Best VR Headset (upgrade from Reverb G2)?
Youtch replied to Raketenfrosch's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks for your answer. Your point about different depreciations, as per how fast the technologies advance relatively, is very valid. I don t have a 4080, I currently have a 3080 and it is failing, and i will have to replace it. So, I am in a bad spot of having to upgrade both, my GPU (and probably my PC in general) and my headset (thanks to window 11 update), hence the question where to put more money, if investing in a super powerfull GPU or in a higher end headset with eye tracking. Regardless of what is available on the market, it also boils down to a question i asked in another thread: what is the reduction in % of pixel rendered with Dynamic Foveated rendering vs Fixed Foveated rendering for the eyes to perceive a similar clarity (although i know that in one case the head must move entirely, while the other case it is just the eyes moving). -
What is the difference in pixel rendered between quadview for eye tracking with dynamic foveated rendering vs fixed foveated rendering for no eye tracking headset?

Best VR Headset (upgrade from Reverb G2)?
Youtch replied to Raketenfrosch's topic in Virtual Reality
I guess i didn t express myself correctly, hence the confusion. Let s forget about the 5000RTX serie that is not going to be widely available at a reasonable price anytime soon anyway. I am not buying 2nd hand GPU, learning from previous mistake, with card not functionning properly, either abused through OC or through bitcoin mining. My question is therefore the following: Where is it more worth investing 1000 bucks for upgrading? What is the best value for the buck in term of gain of performance/visual? More GPU power making the jump from a 4080 to a 4090, to get more raw fps, with a Crystal light OR Getting a better headset with eye tracking like somnium instead of crystal light for instance, to be able through Dynamic Foveated rendering to lower the need for more raw gps power, using a 4080. Both correspond more or less to a 1000 euro jump. I play only DCS and IL2 in VR, amd have no interest for non VR, nor any other game. I personally really hated the G2 ultra narrow sweet spot and narrow fov, it was my first headset and very cheap when i bought it, so it was a good introduction into VR, but not something i m willing to repeat. Quest is totally out of question because of Meta. Y. -
Best VR Headset (upgrade from Reverb G2)?
Youtch replied to Raketenfrosch's topic in Virtual Reality
I am also in need to retire my reverb G2. I am trying to make a decision based on performance as i will not be able to afford a 4090 or 5090. I am poundering if it is better to invest in a headset with eye tracking to benefit from Dynamic Foveated Rendering, or go with Crystal light with Fixed Foveated rendering. Any advice in term of experience and performance difference? I was initially assuming that it was better to invest a little bit more in a eye tracking headset and keep a 4080/5080, than spending a splurge into a 5090 struggling to render the full screen, but i might be wrong. I also cannot get myself to give any money to Meta and its ecosystem, for as good as Quest might be, as I despise its entire ecosystem. Many thanks in advance for sharing your expertise, Y. -
Which trackball are you using? With a left or on the right configuration?

Hello, I have encountered a problem that happened for me only when flying Instant Action missions in Kola. It happened with all the planes but just for Kola map. The text with instructions provided at the very beginning of the mission when you are already in flights remains displayed on screen for the whole mission, regarless if I hit spacebar or not. Any idea why and how I could solve this? This is quite annoying to do all the mission with a text box on the screen. Many thanks in advance, y.

Let me start saying that I love flying the F16, and it most of the mission it works very well. But I have encountered some issues with some specific missions. For instance, the one that is more easy to reproduce because it is systematic, in Afghanistan Free Flight in Instant Action, the plane will take the initiative to roll left and climb all the time, even if there is no input in the control and regarless in which direction I am flying. I tried Switching to CATI and jettison all the equipment, and exact same behavior. Is it normal? f16 erratic control.trk I am attaching the track with the visualization of controls. Many thanks in advance, as it is very frustrated in certain scenarios. ----------- FIXED: I did not realize that these missions were starting with AP engaged. y.

