    Thank you Kang! Caldera
  2. Thanks again! I just have to wonder. The feeling I get in the DCS A-10C cockpit is that something in there just feels out of wack, but I just can't really say what it is. I has to do with the head position <==> HUD <==> cockpit space <==> fore aft seat position <==> distance side to side. Might be nothing more or less than a real estate issue for the simulation. In the RL A-10C cockpit is there an option for seat adjustment forward or aft? Only from youtube videos, I noticed that the pilot has all of the dash controls no farther than what can be easily reached, so say maybe 12 to 20 inches? All in all, it seems rather tight in there. The HUD itself is seems to be positioned closer than my computer monitor, which is about 25 inches. Caldera
  3. Hm... This thread got moved for some reason. I noticed in an A-10 video (RL) that had a refueling segment in it, that sometimes when the A-10C is disconnected from the fueling boom just as the pilot rolls away they may discharge a few flares. Is there a purpose for this? Caldera

    Questions

Hello: So the user manual that I have concerning multiplayer is in-accurate or just plain out of date. I downloaded this a manual from the ED website, but it is the same one that I got when I downloaded the game itself. More annoyingly, I can't even really figure out where in the manual that it tells what version it is. So I have questions for some one kind enough to answer: If I am in a multiplayer game and I want to exit my aircraft, for example using the ESC key like in single player, how do I do so without leaving the server? Where can I find an up to date version of a manual describing how to use multiplayer? On the 4YA servers how do you capture a base? Other than the VAD regional map package, is the some where that has the same kind of maps but for other regional maps (EX: Persian Gulf)? Caldera
  5. Not exactly the same topic, but a weird thing happened to me last night. I had the HUD selected. I tried to change the steer point (DMS U/D). Nothing was happening. So I tried to change the selected weapon (DMS L/R). Nothing was happening, or so I thought at first. I noticed that as I was trying to change the selected weapon that the text at the steer point was changing. It looked like it was basically cycling through all of the vehicles present in the area. Just their text name. I alt-tabbed out of the game to the control panel and checked HOTAS functionality. It was just fine. I alt-tabbed back into the game and everything was working correctly. Pretty weird... Caldera
  6. Thanks Yurgon, Still attempting to get a full tank of gas. I can connect once in awhile, but my speed control is not good enough to let me stay connected for long. I would have to say speed control is the hardest part of the whole process. I have no visual cues except the HUD and that seems to always lag behind the actual, causing me to overshoot or undershoot the tanker speed and quickly cause a disconnect. I did watch a youtube video the other night. It was an A-10C walk around. The nose had many dents and pretty good size ones, just forward of the refueling door. The pilot giving the walk around said it is very common and that it happened during A-A refueling. Caldera
  7. My seat position changed after the last update as well. I usually adjust it every single time. So much so that I have throttle switches mapped to do just that. I would follow Taz's advice That is how I learned to do it. I try to fit most (as TAZ does)every thing inside the HUD panel in moving the cockpit back or the HUD projection forward (same thing different way to describe it). Things in the HUD can get to small for me if I am not careful. I key off of the speed <--> altitude line. The compass at the bottom I might let be hidden a tad by the projector. I slight lean forward (TrackIR) and I see it just fine. Caldera
  8. Well.... I got onto a multiplayer server tonight for the first time. I fired one Maverick and the screen went gray and pretty much stayed that way. WHot became totally grey and BHot became totally black. The mission was at sunrise. Same deal as before, I could fiddle with it make very little work especially at the zoomed levels that I needed to be at. I was having a great time until then. I ended up just RTB. I thought it was a great server, but now I can't find it again after I took care of the fxo folder. I honestly do not know. I had zero problems before the last update. I have attached screen shots of my NVidia 3d settings. Caldera
  9. Yurgon; I am attaching two home grown mission files. They are MSN 0 and MSN 2. Take a look at them if you like. MSN 0 is my refueling training mission. It replaces the mission that I spoke about above. The orbiting settings for the tanker are the same in both versions and are 15000 220, but 15000 180 is what it actually does. This version at least the altitude is correct. MSN 2 was basically my trigger testing mission. The player attacks a building at the mystery X airport and some stuff happens. I have way points assigned. This mission worked correctly for quite a few sorties then something changed. In the table below I have used Z+ because I do not actually know the altitude at the point, but the way point shows up on the ground in the HUD and the HMD while in flight. Way points altitudes: Number Assigned Actual Purpose 0 Initial 1 49 49 End of runway - Landing marker 2 2500 Z+ Final approach RTB 3 10000 Z+ Rally - Launch some CAP 4 10000 Z+ IP 5 33 33 Target - Starts a small skirmish 6 10000 Z+ EP 7 5000 Z+ Mission clear - Set up for RTB Let me