Dual Cougar MFDs for the FA18-C
Ebphoto replied to AnimalMother1775's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Just curios, I’m just starting to look into this, but is there an easy “Plug and Play” solution to fit inside the WinWing F15E or F16 cockpits they make? I have extremely limited space since I fly laying down. I just thought this might be an early solution and they look easy to install without a ton of wireing to do. Thanks -
Thank you guys for all the help! I was trying to place like I usually fo and set the on the map then select who flies it and if I didn’t have Client or Player it wouldn’t work. Just a little confusing. So thank you and yep it works!! That big base you took a screenshot of is HUGE!! Really cool and a lot of fun to fix up with Mods! Thanks again

I can agree with your list. Sounds pretty fair as long as they can do what you’re asking in regards to those trees. I did see the orange trees and a few others and I would bet they were placed there as temp markers until they can go back and clean it up. It is early access and those kind of things are pretty common. The South Atlantic map had some of the same type issues and now they’ve had time to go back and clean them up. OnReTech has done a fantastic job on their Sinai map. It’s one of my favorite maps to fly on. I’ve seen some screenshots of some of the building they are adding for a future patch and they look amazing. Jerusalem looks like they will be adding some important details as well as some really cool ancient cities like SHaRA (I think thats what it’s called). I was presently surprised when I saw the entrance to it as one of the buildings they are working on. I love small little details like that. I fly in helicopters a lot in DCS so things like this are really great to see. Also I agree with the coastlines looking like the sides of a swimming pool!so those definitely need to go. I think the Marianas map is a great example of what they can do to improve them. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that these maps are in beta stages right now. I think when people pay for things they forget this fact and are too critical in what they actually have or what they bought. People should not purchase these maps in early access if they can’t deal with things not looking very cohesive or pleasing. What I try to do is just remember when I started in flight sims and what it looked like back then. Falcon the first one, the first F117 Microprose software and even earlier software I flew on a 8 bit PC with DOS as the operating system and Windows wasn’t even invented yet. We flew those sims over 300bps modems together! I have a friend who was a F15/ F16 instructor and we flew dogfight all the time over those modems! I look back on the graphics and laugh that we thought they were good. We dreamed of having what we have today. So when I think back while looking at an early access terrain or even an aircraft it helps me put things in perspective! I mean what we can do today is mind blowing. I can put on a VR headset and feel like I’m actually sitting in the cockpit of a F-16C Viper or a AH-64D Apache then fly with a friend as a wingman or in the front seat of my Apache with 50 other players or just together the two of us. It’s just amazing! Anyway I’m rambling now so I’ll get off my soapbox now! I think you catch my drift of what I am saying. Let’s hope ORBX gets this right. I think they will based on their track record with MSFS. We will have to wait and see. BTW if you ever want to fly together just send me a DM either here or on X or my YouTube channel and we can. I’m always open to flying with new people or people I don’t know. This community has some wonderful folks in it. Thanks…

Wow! Really? You don’t see it looking remotely the same? That pretty unreal to me! So, I am sure the developer will get this map worked out.. Like I said it is Early Access and this is what happens during the development process. They’ve already stated things about the trees so I’, sure they either get a fix, a compromise or if it can’t be done they’ll do the best they can. Yes, I have been all over Europe however when I got the chance to go to Norway and Sweden it was during a huge installation our company was doing and I had to spend 80% of my time working and then was usually too tired to do much so ordered room service slept and repeat! I never got a chance to do any site seeing at all. Funny how people always think working internationally is so exotic and cooll. While it sounds pretty neat, you don’t get much time to see the place you’re going. Some places I did or it would be for the Big electronic show they hold in Munic Germany and for the life of me I can’t think of it’s name ( I think it’s Cibit or something similar) and all I can think of is the Munchin Hall where you drink HUGE beers and get completely skokered!! I did get to see a lot of the Middle East and some of Europe whith Italy being my longest and most enjoyable trip. So anyway I understand the tree thing, it’s just not on my list of things to worry about but like they say, to each their own!! Hopefully this will all get worked out for you Thanks…

I was about to say the exact same thing as Rudel_chw said in his reply. I am only referring to the trees not the shoreline etc… Also I took a flight over Bodo and compared them to actual pictures of the real Bodo and it looks pretty good to me. This is also Early Access so thing will improve! It looks darn good in my opinion and it’s only going to improve!

