  1. Probably not an issue for anyone but myself but I'm unsure if you can throttle the download speed of standalone. Most folks I've talked to say you can't, but for someone like myself it's an absolute requirement. If you can throttle the stand alone download speed I'd like to know, as not being able to is a 100% no-go for me. I top out at 350kb/s download speed and it would take upward of 9 days or so to fully redownload the game with all my maps/modules, and in that time I would be totally unable to realistically use my internet for anything else. This is something that even comes up with updates, as there have been updates that have taken me multiple days to download, especially when maps get added to or messed with. It's an experience, can't wait for Starlink to hit Arkansas.
  2. Cow tossing shot-put competitions, lets gooooooooooooo
  3. So, about a week ago I decided to put together as many videos that I could find on either the Corsair (Such as the ZenosWarbirds 'Flying the F4U' video) or generic Navy Training video material as possible into a YouTube playlist. I want to share it with everyone now in hopes of maybe helping people out in the long term. If there are any videos that people think need to be added to the list, please let me know! But at the moment it's sitting at 35 collected videos, and honestly I couldn't find much else to add to it.
  4. I don't know for sure if it'd be any easier, but I'd honestly be fine with a gruff sounding fellow telling me the commands vocally without visual paddles. Not as cool, but probably much easier to get into a 'ready out the door' sort of state. Just please let us change the sounds so that I can make it my wife screaming bloody murder at me.
  5. You're an absolute saint, Rudel. Thank you for indulging me!
  6. I understand you're very busy Rudel, and I'm just being a spaz, but if you have time and want to indulge me I have a slew of random questions. I'll try to sort them in a sensible manner. Heavy Bungee Spring AN 01-45HA-1 page 24 talks about a heavy bungee spring 'on some of these airplanes' that causes a change of trim when the gear is pulled down. Is that the big coiled spring that's visible on the front of the landing gear handle? If it's not, is our F4U-1D going to be equipped with one? Takeoff Power AN 01-45HA-1 page 35 mentions a modification done to some aircraft to allow 2800 RPM/54" Hg takeoff power. It also mentions there needing to be a placard placed in the cockpit of aircraft that have been modified as such. I'm assuming ours won't be able to achieve that power takeoff, as I don't see the placard anywhere. Is that accurate? Prop Pull thru Other sims have a prop pull thru animation modeled, will we have one as well? Very understandable if we don't. Rocket Safety Plug Will the rocket safety plug be modeled? It's visually in the cockpit pics that have been posted, and plugged in, but a lot of procedures involve removing it to double (triple if you include master arm itself) safety the rockets. I was curious if you plan on having it be removable, and if so will it just be a click on/off model into the rocket station distributor box. AN 01-45HA-1 page 58 for those following along with my manual shenanigans. Signal Pistol Going to assume that this one is tossed? Seeing as how we're not Other Sim #2, but I'm curious nonetheless. I think that's all of them that I can think of off the top of my head, forgive me for being overly excited. Or don't, since you'll be getting my money soon enough, hopefully.
  7. Absolutely fascinating. Obviously not a huge priority, but maybe one day we could get that function added. Thanks Rudel!
  8. I'm not actually sure if that's the correct name for the device, but just go with me here, and heck the video reference I've found could just be a bit of movie magic shenanigans but... In this video, and at this moment of it, you can see the F6F Hellcat has a pull out map plotting table. https://youtu.be/a7pH6CQcGMU?list=PLVCxSRGBIGiuWRQTdlDf8zv6NkalW3AXt&t=454 Then, in this recent screenshot you can see something that looks like that navigation table pushed in underneath the instrument panel. https://leatherneck-sim.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Screen_220106_233855.png I'm going to expect the answer is 'no you can't pull it out.' Despite that, I remain hopeful that maybe one day we will be able to. Maybe with a little map that we could draw on (or just act like a sort of pseudo kneeboard for your map pages.)
  9. +1 but it would be better to just do away with various types of weapon in zone varieties and make a catchall for any weapons or gunfire in a zone, moving or otherwise.
