August 9 Reddit Response to Release Date Speculation
Heinlein replied to Horns's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
one reason they might remain quiet might be because they don't wanna "razbam" the module by building to much hype. I honestly think their biggest mistake was announcing the A-6 way to early so now people remain sceptical about HB's abilities to deliver. However I don't think they would say it was coming in 2022 unless they were fairly certain it could be done and they seem quite determent from what I've seen. I'm remaining carefully optimistic about the F-4 before christmas -
August 9 Reddit Response to Release Date Speculation
Heinlein replied to Horns's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Yeah i have heard that HB have one or two employees living in Ukraine so that certainly puts a dent in the schedule. Hopefully they are safe and sound. If the release happens to be delayed into Q1 2023 I am fine with it. A fu**ing war is a valid excuse. Regardless I still have full confidence in HB's abilities and and drive to deliver this year -
Need to see if I can get a hold on that book

Persian gulf scenarios. Iran used them extensively in the iran iraq war and up to this day. People like me in the cold war community are planing tons of scenarios that involve the E. And practicly any 70's and 80's scenario finds room for it. But sure if you only aiming for the 1990 timeframe the E is not for you. By then the F-4 was beeing phased out anyway so one can ask what it is good for anyway in that time. The F-4's finest hour was from mid 60's to the mid 80's

When making a module one should choose the version of the plane that is the most typical and most used. For F-16's that is the C version. For the P-51 it is the D version. For the F-14 it is the A model and for the F-4 it is the E phantom that is the most phantom. All other variants are mere bonuses. One have to remember that the G and TX versions of the F-4 is simply an attempt to extend the service years by a few more years on what is at that time antiquated airframes. That is why the F-4G had a short service span until it was replaced by F-16's that did the job better and cheaper. And I also think the E model fits perfectly with DCS as we have more aircrafts from the 1950 - 1990 era then any other period. The huey, mi-8, mig-15,19 & 21, F-5E, F-14A, mirage F-1 etc and lets not forget coming modules like the mig-23 and SU-22.

and don't forget added scramjet's for mach 12 speed

From what I've heard, The F-4 have been in development since early 2021 so by release it has been in the works for a little under two years. Thats not a lot of time compared to other modules like the mirage F-1 that have been in works for three years. But Heatblur at this point consists of like ten people (?) in total in contrast to Aegers that only have two or three people. In adition HB at this point have a lot of experience in making modules. And some of the systems in the F-14A Early is the same as in the F-4 so that means they kill two birds with one stone in development. I still think we won't see the Phantom until sometime late Q4 but until then HB have said we will receive the last two F-14A versions this fall which is nice

same here. But one can dream.

Two teasers in two days after six months of radio silence. We must be getting close. "You're teasing it! hihihi" - Jester

Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Heinlein replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
A small minority keep asking about the F-14D. It's not gonna happen -
I also wanna add my thanks. Beautiful modeling and texture work and the plane really feels alive from taxing and takeoff to landing. You guys have definitely joined the ranks of Heatblur as among the best 3rd party developers in my books. Looking forward to see the continued development and work done by you.

The joke went over your head. The point was that both airframes where designed and intended as all weather interceptors but went to serve as multirole aircrafts, one beeing more expensive, comprehensive and more capable then the other. Guess which is which Still love the mirage tho. A neat little plane, surprisingly simple to learn and capable. Excellent addition to the coldwar environment

ahh 8 track. I remember my grandparents had one of those and I used to find it so cool. That needs to be a thing with this module

What do we Know About the Sparrows That we are Getting?
Heinlein replied to Czechnology's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The E model could carry F and E aim-7's if I remember correctly. Honestly not much to write home about, but for the early 70's they were amazing when the main adversary was mig-21's armed with short range R3 missiles. The Aim-7F's have an effective range of like 12 miles. The biggest issue will be maintaining a lock if your target dives down below you and use the terrain as masking. So in general the F-4 sparrows will be quite easy to evade for someone who knows the bare minimum about missile evasion -
challenge accepted

You are not being mean. I think you guys chose the perfect version of the F-4 to start the phantom family with. The model E phantom is the phantom that is the MOST phantom after all. It saw the most combat, was the most exported version. Just perfect. I for one can't wait to take it to the skies with the J-79 engines leaving a smoketrail that would make Swedish environmentalists scream just as loud as the engine itself

hehe well good luck getting any front visibility

My bet is that the F-4 will drop sometime in Q4 November or December. They teased the F-4 in the 2022 and beyond video released in january and historically they released teased modules at the end of the year (or at least aim to do so). But who knows. Summer is a horrible time to release new products as it is low season for DCS (more people being outside or on vacation). For all we know they might be pretty much done and are just doing polishing and waiting for the correct time for release. But that being said I want more schizoposting

Will the F-4E module include any Vietnam era AI assets?
Heinlein replied to upyr1's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
A era correct fueling truck, tow tractor, air start and ground power units would be great to spice up the airfield environment a bit