Wow! This looks really nice! Can’t wait to give it a go! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. I want that summer time rolling rain where it’s nice in some parts and the others have small light rain showers. And if they move with the wind thats all for the better! Thank you for making this! Really it looks great from these screenshots!

I must be missing something here because I don’t see a problem with the trees. I think they look fine. They look like pine trees to me and other trees fill the forest up pretty well. Maybe because I live in Florida and we have different trees down here. You know the kind that have coconuts and big leaves way up at the top and nothing in between! Seriously I don’t understand what the problem is. The only time I really look at trees is when I’m flying helicopters and even then I’m just looking to make sure I don’t hit one. I’m not looking at what type of conifer tree it is! Even when I’m up high I’m not concerned about the type of conifer tree in the forest some 20,000 feet beneath me! I’d rather have good frame rates in VR than the proper trees in a forest. Now if it was Palm Trees in the forest and not a bunch of Christmas trees I’d agree with you because that wouldn’t look right but these forest in the Kola map look like conifers to me. The pictures shared in a later post in this thread show these trees look pretty good and the forest look like forest. Just my opinion…

I’m not sure if this is even possible at this time but does anyone know how to place the aircraft on the parking spaces or runways of the road bases? I can place the Viggen and the Harrier but all others jump to the nearest airbase if I try to place them on the bases parking areas. Oh and this is the roadbase thats in Sweden I think it is called Vidsel or something like that. It’s huge with lots of parking areas and three or four runways. I know you can fly to the and land there but I cannot seem to be able to create a mission in the ME with other aircraft parked and ready to go like A-10CII’s or F-18’s etc… BTW, so far I’m loving this map! It’s got tons of potential and can’t wait to see whats coming for it! Thank you…

Are you developer of Sinai map? If no, why you say its unrealistic? If you are right then you not need Vietnam No I’m not a developer I just disagree and think you’re being unrealistic with your expectations. You expect a lot for a $70 map. If a developer had to put in all the different time frames you want it would cost a lot more because of the time it would take for the research and details required. Like I stated, go check out Growling Sidewinders videos on this map and how he recreated the Six Day War. Looks pretty good and proves you don’t need what you asking for. Here’s a link to one of them for you….

The Un-Official DCS Camel Add On
Ebphoto replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Just saw this and wow thats great! So do the Camels move or are they just static? Just curios if those Camels are animated to not and we can see them move across the desert? -
That’s great! Thank you for posting this! I haven’t checked it out yet but if it has all that info about SAM site placement etc it would help quite a bit! As far as your other statement I totally agree. I think the airfields are the main thing and other than location, they’re semi easy to put assts and aircraft to mimic a time frame you’re looking for. Like I said, you’re not going to be looking at the color of vehicles or a truck or if a building looks modern or not if you up at altitude. Things like a SAM site would make a difference in where it is and what it is but the rest, unless your flying choppers won’t matter very much or at least I don’t think it should. The example of Growling Sidewinders video is a perfect example that you can fly this area in those time frames and to expect the map developer to create different time periods is crazy and unrealistic for the price we pay. Heck that might actually be a business someone could do, depending on the copyright and legal stuff. But someone could take these maps and change them to a specific time period and sell it? Who knows?. Not my thing but I’m sure somebody out there would do it. Personally I don’t think theres enough money in it for the work thats needed. Any way, thanks for this info. I’m very curious to see what it has.

Go watch one of Glowing Sidewinders missions he recreated for a video on the Six Day war. He seemed to recreate it very well with the same map that we have. When your up at 6,000 feet or higher and flying a wartime mission your not going to spend much time looking at the color of the trucks and cars or that a building looks too modern. You’re going to be focused on the mission and not getting shot down. I think several content creators have done this on the DCS maps. I can’t remember the persons name or YouTube channel but he did nothing but recreate 50’s, 60’s -70’s missions before we even had the Sinai map and did a great job and most people would never know he wasn’t over Egypt except for us DCS players. Go check out some of those videos, do a search and especially GS Sinai missions he created. It proves this map works for that time period as it is.

