Damned secretive Russians. Don’t they know they’re ruining a potentially great module? Mi-28 would be pretty sweet too… so that’s two great modules all because of their trust issues!!
-
has the 52 been upgraded significantly since it’s introduction? Would an older iteration get past the laws?
-
Has the implementation of the Mi-24P's Petrovich AI crewman, and the liklihood of a similar, if not improved version for the AH-64D module, combined with the vast amount of work already put into Ka-50 models, sparked interest in developing the Ka-52? I'm sure I'm not alone in being very keen for this model to be in DCS. I love the Black Shark, but it's limited use by the Russians takes away from the module somewhat, where as the Ka-52 has been more widely adopted. Or would the issues with the recent laws on modelling current Russian equipment in games like DCS be too limiting?

Nevermind, I noticed the other thread. Thanks again. -
SSDs. Implementation of new ones.

Thanks for the responses guys. And thanks Noruas, you've probably cost me a couple of hundred dollars this weekend! haha Is there any reason you'd go for SATA III or M.2 specifically for DCS? Or is it about much of a muchness in any practical sense? -
G'day lads. If I were to buy a new SSD for DCS to live on, what would be the considerations I need to make when doing so? Since it would be very easy to connect an external device via USB to my PC I'm guessing that is in some way unsatisfactory, and there is a much better, more expensive, more fiddly way to do it properly. Can anyone enlighten me? Currently have an SSD of 200GB or so that the OS is on, and a 1TB HDD. Looking to get a 1TB SSD for DCS. Would this give any significant performance improvements? I fly exclusively in VR. System as follows: i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz, 32Gb RAM, Nvidia, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, HP Reverb G2.

To you clever blokes out there. I have a i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz, But I notice that a lot of guys are in the 4 and 5 Ghz range. I fly mainly in VR, and I've been having serious issues with frames lately. I was under the impression that this was a reasonably good "gaming" processor when I bought it a year ago. Is it crap? Specs are: i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz, 32Gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super, HP Reverb G2. EDIT: Apparently the i7-9700F has a "Turbo boost" of 4.7Ghz that kicks in when gaming etc.

Just adding my voice to the masses. I fly VR exclusively. Seems to go okay in SP, but multiplayer I get below 10fps sometimes. I can change aircraft after being in the Hind and it recovers, but if I go from a different aircraft to the Hind it's terrible. Hind usually runs okay for a bit and then the frames drop. Again, doesn't happen for any other module that I've noticed, unless I've flown the Hind without a restart. Never fly with more than about 15 other players, much more often with less than 10 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700F CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz, 32Gb RAM, Nvidia, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, HP Reverb G2.

Should still work, beaming will work in the same way, so being down in the clutter should only help really. You don’t have the slipstream to disperse the chaff, but you have a great big fan! Also don’t forget the prophylactic effects! Popping some chaff at the top of a bump attack if there’s radar SAMs around may make getting a solution take that little bit longer so you can get your shot off and get back down low.

Only poverty is keeping me in the fight!

you are not alone brother!

That worked for me too. Pilot one wouldn’t work, but the other one did (from the pilot seat) It’s just called “Launch Snars” in the controls menu.

Would be a great idea. For me it’s that the current Petrovich reticle looks very sci-fi, and in VR it throws me out of the suspension of disbelief. I’d like something minimalist, a dot ideally, one that can be semi-transparent, so I can still direct Petrovich but don’t have a large digital display in the middle of my vision.

@Alpenwolf just a couple of helicopter related things. I’m not sure if this is still current, but last I checked in Two Towns Hueys can’t pick ip troops at the FARP. Just comes up with “You are not in a loading zone”. Red helicopters work fine. troop numbers. Is there a way we can have it so the Mi-8 can take more than one standard squad (six men) To make up the capacity of the transport. Same with Huey. Can the limit be what the helicopter can lift rather than just one single squad. also, is there any chance MANPADs could be changed from a crate to an infantry unit? It seems like a more natural fit. Or is this in place as more of a balance thing? love the server mate. You do a great job, and these are humble requests and FYIs, not demands. Thanks for all you do for us.

Loving the module, but I’d like to see a version of the rear cockpit Petrovich reticle as a dot or something similarly unobtrusive. I find the current one a bit busy, but obviously something is required to direct the operator onto targets. An option in the Special menu to change to a low vis version would be great.

Question concerning realistic use of anti-torque
Grievo replied to TheCrysinator's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
this is due to the fact that you require a lot more power to hover than to maintain straight and level flight. once a helicopter is travelling over a certain speed, 15-20 knots, the airflow through the rotor disk is much cleaner and more efficient, so maintaining height requires less power, when you apply less power there is less torque acting on the airframe, so, in the hind, the nose wants to swing right, and you need to compensate with left pedal to remain in balance. -
Question concerning realistic use of anti-torque
Grievo replied to TheCrysinator's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
generally speaking, In forward flight you use anti-torque to keep the aircraft in balance, so keeping your balance ball, located under the Artificial Horizon, in the middle. You may get some drift that can be corrected with cyclic, especially at slower speeds. when flying you have HEADING, which is the direction your aircraft is pointing, and TRACK, which is the actual direction of travel over the earth, unless there is no wind, or you are heading directly into or away from the wind, these two directions are very rarely the same. so, you use anti torque to fly in balance, and adjust your heading to compensate for any drift to achieve your desired track. I hope that’s not too confusing! -
pretty much agree with all of that. I think the FM is fantastic, and for me is very believable for a hind. Very fast and stable, but take liberties or get too jam fisted and she’ll bite you. I haven’t even attempted hovering ATGM attacks, but very impressed with the aircraft as a stable gun and rocket platform. The weapons system is reasonably intuitive, and Petrovich is about perfectly imagined for what I want out of him, which Is a moderately competent AI front seater. on the stuff side, the two training missions are adequate, but Wags YouTube videos have been a godsend too. Not too concerned about this though as I’m confident ED will fill this out nicely before the module is out of early access. overall, love the module and think ED has done an amazing job, and it’s not even finished yet!

I was referring to once it’s trimmed correctly. personally the first thing I do in the Ka-50 is turn the Flight Director on (off? The light comes on!) because I’m more comfortable flying it like a normal helicopter. I wonder if there’s anything in it being tricky BECAUSE it’s so similar to the Mi-8, in that it behaves very nearly the same, so your muscle memory instincts lead you astray when it doesn’t. Pure speculation obviously.
-
I think it’s harder than the Ka-50 because of the Kamov’s stabilised flight controls, and the fact it’s a coaxial, so there’s less going on in terms of torque, tail rotor drift etc. it’s harder than the Hip, or even the Huey, because of the restricted vision from the pilot seat. A stable hover is massively reliant on peripheral vision, and the Hip and the Huey are glass houses by comparison to the Hind, which has almost no downward visibility in the hover. it’s fun though. Approaches to a pad are interesting, and my best solution is a curving, crabbing approach.

the first time I fired up the Hind on the Caucasus free flight it was unplayable. Literally probably less than 10 frames a second. But once I restarted the computer and played some of the other instant actions and the training it went okay. The last mission I tried to fly last night (after two or three before it, and it was really bad again. But I think you’re right. It’ll be tweaked and get better.

Have you inverted the axis? Or assigned it to the correct controller? when I first use a module, I often have axis assigned to multiple controllers, so if i touch the toe brakes it reads that as full left roll etc.