know if you find something please. I did manage to get connected to the tanker a couple of times! A small success, but still a success. Once connected maintaining the correct speed is difficult. Finding the tanker is no easy task either. I am forgetting the actual text. As you know, the refueling process starts by first contacting the tanker and indicating your intention to refuel. The tanker acknowledges and gives you a speed and altitude vector to join. Once you close on the tanker you ask for permission to begin refueling (Radio F1). What was I doing wrong was that I was simply not close enough to the tanker when I requested that permission. For failures, the tanker would respond "return ...", which I guess means "Nice try, ask again when you are a little closer". For successes, the tanker would respond "confirmed ...". So when I got closer still the operator would wake up and do their thing. I simply did not know the correct responses to expect until today. Caldera MSN 0.miz MSN 2.miz
  10. Thank you Yurgon! Yeah Oops! I just noticed that I got the KC-130 and the KC-135 ash backwards. Where I said KC-130 insert KC-135 and vice versa, because that is what I really meant to write. To that, it does clear things up for me about the radio coms. I am sure it says that some where in the manual. As to my Refueling Mission that I had used before. I just wiped it, to make another one that might hopefully work right. I am pretty sure however that I had that right. And... That is how I noticed that little thing about the KC-130 and the KC-135. I will let you know how the new Refueling Mission goes. Same thing kind of happened to a seperate CAS training mission that I have been playing for quite a bit it. Some of the way points that I had been using that were are 5000 or 10000 suddenly started showing up as being at ground level when I played the mission. I had made no changes in the MISSION EDITOR that caused this to happen. At this point I am thinking PFM. Caldera
  11. Thanks Ziptie, FWIW I used to buy zip ties by the thousand. Your reply "If TVV and pitch ladder are offset to one side, it would most likely be from a crosswind, yes." might explain some of my problems. I did have some crosswind effect. I have no way to know for sure, but it seems kind of excessive. The tanker would just jump at times. I also tried TURBULENCE checked on for awhile. I can forget that. At some instances I would be suddenly forced into an roll and literally almost go inverted. I am guessing caused by the prop wash or some other vortex coming of the KC-135. Yippee-Kay-Yay! The TURBULENCE effect seems really over the top. I watched another youtube video. Your reply "Yes for the boom operator, although you need to fly the aircraft into a proper position before they will do the fine adjustments to contact." I noticed that happening in the video. Where the tanker operator would wake up. At that time the nozzle would sort of lift up and/or move aft by perspective to the tanker. That never happened for me. I mean I was literally cramming the nozzle into the front wind shield or into the GAU. The tanker operator still dozing. Maybe I am missing something? The MISSION EDITOR still seems confusing. Does it require refueling to be at 5000 210 for the A-10C using the K-130? Can the A-10C refuel from the KC-135? Some how that makes no sense to me. For the KC-130, when I have the settings at 15000 250 things are weird. Actually, I mean initially, I had them at 15000 220 (some ATP). On the first try the tanker told me to report at 15000 180. So I exited out of the mission to check. Hmm... I eventually had to set the speed to 250 just to get the tanker to reply for 15000 210. I tried faster speeds. The tanker would never reply with a speed faster than 210 no matter how much the settings were increased it seemed. Then... The tanker actually showed up at 5000 210 (closer to 209), as I said above. Is this supposed to happen? Caldera
  12. Hey; So I wanted to learn how to do air to air refueling (AAR?). In Mission Editor I tried to set up a mission so that I could practice just that. After I finally got the KC-135 (turbo prop tanker) to orbit properly. I was not sure exactly how it should work even if it was working correctly. That took 2-3 hours. Anyways, I finally got it to do a race track orbit properly. Part of the problem was that evidently the KC-135 crew was as frustrated as I was because it absolutely refused to talk to me. I had Easy Communications checked at all times. I messed with the radios, way points, I messed with all I could think of. The KC-135 would not answer me. More research and more youtube videos and I had no luck. As I was just about to give it up, I decided to try the KC-130 at a last resort It worked the first try. Is this only a mystery to me? I had thought that the KC-135 would have been better because I thought it could fly slower more comfortably. Another problem with the Mission Editor. I had set up the waypoints for the tanker to orbit at 15000 220. When I caught up to KC-130 I could not find it for quite some time. Well, it had decided to orbit at 5000 210. Is that something that is supposed to happen? On to refueling itself. That is very tough. I noticed that once the refueling process starts the tanker flies straight. I my case it flew straight for over an hour straight. I guess I need to watch a few more youtube videos. From my point of view the probe should have made contact. I mean I felt like I was there many times, but in reality I don't have a good feel for the place I need to try and stab it. I kept missing. I had no luck. One funny thing did happen. I some how got caught up in the wire that goes from the empennage down to the refuel boom. The wire itself was going straight through my aircraft just behind the cockpit I was just stuck there, floating along and enjoying the scenery. At the time, it seemed like a good enough place to refuel from. I would have saved the track, but it was over an hour of me failing to refuel before that. Now I have a question a couple of questions: Isn't there an operator in the tanker that is supposed to steer that probe into the aircraft and help out the pilot make connection? If the TVV and attitude lines in the HUD are not centered in the HUD and the attitude lines are kind of slanted at all time, is from the effect of a cross wind? Caldera