Interesting saying a Map is “About” a region. It’s not about the region and the history. Its a geographical place, a map, it’s up to us the DCS players to make the about part in my opinion or content creators who make campaigns and mission to make the about part. I think ALL the maps in DCS are this way. They just present the player with a geographic location with as much as detail the developer wants or can do with their budget that included cities with airports and bases etc.. Then we, through the ME make a mission “About” what we want either historical or made up things we want to fly. I don’t think we should look to the developers of the Maps to do this or these maps are going to cost a LOT more than they do. Especially if they need to make different versions for different time periods because you would have to include the assets for the time period as well. That is a lot of work for a $50-$60 map.

Thanks for the info, I thought I was going nuts for a week there! I knew I hadn't seen it before except on the Sinai map. This is really great and the map is just getting better and better! I'll have to do a whole mission on Amman and the are around it. Thanks again!
-
So I have to ask this because it’s been bugging me for a few days now. Was Amman, Jordan always on this map? I swear I do Not remember it being there. I’ve done a couple of Syria Map Expansion videos for my YouTube channel and one was for Amman airport, which I know was just added but I do Not remember the city being there before. I never really flew this far south in the Syria map since there wasn’t much there (or I thought there wasn’t)! Amman now is pretty big and just flows over the hills like in the Sinai map. It’s pretty awesome! So if someone could let me know I would appreciate it! I have one, maybe two more videos to do for this latest expansion and would like to know so I can say something about it. Anyway thank you! The map looks fantastic! If you’re interested in seeing the videos you can find them on my YT channel… https://youtube.com/@ricbish4122?si=IBRfBT9fYaFJmggG

Your expectations are not set correctly. It’s not that they are speaking to you in any way, it’s that you just don’t like the answer! Sorry but Early Access just means you get to see and play with it before its bugs are worked out. It’s part of the excitement of seeing something Early. It has flaws and things will need to be fixed etc.. There NO agreement that updates need to be made or monthly updates will be made. Just have patients and go with the process. Life is way too short to worry about this stuff! If this is stressful or you don’t like the process than don’t do it! Pretty simple! Cfrag, Well said and a perfect explanation of what Early Access is. I agree with this and people need to reset their expectations of what EA is.

Who ever said “Fast Turnaround”? I don’t remember reading or hearing that before. I’m not sure what is so broken or so bad that you need this map updated so badly? I don’t really have any problems running this at all. Granted my systems a beast but it even runs on my MSI Gaming laptop without any problems. I really don’t expect ORT to respond to this forum very often. I’m sure they know the issues , though I don’t, and are working on it. We aren’t privy to the way they do business or whats being discussed between ORT & ED. Who knows? I have seen them respond here on other topics so I know they check this forum. I thought there was a patch that had some updates on the Sinai map, not 100% sure though. I have gotten responses from them on Instagram and they repost a lot of my video shorts etc on their story or Instagram account which I’m thankful. I have never asked about dates or when the new items will be available since I’m not too worried about it. I fly this map all the time single play and multiplayer with friends on our own servers. There isn’t anything glaring at me that needs fixing or anything preventing me from using it. Sure I’d love to see some new parts of the map and airports etc but I have too many other things to worry about than when ORT is going to patch the map or when something is going to release. I’m a very laid back person & lots of patience so I’ll stand by to stand by as we used to say.