  10. Yeah, this guy has a point. The Mi-8, Mi-24, UH-1H, CE2, Gazelle, A-10A & C, C-101, Yak-52, and the L-39 are all just random outliers and don't count in any way. Tactical Fighter Simulator confirmed. PBY would be fun, and gets a +1 from me.
  11. The term originates in Live Action Role Play, a sort of nerd pass time where you build weapons out of pvc and pool noodles to bash each other around with at the park. Sometimes people will go nuts and buy armor and whatnot as well. A good way to view it in this context is 'playing pretend.' Source: I've been a nerd with a pool noodle stick beating up other nerds with pool noodle sticks, it's pretty fun, until someone falls into a fire ant mound. Then it's a party.
  12. I don't know about for the S-24s, but my personal practice attack with bombs is to do 250kph approaches, pop up to 100 meters radalt and do a short count to 3 after the target passes out of view under the nose, then release. 120 meters for fab-500s, but otherwise about the same. Takes some feeling out, but lets you stay very mobile.
  13. +1, but require the helicopter to be shut down to do so.
  14. The DCS Community largely balks at pretend situations (funny that.) I agree with you, I think you should understand that. I firmly believe every airfield should have the option to have these things set up at a buttons press. The reality is that this situation will never, ever, happen. The 'purists' would call for blood, no matter what reason you have for wanting a tacan at a russian airbase by default. Your only hope is to be a loud enough voice that the mission maker sees the sense of it. Especially when the answer from official sources will almost definitely be to use the system in game already to deal with the problem. Mostly unrelated to this topic but the DCS community needs some SERIOUS mission making guides. Someone with an internet connection way better than my own and the time to do it to sit down and create hilariously in depth guides on all the things you can do. The documentation is there, but reading manuals is a hot take, even around these parts. Back on topic, pls gib prettier F-5E textures. I guess.
  15. I don't have a horse in this race beyond wishing the F-5 would get an uplift too, but you can literally throw a tacan down anywhere in the map editor. Or just set a vehicle to transmit in a way that lets you direction find off of it. Unless you mean something else?
  16. Rotorheads, 4YA if you want to take it easy.
  17. I contact a ground forces player over SRS and have them do it with combined arms.
  18. Just take mixed rockets, some on one side and some on the other. She can give you options if you're willing to play with the load out and test stuff out. Assuming that any load out that isn't a premade won't work is a defeatist attitude. I stand by my weird FAC load out, but the range of the engagements I'm usually in are not very far. As well as the simple fact that I tend to have support from both a Ka-50 (You will NEVER replace the Ka-50 with the Hind when it comes to destruction, the ability to smash 16 ground units is just too big of a flex) and fixed wing aircraft. I spend most of my missions spotting ground units with smokes, calling in arty to dig them out, and running around near the Ka-50 to be his spare eyes. Freeing him up to attack targets more patiently and safely, knowing that anything that ventures too close meets a Hind In The Face. 60% gas @ Farps 80% gas where you have room to rolling takeoff. 4 Shturms on the left wing Tested this multiple times on and offline, it works just fine. You don't need to have them split between sides. A smoke rocket pod on the inner left pylon The S-8s are so easy to use for rocket spotting, the big bright orange cloud they leave is insanely visible, along with being able to ballpark rockets out to 6km with just a little practice. Probably much further with more dedicated work. Inner and middle right pylon get a mixed S-8 load, one pod is HEAT the other is HE. Secondary target doesn't matter, you have a rocket for it. Be it infantry in a small forest, trucks on a road, or apcs. Though, the reality of the situation is you don't need the HEAT rockets, your gun shreds most things just fine. Anything your gun can't shred can eat an ATGM, which will probably be a safer attack than to use rockets. Nothing on the far right wingtip. You might could take 2 more shturms, but I haven't tested it and the weight of them would really cut into how much gas I'd be comfortable taking. Let Petro do his weapon setup in peace on the ground to burn some gas then go. You can fight literally anything but fast movers with this setup, toss smoke for friends to spot with, fight armor, or stomp on soft targets. Yes, she's going to be a bit side heavy, and will stay in a weird balance state as you use weapons, but you become a multi-role monster. When the time comes, depending on where R-60s can be placed, I plan on adding one to this setup, just to increase flexibility further. Probably replacing the HEAT rocket pylon, but it depends on if the R-60 can play with rockets at all. The gun pods are, no matter how much I love them, a total waste of time. 7.62 is okay if you're fighting trucks and want to save real ammo, the 12.7 is brutal to most things but you have a fantastically accurate 30mm cannon already built in. The 30mm grenade launcher pods are interesting, if difficult to use. With practice they're effective against infantry, but lock you into a rocketless build. The larger rockets are interesting, but I've had little practice with them. I've had more practice with the bombs and cluster munitions, both of which make you an action movie hero to use, but I think I'd rather leave them to the fixed wing boys.