  13. I installed the autoexce.cfg file that you sent me. I have no problems to date. That in includes about a half dozen play sessions. Caldera
  14. I got it working, looks great. Thanks Again! Edit: Now I can play and I don't feel like my nose is shoved up against the HUD panel just to be able to read it. Caldera
  15. Thanks, I have like 40 to 50 hours flight time in the A-10C ii. Probably 20-30 hours using TGP at some point in the mission. Here is the thing. If I delete the contents of the fxo file folder before the play session. No issues. None. Nada. Noxnee. Works perfectly good all times, all altitudes, all attitudes, if I have no gymbal faults and the TGP is not masked. I don't even think about it. If I forget and I select for example BHot, then as soon as I start to zoom in it may just go completely black. No fading to black, just black. From there, I can further zoom in and I might find a phase where it works again. If I zoom in or out of that phase it will black out again. Nothing, just pure black. At those times I did try messing with the contrast. I could not make any improvements so I kind of gave up on that. The problem is that the phase that I describe, may or may not be at zoom level where I can make a useful target solution. It also takes much longer. Are trying to tell me that what I describe above should be normal? That would be discouraging. I have probably close to an equal number of hours just watching youtube videos. I am trying to learn and to not be such a dork. I have never once in all those videos seen an effect anything like what I see in my game. Only thing that comes close is just the few moments immediately after a maverick release. I like Hellreign82's skill level and his sense of humor. And I like the "real feel" that RalfiDude puts in his mission videos. Caldera
  16. Taz, This is my second attempt at a MOD. The first one was SRS everything went smoothly, but it used an installer. I see the line DCS-SRS (among others) in the SPECIAL tab, but I do not see anything about your mod in this tab. I must have extracted to the wrong folder. The folder I extracted to: C:\Users\%username%\Saved Games\DCS So now the path looks like: C:\Users\%username%\Saved Games\DCS\Taz1004_A10C_II_Cockpit_Optimized The Tax1004_A10C*** folder has folders contained with in exactly as it was extracted. Is this correct? I would really like to try your mod. Struggling at times to see the HUD. Caldera
  17. How can be the time to take a break from this game already. I may just lose my mind.... Sorry to be a bother, I have no where else to turn for advice right now. I know that it may seem very simple to those with more experience. I have the Combined Arms module. I have two missions created for testing as I have been messing around with the Mission Editor. One mission I have an A-10C ii programed, some triggers, some targets, some engagements and a HMMVY all programed and it works mostly. One mission I have only a HMMVY and that is it. Basically, I wanted to use the HMMVY as an method of checking out things that I have built in my mission. I figured that I could just hop in it drive around and see how things looked. In the mission where the HMMVY is the only vehicle I can jump right into it by using RALT J. In the mission where the HMMVY is not the only vehicle I can't. In both cases I have the PLAYER CAN DRIVE checked in the Mission Editor. From the controls page I see JUMP INTO SELECTED AIRCRAFT - RALT J. So in the mission where I have more stuff programed I try to do just that. I go to the F-10 map view. I make my index finger fatigued scrolling out then in, I locate the HMMVY and I click on it. It turns yellow on the map. Next I press RALT J and I get the message Unable to enter vehicle: vehicle control is not possible. I have tried pressing RALT J 10 to 20 times in a row, still the same result. I have tried pressing RALT J until the whole right side of the F10 map screen is full of Unable to enter vehicle: vehicle control is not possible, still the same result. Any clue what I am doing wrong? Caldera
  18. Silver; This file does not exist on my PC. Do you suppose that might be a problem? Caldera
  19. Taz, Thank you! As for the "But what's ASWTF de-coding?", sometimes I get off the road a bit just trying to be funny. I have been studying the Mission Editor. Gerbil, My TGP goes from basically what you describe to all out black or all out white. I can mess around with it and get it to work some what. Usually, by the time I get done fiddling with it so that I can lock on to something I am typically out of the weapon release window or I have to go around and start from farther away or I have to use PAUSE which I am trying not to do. That all annoys me a little. Caldera
