I tried the setting recommended here and got very good results. In the training missions in both the Persian Gulf & Syria I was averaging between 36 & 42 FPS and it was butter smooth. So thank you for posting them here. I think having extra RAM onboard helps a lot as well. DCS runs much faster since I upgraded from 64G to 128G DDR4 at 3600. I thought of going to DDR5 but it’s just too expensive right now. Not sure if there’s much of a difference between the two. Any way thanks for posting your settings here. I hope it helps others as well.

No I think each module offers different experiences. The Hind is still a lot of fun to fly & is great if you want to play on the Red side of scenarios! The Gazelle is very good for scout missions & would be great if people got together to do it right! Have a few Gazelles or even the KA50 scout out ahead and send coordinates etc back to the AH64’s to bring the big guns! I still enjoy flying the KA50 & for me is very easy to fly. So I’m liking each module for the things they are good at. im still trying to learn the Apache. I think my problem is my setup & just need to tweak it to work better in VR.

So far it’s been pretty smooth on my system with a RTX3090 and 128G RAM with a G2 headset. I’ll have to see if the settings posted here make any improvements. I have not tried it online or in a beefy mission. Most of the flying is just small scenarios to get used to it. I do find this helicopter harder to fly than the Hind or Huey. I’m starting to get used to the trim and all but it’s going to take some practice for sure! To me it feels under powered when you have rockets & Hellfire missiles onboard. It could be I’m not used to it but I’m having a heck of a time hovering. Also this whole VRS thing I feel is over done in almost all the helos. in my opinion. The additions to the Syria map are really nice. It’s nice to have more options to fly from & make missions. I took the F16 up yesterday and flew all over the new areas and they added a heck of a lot! I haven’t tried the Apache on any of the other maps yet but I’m curious if the other maps besides the Marianas gives a boost in performance? Thanks for posting your settings. I’ll give those a go later tonight.

Thank you! I didn't even know that button was down there!! Definitely fixed the issue!! Thank you

Hey Thank you! So I did the LUA thing and it seemed to fix the items not showing up on the map in the ME or they show up in the SIM now. The only thing that seems a bit off is when I select the USA or Russia etc ALL the planes aren't showing up, even the purchased modules that I own like the F14 or Mirage etc/ Some do but others do not. Any Ideas? I also Disabled ALL the MODs I installed. I will put them back one at a time. Thanks, E

Hello, I’m hoping someone can help me with a couple of things I’m having issues with. The first is when I’m in the ME & select add static template under the Russian category I used to have multiple SAMs I could select from. I deleted one by accident & now none of them show up any more no matter what I do. Is there a way to get these back? I’d hate to have to reinstall everything. Also, I’m not sure if this is related but in the instant action for any Navel aircraft, the ships are missing when I go into the actual mission to fly it. For instance in the CAT1 landing or even a take off instant action the plane will fall into the ocean because there’s no ship! Last, when I select a vehicle in the mission editor it shows it on the map wherever I place it but then they won’t show up in the mission! I go out of the mission & back into the editor & they show up on the map again. No matter what I do I can’t get them to show in the actual mission. I’m so confused. The only MODs I have installed are the A4, Gripen & a couple of other aircraft MODs, not much else except aircraft liveries & some missions I’ve downloaded fm the DCS website. Also, I’ve tried the repair DCS program & it didn’t make a difference. This is on the Open beta latest released build. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m really hoping I don’t have to reinstall since it takes forever to download all the theaters & aircraft etc. Thank you, E

Question on Directory and Folders for multiple installs
Ebphoto replied to Ebphoto's topic in DCS Modding
Awsome! The video is great. Thanks for the help. Its a little confusing the way it works. The one on the C drive where Windows is installed is a 1T drive and it seeing all the MODs etc just fine. The other newer install is on my second SSD and has 2T but its not seeing the Liveries or MODs etc. So I just want to make sure its all working as it should. This will help greatly and thank you for the reply. This community of DCS Virtual Pilots is just the best bunch of people EVER! Everyone is so dedicated and into this wonderful bit of Code called DCS and its refreshing to see people helping out instead of the constant bashing and negative comments etc you see on other platforms like Twitter etc. So again Thank you!!! Question on Directory and Folders for multiple installs
Ebphoto replied to Ebphoto's topic in DCS Modding
Thank you so much for getting back to me! Makes a lot of sense and I didn't know about the switch -W Cool stuff thanks. As far as MIOD managers what do you think is a good one to use? I'm not familiar with any since I've never needed one before? Thanks. E -
Hello, I recently purchased a new desktop and installed a few SSD's that I had. So I installed DCS beta on the main M.2 SSD and then I wanted to install another on a bigger drive. So the question I have is will they both look to the C:\users\name\savedgames\DCSopenbeta Directory or can I have the new installation look somewhere else? That way I can have a clean version with no MODS for multiplayer and another version that has MODS for playing single player etc? Right now it doesnt seem like the second installation on the larger drive is seeing the MODS that the other installed version is seeing, so not sure how this works. Thanks in advance for any help or assistance, I really appreciate it!! E

