY explanation would be that you are running a single core processor. That is the only possible way a system running XP could out perform a system using Vista, or win 7 for that matter in THIS SIM WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE, BLACK SHARK!. I don't normally run win 7 in any form, as I constantly am in need of very quick access to things that are not supposed to be easily accessible in win 7. When folks start dragging things like this (same with ARMA2, FSX and X-Plane) into a discussion About another a completely diffrent program, it only makes me wonder about validity of the arguement. ARMA2 has proved to be written to take advantage of more then two cores, and the win 6.xx kernel. While Fsx will be much happier with a super fast single or dual core, AND XP! then an average quad core, Or the win 6.xx kernel(vista/win 7), as it really has no idea those cores exists. It's been some time since I even ran X-Plane so I can't give an opinion on that. You seem to be attempting to make an apple and orange slushy. You really do have something that needs to be addressed with your system UNLESS you are running a SINGLE core at very high clock speeds (3.6 Ghz or faster). I see that you aren't doing that, so I reiterate you have some setting really screwed up..:) Hey if you're happy that way Great, it's your thing lol. -
using my current xp install in win7 64bit?

You have a very serious problem if XP is running either of these sims at a better frame rate then you can get with vista or win 7. Read a little (in these forums) and you will quickly understand why both of these sims will have far better frame rates when run within the Vista or Win 7 OS. To the OP: Is there some reason you are going with win 7 64 bit? 32 bit is far more compatible as far as drivers are concerned, and if you are not going to run more then 4 Gb of ram there is absolutely no point, 64 bit is NOT any faster. There is so much misinformation about these operating systems, it never fails to amaze me how folks don't bother to do a little research, and would rather listen to anecdotal information, from sources no better informed then themselves. Win 7 uses the same Kernel as Vista svc pk2 (Vista is Windows 6.0. Win7 is Windows 6.1) and is no faster, nor is it any "lighter" on the system. Chris Flores of the Windows Client Communications Team explains "Contrary to some speculation, Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7. Rather, we are refining the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista," Win 7 is basically a "Dummed down" Version of Vista. The GUI was simplfied and changed to hide many things from the average computer light weight, I think it's great, because they have less tendency to get themselves into trouble with it (less buttons to push to mess it up). Both win 7 and vista OS's use more ram then XP, but they use it much more wisely then XP can, so the end result is a faster machine overall. This is always the case with windows, back when XP came out everyone was screaming to the high heavens about how horrible it was, and how much huge amount of ram it consumed, and how much slower it was, how many bugs it had, etc.. etc.. etc.. then win 98 SE. It's time to bury XP and give it an honorable memorial.;) -
Ka-50 or the thread? :smilewink:

You are a god send I am just off a mission and I am learning old bad habits about tossing this thing sideways and listening to the warning alerts but I am able to throw it around and get some major hits, after wTCHING THE VIDEOS i CAN SEE HOW THIS IS BOTH A DELICATE MACHINE AND IT'S A SLEDGE HAMMER. THOSE WHO DOUBT IS AS BEING INSIGNIFICANT IN ANY CONFLICT HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE WRONG SIDE .

Most forums discourage posting of sites which attempt to undermine the intent of the main "mother" site. Are you trying to shove this thing down our gullets Boomer? If so SHAME ON YOU! BOOMER!

Is there some reason we can't link this to this site ? without having to go elsewhere?:)

This is the Achilles heal of all military ops right now , we see it in the papers every day. how innocent civilians were slaughtered, It is what is keeping drones from fighting the entire conflict (name conflict here) on autonomous mode they would go out and kill your buddies. This is one way that a simulator may actually save a couple of lives.;)

The only solution as I see it is to combine all of them into a big virtual world, the possibilities boggle the mind. :lol:The things running through my imagination just thinking about the possible scenarios:megalol: Wacha gunna do drivin that F40 with a Ka-50 hot on your tail?