  19. Please explain how to fix the select weapons system with the controls being unselectable then, because the select weapon commands that use the Lalt + # key combos can't be assigned to any of my controls other than the keyboard. The current setup only allows me to bind rotate the weapon select knob left and right.
  20. I heavily agree with this post. The lack of proper keybinds is absolutely disturbing. This seems to be a relatively common trend in recent years for DCS modules, I suppose they treat them as being low priority with the idea being that players will just use their mouse. I have a slew of peripheral usb devices specifically so I don't have to interact with the game via my mouse. Why can't we select specific weapons on the rotary using anything but the keyboard? Why am I required to click on the systems for engine start when I have totally unused cougar MFDs? It's absurd. There are other DCS modules that have been on the shelf longer that are still lacking keybind options as well, looking at you MiG-19P. It's so bad that there's people who just edit them in and pass them along to others. This is honestly embarrassing at this point to me, basic interactivity should be a higher development priority. I'd rather have unfinished 3d models than unfinished keybindings.
  21. Front seat is the combat trash can. Petrovich curls his legs up against his chin and hopes that he never has to use his backup controls, the thought of actually using the anti-torque stubs is terrifying. Unironically, I think my actual kitchen trash can has more sq footage in it for you to sit in.
  22. I didn't have anything on that outer pylon, tbqh. I was setup in my silly FAC loadout with all the atgms on the other wing. I barely even felt him collide, to be honest. I think that it might have holed a fuel tank on the belly, but I might not have had fuel in it to begin with. Most of the time I takeoff with about 50-60% gas at absolute maximum. Honestly I was just trying to smack him with a 30mm round, but I guess a wingtip will suffice.
  23. I start firing from almost 3km out using just the fixed sight, if they're in a place where I can. Short burst, increased rof. 100 ish meter pop up, as fast as I can go. I forget what depression I use in mils but its not too insane. With practice you can usually tear apart soft targets on the second, maybe third burst and never get very close at all. I'm usually turning away by 1km. Too close for me. Of course that depends on what the target is equipped with/supported by. Just a bunch of infantry with M16s and a dream? Naw, I'm gonna roll up on em like an angry rhino. Even 12.7/.50cal vehicles I show little care for. Run em over like roadkill. I know the damage model is WIP but i've blatted .50 cal fire off the front windscreen enough times to show no respect for units armed with them if they don't have support to take more than a few pot shots at my rear if I mess up the run. Sort of related I'm reaching the point that I'm also tanking stingers on the chin, tho I'm sure petrovich isn't very appreciative. He never seems to die though. So much so that when I get jumped by them I just turn to face the missile and tank the hit. The firer doesn't usually like the response. Hind angy, silly stinger truck must die. https://i.gyazo.com/d81cc9454633ecd3da42c1217faa4f21.mp4 I think the other two missiles he fired may not have had time to arm properly, but I don't know anything about the stinger, so yeah. That hit did almost nothing to me, I think at worst it broke the scope and peppered the nose. Start talking 20/23/57mm tho and we're in a totally different ballpark.