I agree I think the future of VR in general is very promising. I think the headsets will continue to improve, get smaller & cost less. I have a Quest 2 & it’s super easy to setup etc. However, I find the image quality in DCS is somewhat lacking. Fuzzy instruments. I also find it heavy to wear & it bother my forehead after 15 minutes or so of wearing it. The Reverb G2 I can wear for hours without a problem & the image quality is better. Not great but better than the Q2 in my opinion. I’m sure there’s some tweaks or third party software that can help, I just don’t know of any. im excited to try the desktop machine w the RTX 3090! Even though it’s a prebuilt machine I’m hoping it will be a improvement. I fly laying in the bed propped up with pillows behind me. VR is a little harder to check six & reach some of the switches but the immersion of sitting in the jet or helo is just so cool. I’m a private pilot and I cannot fly anymore due to my back pain & all the meds I’m on now. So VR has really made me feel like I’m flying again. I haven’t tried it in MSFS 2020 because it’s such a huge download etc. but I might try it out on the desktop. I really do appreciate your help. If you ever fly online or need a wingman, give me a shout & we can hook up! I’d love to try VR online with someone. I can fly much better in VR than Track IR as far as formation etc. Thanks again. E

How important is a pair of rudder pedals
Ebphoto replied to foxonefoxtwo's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I’m sure rudder pedals would make a huge improvement! I use a Virpil Constellation stick with twist & it works pretty well. I also have the rudder trim selected in the options & that helps a lot! The twist isn’t the greatest way to fly but it does work. I don’t have the option to have rudder pedals since I fly laying down on the bed. Can’t sit due to back issues so the twist joystick is the only way I can fly! I think rudder pedals would be awesome and a huge improvement! Just my 2 cents worth! -
[Noob Question] Cannot fire rockets
Ebphoto replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I had the same exact problem the other day with Outboard gunpods on the inner most pylons then Rockets and Guided rockets on the outward most pylon and the unguided rockets wouldn’t fire! Very frustrating when your running in and expecting to launch all hell and fury, then it doesn’t work. Got me shot down! So good to know the config won’t work. Thanks for the info, I’ll stick to the prebuilt load outs fm now on! -
Yeah I have something close to that one with a few fans in it. I’ll look into that one if it blows more air. I bit the bullet and ordered a desktop from CUK/ MSI with a RTX 3090 in it. I’ll see if it runs VR any better or more than the laptop that worth getting it. If it’s not I’ll return it. I thought about building my own but decided to just do a prebuilt with warranty etc! It’s a MSI desktop. I’ve always had good results with MSI in the past. The only problem I’ve ever had is the VR connection to the laptop. Oh btw that port I’ve been trying to get the G2 to run on works fine with the Quest2 VR headset. So really strange that it won’t work with the G2. The nice thing about the desktop is it comes with display port! So I’m hoping this will be good. I’ll let you know! Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback! I’ve been running it on the Gigabyte laptop and it’s working pretty well. I’ll look into the adapters! I did try the adapters I have on the Gigabyte laptop and they all worked with the G2 no problem! So that makes me think it’s the MSI laptop. Hey just curious, do you think it’s okay to run VR on these laptops? They do heat up a lot! I’m just concerned that it might make them burn out over time. I do have a good laptop fan going underneath & the internal fans are blowing like crazy! I’m just concerned it might be too much even though they say VR ready, Thoughts? thanks again! I’ll look into the adapters. Oh btw what laptop are you using now?
-
Yeah I’m not getting a connection error. I’m only getting good video in my right eye, the left is black & white vertical lines. It’s really strange. I haven’t tried the display port to usb-c to another adapter to USB-c to reg USB. Not sure if that would even work but I’ll try it out. I think it’s a problem with the laptop, not sure. I’ve tried just about everything I can think of. I’ve uninstalled the drivers etc & reinstalled & get the exact same problem. If it didn’t work on my other laptop I’d say it was the adapters but it does work & no problems on the Gigabyte laptop. I’m only having this issue on the MSI GS-76 laptop. It seems to run DCS a little better. The Gygabyte laptop seems to be working a little harder to allow the VR. It does get a little hot! I have a fan underneath to help push airflow & the internal fans are at full speed. I’ll probably byte the bullet & purchase a desktop machine that will have a display port & hopefully a RTX-3090. Not sure yet if I want to spend the money just to run DCS. Crazy what we do for fun huh?