Well you do make a couple of very good points, So let's all enjoy this stuff for what it is. I guess I need to see what's required in regards to hardware, I suppose a steering wheel with shifting levers etc..? Also I think the racing stuff requires a different level of reflexive response and is better suited to younger folks as is reflected IRL. May not be so good for us older folks lol.

That's a huge compliment to them, I don't have a steering wheel nor gas and brake peddles (I guess I could use rudder peddles lol) but I would need a steering wheel for sure to check it out properly. Another thing on my wish list:cry:

So I guess we could safely agree that iracing is to other car "Sims" what DCS BS is to other flight "Sims"

The guy who handed my friend the disk was a guy named Bruce Artwick. He was a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, (this is why all early MS flight sims had Miegs field(destroyed, and now a park) as the default) He had a small company and wanted to sell the program to Bill G, But at the Time Bill G was working on getting the first DOS out. He later hooked up with Bruce who named his company SubLogic. There was no microsoft back then, I'm not exactly sure when they got the name. This was at the time that rights to software were being sold for under $10,000, I would guess had Bill jumped on it early he could have gotten the right to FS for a few thousand if that much.

So how often is it that you fly your Cessna 172 in combat? could you post a video?. And I know everyone likes the crazy car driving games but IRL how many times are your fellow racers trying to shoot you with cannon and Missiles?

In 1980 I was working for a japanese electronics company, they made ham radio equipment at the time, but now much more, (ICOM America) in bellevue, Washington, About five miles from where Microsoft headquarters is now. The Radio Shack trs-80 had been out for a couple of years, and one of the other techs at work bought his in to play with and show off. We were working on a project that needed a 2716 EPROM to be programmed, and heard of some guys who had a programmer down the road. They were in a small office suite about 800 sq ft max one of those guys was a Kid named Bill Gates. Anyway they burned the info into the EPROM for us and it needed changing often, so the guy who happened to own the trs-80 was the one who kept taking it to them, this is when we erased it with a uv light. He was always coming back and telling me that these guys were making programs, and one day around late 80 or early 81, he came back with a 5 1/4 floppy and plugged it in, and told me that it would knock my socks off. It was the first version of what was to become MS flight simulator, you had to have a very good imagination to see anything that resembles a runway, but at that time the big thing that impressed us was the fact that it modeled a real aircraft. Little did we imagine what would transpire over these years. It's funny to even think about what we would have said had someone come along and told us that we could do what we are doing with a desk top computer today. Well I hope my little story doesn't bore you to death, lol listening to old folks.

You say you're not trying to recruit yet you want to send me to a recruiting page without letting me into your forums? Sorry but that doesn't fly with me.
-
I guess that explains what I at first thought was a slightly rude comment, I now better understand. I will not join anything that has a registration page and then won't let me register lol. Very weird to me, As the other poster said best of luck to you. I have no idea now what your post is about, you can't be serious about recruiting people lol.

What browser do you use? I will try IE now.

Please accept my apologies, I guess I missed the part where we were discussing FSX and Cessna 172's. I suppose I need to get this old mind in gear and read the thread more thoroughly.

They have to be genius bombs?

Not any point in going there if the registration is broken. Please come back when you folks get it fixed, I would be interested to see the site.;)

This one's Dead out of the box lol, Ed Macy didn't get a paid endorsement. Look into the endorsement deal that those two got for their "approval" it is very well known, you can even find it by googling even. Although they admit to being paid they will not divulge the amount. I won't even to waste both our time attempting to explain how the physics for your 'GAME' are very simple relative to what takes place in this SIM, It has already been explained many times, and you just can't understand it. Once again we are comparing turds to apples.:pilotfly:

I like this convo/debate a lot better:lol:

I'm 50 something so my attention span is pretty long compared to the youngsters now days . I can actually go 5 seconds without seeing body parts flying and not fall asleep:lol:. I for one will be very happy with anything you post, I think for us "noobs" it helps a lot when seeing it in real time because alot of what seems like a given to the experienced pilots is lost on us. I know that I was lost a couple of times watching the compressed video. Regardless of anything, Thank you very much for all of the help you are giving us new Black Shark rookies!