  20. OK, I have not tried the autoexec work around yet, as I am too busy studying the manual. Like I a needed a higher grade in school... I happened to see this: There actually is one person who came up with a script for automatically deleting the files. I read through most of it. At some point, I was comforted to know that it is not just a few people who are effected and getting annoyed. Although the problem I get, at least the one I notice which is the total black out or white out on the TGP display, was not really discussed. I bought some more stuff from DCS World because it was on sale. I bought that stuff instead of a bigger hammer to hit myself in the head with. One of the things I bought was the F/A-18C module. When first I went into the CONTROLS page I kind of went "Ah Sh** WTF" (ASWTF). What I noticed is that under the first drop down menu where the planes are listed I don't have a F/A-18C Real listed there. Looking a little more it now is a bit confusing. Trigger --> Check to see if I am an idiot by looking to see what I have in the drop down list after making a purchase A-10C II Game A-10C II Real P-51D Easy P-51D Real F/A-18C Game F/a-18C Sim Conditions --> Assumptions correct 1) Game <--> Easy 2) Real <--> Sim Actions --> Delete the fxo file contents again for ASWTF de-coding --> re-coding <Line 62> { [ call LOOP ] flag,1,6 == null, next, top } --> search for result --> Message to all "Oh Sh** Oh Sh** Oh Sh**" There are other selections in the drop down list. But the ones above are the ones I am most concerned about. No help that I could find in the GUI manual. It only mentions Game or Sim. Please help me with the following choices: a) Game modes labeled badly? b) Some how wasted my money on the wrong product and / or got screwed? c) Go back to just the P-51D d) Try not to annoy people who have cared enough to read all the way to here Caldera
  21. The work around that Taz suggested is and isn't working. With that statement, I mean that I still have to delete the contents of the FXO file folder after or during every play session or I get the total white out or black out effects on the TGP. That is a bit discouraging. I think I will try SilverD's work around next and see if that does the trick. I just wished I understood a bit better what is actually going on with it. Caldera
  22. CT, I have it mapped to Weapon Release. So the weapon release control is mapped to two different switches. One the stick and one on the throttle. Frankly, the ergonomics of the x56 is a bit annoying for me. I have big hands. The lower controls for the left thumb on the throttle seem to jumble together. Two 8-way hat switches and a mini joystick that close together is not that good for me. With the throttle fully forward it gets worse. On the stick the weapon release button just seems a bit of a stretch to reach with my thumb. I have allot of trouble maneuvering (aiming) if I am pushing forward on the stick and at the same time trying to do a weapon release. Especially if I have to bank to the right with my thumb on the weapon release button. For some reason at those times I kind of lose my grip on the stick. The spring return switches that you use for flaps, landing gear and speed brake I use for the China and Coolie switches. Not the greatest, because I have to take my hand off of the throttle. But it is the best solution that I can figure out so far. I use (try to use) TrackIR so I have TMS mapped to the POV hat on the stick. I have DMS and trim mapped just as you do. Having the TMS really close to the weapon release button on the stick is very convenient for Mavericks. I get confused sometimes however, and I wonder why the Mavericks won't come off the rails. Then I realize that pushing and pushing on the trim switch just won't let them fly away and do their job. Caldera
  23. CT, I like your graphical map of your layout. Very nice! I tried to use the analog mini-joysticks for the slew. I must have clumsier fingers than you do, because I kept touching them accidentally. Especially the one on the throttle. That would inadvertently move the SOI cursor. Seemed to happen at the worst of times. Also, I don't use any of the rotaries on the throttle. The noise level (poor quality?) is pretty bad at times and stuff just jumps all over (like zoom etc...). That was pretty much the same issue I had trying to use the mini joysticks for zoom. Too much erratic behavior. One thing that I have done and I really like is that I use two different weapon release methods depending upon the circumstance. I use [ Joy_2 ] just like you do. I also use the two position slider on the throttle that you have labeled [ A2A Refueling Door ]. As you know, this slider maintains position. So, on an attack bombing run that uses computer release, once I get it pretty much lined up I will flick that switch over. The switch maintains position and holds the release permission on constantly. I now just have to fly the plane to the HUD parameters and not worry about missing the cue to release. The weapons will always fall off at the right time. I also don't have to worry about creating a hung weapon by premature switch release. It works for rocket attack runs as well. I set up my release quantity, flip the switch, and pahzow the right number go off. Then when I get to a less hurried moment, I just flick the switch back off. It has become pretty instinctive for me. I find the x56 HOTAS not that ergonomic. How about you? Caldera
  24. I did as you suggested Taz, no issues yet. There are still files being written to the FXO folder. I just checked it and it was pretty full. Is that normal to happen? I went ahead and deleted them anyways. Caldera