Hello, Today I had an interesting case, I emergency landed the plane succesfully, the plane was fully at stop and I was safe, no vibration whatsoever. I decided for fun to eject, and the seat started vibrating like crazy. I retried with the plane now at full stop on the run way, cut the engines, no vibration at all, and then I ejected, and got the full chair hard massage again. It works the same with most of the planes I tried in DCS: F14/A10/F16. Is it only me, or you can reproduce it as well? Looking at the log: 13:52:53.9588 Playing effectId: Canopy/Door Open/Close File: p1_14_0_2 gain: 1 13:52:53.9588 Sent: p1_14_0_2~1~100~1 13:52:53.9588 Sent: p1_14_0_2~1~50~1 13:52:53.9588 14.Canopy loss. I disabled canopy/Door Open/Close, and immediately stopped. I will have to keep this effect disabled if it gives so much issues with ejection (as I am ejecting a lot ) Would you be able to look at it, to see if it can be reproduced on your side? Many thanks in advance, y. -
Instant Action: No basic missions for F14 in Persian Gulf maps?
Youtch replied to Youtch's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
My point is that while Persian Gulf has plenty of missions, it does not have any of the basic missions the other maps have: Cold Start, Take Off, Free Flight and Landing I understand from the conversation above that HB should be adding them. -
Instant Action: No basic missions for F14 in Persian Gulf maps?
Youtch replied to Youtch's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Does it depend in this concrete case on Ugra Media as the developper of the terrain or to Heatblur as developper of the F14? -
Persian Gulf is full of interesting missions for F14, but I am very surprised not to find the standard basic missions for F14 existing in the other terrains, such as Cold Start, Take Off, Free Flight and Landing. Am I missing something or these were never developped? I am surprised they exist for the other maps, even the more recent Afghanistan map. Many thanks in advance, y.

Has anyone tried the Viper with a FFB stick and original configuration?

Checking debug log it does not clarify what is the actual trigger in telemetry, but it is immediate. As soon as I eject, this is what appears in the log: 2024-11-08 21:29:33.005 - joystick - INFO - Telemetry Timeout, stopping effects 2024-11-08 21:29:33.010 - joystick - DEBUG - The function on_timeout is stopping effect 9 2024-11-08 21:29:33.012 - joystick - INFO - Stop effect 9 (Sine) ("je_rumble_1_1") 2024-11-08 21:29:33.016 - joystick - DEBUG - The function on_timeout is stopping effect 10 2024-11-08 21:29:33.019 - joystick - INFO - Stop effect 10 (Sine) ("je_rumble_2_1") 2024-11-08 21:29:33.630 - joystick - DEBUG - SENT KEEPALIVES: 1731097773.6300917 -

I recently started playing around with VPForce TelemFFB software from Walis. This software (which btw is also very nicely built, recommend anyone who want to have a look at it, or the VPForce manual) also feeds on DCS telemetry, and as per my test it systematically switches to pause ffb upon ejection, and hence stop all joystick rumble post ejection, allowing players to enjoy the scene and check what is going around without any annoying chaotic vibrations. I don t know exactly how it works under the hood, but i understand it is hence possible to get from telemetry that there has been an ejection and stop through software ffb response. I don t know if I will be able to get more information from debugging log, but it would be fantastic if it could be replicated for Simshaker. Many thanks in advance for looking at it, if you can. -
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Can you share why Sinai is now your favorite map?

Many thanks for your answer, much appreciated as always, Andre. Could you clarify a little bit more what you mean for cannon gun by: combination of 2 different approaches - unique sample(s) for an aircraft and combined use of a sample by many aircrafts I was the other day watching a documentary on the F16, and pilots were saying that the cannon effect in the cockpit and the type of vibration it triggered was quite unique, and taking people totally offguard, to the point where pilots had to be specifically trained to not be surprised by the response of the plane and its unique vibration, this is mostly due to the fact that it is a relativelly in size a big cannon mounted on a very small aircraft, and quite assymetrically. This made me think if SSA would be able to simulate that the source of vibration for the f16 although affecting all the cockpit is coming from one side for more realism. Would you have the list of all the effects which are the same for all airplanes? Thanks again, Y. -

I apologize in advance for asking maybe a stupid question on how effects differ from one plane to another. (I don t owe enough modules yet). Are all effects in SSA exactly the same regardless of the plane selected, with just the possibility to change the intensity of the effect as through the Jetseat Strenght parameter? Or effects are actually tailor made per plane, using different frequencies/motors? For instance, is the Cannon/Gun effect in SSA triggering the same response from the actuators if you are flying a A10 or an F16, just changing the overall strength? Or is the response following a different pattern depending on which planes you fly? Thanks in advance, Y. -
Does MR work well with FFR?

One year later, has anyone managed to nail the grail of no micro stutter in the cockit without MR for Reverb G2 + 3080 with FFR? Or MR remains the only option?

Considering buying a trackball to replace the mouse which is always a challenge to find in VR. I am total noob with trackball but i hear it is more precise. Any reason why the preference seems to be for trackball with mouse shape instead of pure trackball like this: Many thanks in advance for your insight.