It is called Early Access!! That means it’s not finished and many things in the map are in the process of being developed. If you want a full clean and performance enhanced map then wait for the official release and don’t purchase the Early Access version. I’m sure they will update the map when they have enough additions and fixes to go into a patch. I think they plan to release things in the patches based on their roadmap. I don’t get how people purchase Early Access/ Beta modules and then complain about things they don’t like etc when the maps not finished! Personally I think this maps pretty great and I seem to fly it more and more. To help me keep things in perspective, I always compare what we have now to how all this started. It’s amazing how far this simulation has grown and improved over the years! I can remember when we used to try and dogfight over 300bps modems and thought 16bit graphics were awesome! If you compare DCS and the modules to that it’s mind blowing what we can do now, especially in VR!!! We have servers available 24 hours a day 7 days a week with up to 50 people all flying together or against each other, thats nuts compared to a 300bps modem over a land line! I don’t think I would have left my house/ room if we had this level of sim back in those days. Heck we dreamed of having 3D trees and terrain like this! Looking back always helps me look forward. Try it, can’t hurt! Also if you go on Instagram and look at OnReTechs account they frequently post pictures of things they are working on for this map, like buildings, destroyed buildings and assets etc.. so check it out.

Recommended Terrain/Map for new player; SINAI OR NEVADA
Ebphoto replied to WAR EAGLE 1's topic in DCS 2.9
Not sure I get what you mean because Any of the maps can be used for training. Personally I like the Sinai map and South Atlantic map and seem to load those more than others. If your flying helicopters the Normandy 2 map is pretty good and has a ton of little details that make it a lot of fun. I have the Navada map and it’s probably the one I use the least also the Caucus map I don’t fly very often. Syria has a lot of fun areas to fly over and there are a ton of missions and campaigns you can download for it. I wouldn’t worry about training on one map or the other since any will work. -
I always used my sunglasses or my visor if I had to. Sometimes putting my hand up to block the sun works too

Not really sure why you would need this since you can adjust the afterburner detent % in the setting. So like on my Virpil throttle I tweaked the setting to (I think) 80% for the detent. Now the throttle goes to Full Military power until 80% (which is where my detent is) then goes into afterburner if I push further on the throttle. It’s different for each plane and you just have to tweak it until you happy with it. It’s not hard to do and it will prevent you from accidentally going into afterburner. I didn’t now about this setting at first and had issues with the afterburners since I couldn’t tell when they’d engage. Now though since I’ve tweaked the throttle and this setting it’s eliminated the problem. Really easy to do.

So do we Have a Functioning FCR or not in the latest update
Ebphoto replied to JOEM423's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Yep I agree but it was a quick mission I setup for practice with the FCR. Kinda nukes the whole point if I don’t use the FCR for a mission to use the FCR! -
FYI I’ve seen a couple of folks say this was a problem introduced with the 2.9 update and I remember I first noticed it with the F-15E Strike Eagle on the Syria map before the 2.9 update. I’d have to go back and look at some of the videos I posted to YouTube with the F15E to get an exact date but it was before 2.9 I know for a fact. I remember my friend asking if he was seeing lightning & I didn’t know what he was talking about until a few minutes later when I saw the same thing. Anyway, if ED you need the date of the video I can go back through and look for it. It has to be around the time the F15ESE was released. Thanks & please let me know if you need that.

Ebphoto replied to JOEM423's topic in DCS: AH-64D
The issue you described with seeing it in the TADs view but the radar was blank is the issue I was struggling with last night. I could zoom with my eyeballs and see the targets next to the road in the open field but the radar didn’t pick them up. I had to climb way, way up to like 800ft before the radar picked them up. I tried various settings but nada and even tried manual azimuth and elevation. There were a few trees but nothing like a big forest or buildings blocking my view since I set it up in the ME to practice on! I figured it was probably something I was doing wrong because I was well within 3km of the targets. I’m sure it will get easier and I Will definitely go back and watch all the tutorials again to see what I’m doing incorrectly. I will say I thought it would be much easier and not as much tweaking but I’m not an Apache pilot either nor have I really studied them other than the DCS videos & the Chucks Guide and what I’ve picked up here sand there. Most of my time I spend in the F16 and F15E now. Still love the choppers though especially in VR! -
Thanks Wags I will take another look at this video. I watched it last night but didn’t hear the range numbers. Probably just didn’t pay close enough attention. Thanks and hope you have a wonderful holiday!!!