Thanks you for answering. I’ve since tried a new adapter with the same results. I get good video in the right eye & black & white vertical squiggly lines in the left. I’ve tried plugging the USB C into a regular USB port with the adapter that came with the G2 same results. So I tried the adapter on my other laptop. It has a RTX 3080 as well but with 8G instead of the 16G in the MSI. The Gigabyte laptop has a mini display port so I know it works. Instead of plugging it into the display port I used the adapter & plugged it into a USB C port & the G2 worked flawlessly. So that just means the MSI laptop won’t work or something is wrong with it. I will try contacting MSI and see if they have a fix. I’ve never used their customer support so I’m hoping it’s an easy thing to do! Frustrating to say the least but I’m glad the adapters seem to work well. I’ve also thought of buying a desktop tower & going that route. My problem is I hv metal rods & screws in my spine & also a stimulator implant to help with pain, so I have to fly DCS laying down on my bed since I cannot sit for very long comfortably. It really sucks but I thought maybe if I put a desktop unit close I can run the cables to the bed & see how it work. I’ve been using Track IR for a long time & it works great. I made the mistake of trying out VR & was pleasantly surprised with the results & now it’s hard to go back to Track IR! It’s just so cool feeling like your actually in the cockpit vs 2D. Anyway thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it! If anyone thinks of anything else please let me know & I’ll try it out. I do think it’s the MSI laptop & hopefully MSI will have a fix!

So I have a MSI GS76 with 4K video with no Display port, only a USB C that is ‘connected’ to the graphics card. Works well with my Oculas Quest2 headset but I find that headset heavy & uncomfortable! When I try to connect to the Reverb G2 headset with a Cable Works Display port to USB C adaptor, I get video in the right eye but Black & white vertical squiggly lines in the left eye! HP has sent a new cable in the hopes it would help but it doesn’t & I get the same problem. When I try a different adapter I get a connection error 4. I have another adapter that’s been recommended on YouTube coming later in the week. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas as to what’s causing it? I’ve downloaded the latest drivers etc. I’m running Windows 10 64 bit, 64G memory & a RTX3080 graphics card. I know the port works because it works with the Quest2 link just fine I just find the Quest 2 uncomfortable & heavy plus it’s not as clear or the sweet spots smaller. It’s probably a setting or maybe this adapter is bad I don’t know. The adapter is supposed to be 8K & 4K resolution compatible. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Also I know the G2 works because I’ve used it on a different laptop that’s not as good & it works. Thanks…

Great explanation! Thanks for posting this since it’s all a little confusing.

I finally got it working! I unselected the hand controllers and that was it. You’d think it would allow you to use both but I guess not. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it! I just purchased the Leap hand camera & will see if that makes things easier. I’m hoping it’s easy and works well. Thanks again!

I know some people that play DCS like to go all out & do a military type of approach flying trainers first & getting checked off etc., that said, I don’t agree with this approach at least for me. I think It ruins the fun! I served in the USCG & don’t want to “serve” again in a game! To me that just ruins the fun factor! I’m a private pilot as well so I understand navigation & a lot of concepts that can apply in the game. I think if you want to purchase a full module you should & skip the trainers! You might as well learn the aircraft your going to fly in the game. Learning the ins & outs in a trainer would be time you could’ve spent learning the F18 or whatever jet you want to purchase. There are some really good Free mods available like the A4 that are pretty complex to learn that you might consider with fully clickable cockpits! Just have fun, that’s what it’s all about in my opinion! Sure there’s complicated systems you will need to get the hang of and learn but that’s what makes it fun. Learning things in a trainer while what you really want is to learn the F16 or whatever airframe you have in your sights would ruin some of the fun I think. So pick out whatever aircraft you like & just go for it & enjoy yourself! In the long run we aren’t putting our lives on the line, we’re not going to fly the real thing, feel G forces or anything that real fighter pilots will do, so the trainer isn’t necessary. In real life they do this because it’s a extremely complicated & your going to fly a multimillion dollar aircraft while putting your neck on the line as well as others. They slowly increase the amount of information, the complicated systems & piloting skills needed to fly in real life & if they mess up they put others as well as themselves at risk & can destroy millions of dollars worth of equipment etc. So they learn procedures, piloting skills like navigation, communication, emergency procedures and slowly increase this as they get checked off. It’s understandable why they do this. But in DCS we don’t have to do these things since it’s just a game/ simulator & a really good one. I would suggest downloading Chucks Guide for whatever airframe you decide on and read it as well as the manual. The guides he makes are top notch & have step by step instructions from starting the aircraft to weapons deployment, really great stuff! I use them alll the time! Hope this helped a little bit & let us know what aircraft you decide to purchase, there’s a ton of people here that can help you along your way. YouTube also has tons of tutorials that can help. Most of all, just have Fun!

Hmm not sure I’ve seen that. Is it in the VR menu in DCS or in the Oculas software?
-
It shows up as a white dot in the coms menus in game but doesn’t appear in the cockpit afterwards & works fine in the main game menus & mission builder etc. I’d just like to get it to work in the cockpit instead of the controllers. Unless I’m missing something all along. But I can’t seem to see it in the cockpit

Hey guys sorry if this is a dumb question but I need some help. I have a Quest 2 running DCS in VR & works pretty well but I’m having difficulty getting the mouse to work for cockpit input instead of the Q2 controllers. It works with the communications menus & the main DCS menses but then disappears in the cockpit. Is there a setting I need to set to get this to work? I find using the Q2 controllers to be a little difficult sometimes. The mouse is a standard USB mouse. Thanks!!

I sure hope they release the patch today or tomorrow with the Mosquito! Really looking forward to the twin engine WWII action! Every patch has been adding more & more awesomeness to an already awesome simulator!!
