  1. It's not that it won't work, but it provides a significant performance boost. Right now that's the only 3rd party 'vr' app/mod I run with the aero. It's set and forget.
  2. No intent to enflame things here... but with the 4090 and Aero I'm pretty well locked at 90fps. I've been building gaming rigs for just about as long as they've been around... I'm talking swap meets in MIT parking lots days... and it's always been an arms race between hardware and software. I eventually settled on two core strategies. (Your mileage and situation WILL vary) 1 - Spend money INSIDE the box first, and peripherals second (including displays). 2 - Save longer if I must, but I never invest in last-generation tech to save a buck. It only means it will be underperforming (or obsolete) sooner. I take your point about a 3080 being enough, because it very well can be. At the end of the day this can be a very expensive hobby and the individual must make their own decisions about where their time and resources are spent. I would NEVER advise someone to spend more $ just for the sake of 'shiny and new' but with the speed at which the tech advances, an individual decision must be made that balances cost/performance and longevity. I wholeheartedly agree that the current prices of equipment are INSANE and largely unwarranted for the uplift, but this is not really a new phenomenon. (A hundred dollars for a 16-bit sound card was nuts to me once upon a time) There are only 2 ways to be a perfectly happy PC gamer.... Be independently wealthy, or live within your means and temper your expectations. I lean heavily on the latter.
  3. Having personally owned and used a Quest2, Reverb G2, Quest Pro, and now the Aero (All on the same system) I can say that the Aero outperforms the others without question. Does it have the best FOV? No (About the same as the G2 to my eyes) Is it the most comfortable? No (Quest Pro with Globular Cluster wins that one for me) Does it have aftermarket accessories? No (Quest series has most, Aero has effectively none) But the performance and clarity are amazing. And it achieves this without the need for tweaking 3rd party mods (OXRTK is amazing, and required for the G2/Quests - But turned off for the Aero) With the Aero, the only thing I use is Mbuccia's Varjo Foveated app. It's all subjective, but that's been MY experience. And I'll echo what's been said here before, if you make the jump from pancake to VR, temper your expectations. It WILL require balancing graphics with performance and you need to go with as high-end hardware as you can to have the best experience. 13900K - RTX4090 - 64GB RAM - M2 SSDs
  4. I set up a dedicated server to play around with. Simple missions run great, everything works as expected. But as I've ratcheted up the complexity, I've found that some basic scripting doesn't want to work properly on the dedicated server, whereas it works as expected when I run it locally. Example. I have a mission that starts the player 'takeoff from ramp' and a flight of f-15Es 'takeoff from runway'. On my local machine, the 15's take off in formation as the mission starts, but on the dedicated server one is parked in the middle of the runway and the other 3 are in the parking area... None of them even attempt to move. Same file, same 'version' of DCS, different behavior. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure this out? thanks!
  5. I've had my Aero for 2 weeks now and I can say that I'm very much enjoying the performance. I started with a Quest 2, then Reverb G2, then Quest Pro, and now the Aero... and I can say without any hesitation whatsoever that it is head and shoulders above all of those from a performance perspective. But it is the bottom of the pile in overall comfort. (For MY melon, the Globular Cluster kit for the Quest Pro wins the prize) My Doctor likes to joke that even though I'm past the half-century mark, I still have the skin of a teenager. Meaning that my skin really does not like to be in contact with some materials for any length of time... especially things like 'pleather'. In the past, the first thing I did was order a fabric-based facial interface. Come on Varjo, for the price you charge for your interfaces, a mesh option would be very considerate. I found that one of the mesh interfaces for my Quest 2 can replace the interface pretty easily, although the Q2 is more oval than the Aero and it doesn't quite line up. Does anyone know of another one that might fit better? I have not found anyone that makes anything for it, at all. Studioform makes the velcro strap and counterweights that go on the existing headstrap, but that doesn't alter the mechanical aspects of the strap system itself. I get that it's a niche product in a niche category, but the utter lack of 3rd party accessories for the Aero is definitely the biggest downside to consider when weighing a potential purchase.
  6. Purchased today, but won't install (Log Below). I'm still on 2.8.8.43704 The description on the Purchase page says it requires 2.8.8 or above. 00000.000 === Log opened UTC 2023-10-20 20:47:49 00000.011 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.16.3.18 (Windows NT 10.0.22621; Win64; en-US) 00000.011 INFO : src-id: f697eb0b6959f621dddfde672932cdb00d183f23, lib-id: b88ea51ae2210987a3865f77cc1802548216d7a8 00000.011 INFO : cmdline: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\dcs_updater.exe" apply 57d44374-20ea-4001-b828-2a1bd47da569 12716 00000.034 STATUS: Initializing... 00000.051 INFO : basedir: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta 00000.051 INFO : variant: openbeta 00000.052 INFO : Command: install GROUND_POUNDER_SIMS_F-16C_FIRST_IN_WEASELS_OVER_SYRIA_campaign 00000.053 INFO : DCS/2.8.8.43704 (x86_64; EN; WORLD,CAUCASUS_terrain,MARIANAISLANDS_terrain,UH-1H,P-51D,A-10C,A-10C_2,FC3,SU-33,FA-18C,F-16C,PERSIANGULF_terrain,SYRIA_terrain,NORMANDY_terrain,THECHANNEL_terrain,NEVADA_terrain,SUPERCARRIER,WWII-ARMOUR,FALKLANDS_terrain,HEATBLUR_F-14,F-86F,MIG-15BIS,REFLECTED_SIMULATIONS_F86_HUNTERS_OVER_THE_YALU_campaign,BUNYAP_CAMPAIGNS_F16C_RED_FLAG_21_1_campaign,F86-MIG15-RELIC_campaign,P51D-BLUENOSEDBASTARDS_campaign,F-5E,SINAIMAP_terrain,AH-64D,RAZBAM_F-15E,SPITFIRE-MKIX,P47D30,MIG-21BIS,BF-109K4,MOSQUITO-FBMKVI,FW-190A8,DEKA_JF-17,RAZBAM_MIG19P) 00000.053 INFO : branch: openbeta 00000.053 STATUS: Downloading version info... 00000.753 STATUS: Preparing to install GROUND_POUNDER_SIMS_F-16C_FIRST_IN_WEASELS_OVER_SYRIA_campaign ... 00000.879 STATUS: Unknown module GROUND_POUNDER_SIMS_F-16C_FIRST_IN_WEASELS_OVER_SYRIA_campaign 00008.078 === Log closed.
  7. Does anyone know how, or if it's possible, to add the 3x requirement to a keyboard-mapped function? Trying to work around an issue with the streamdeck+ where I keep accidentally triggering things mapped to the knob touchscreen while in VR. Was thinking that having the mapped function on those buttons set to require multiple presses might minimize those incidents. (i.e. how Eject is 3x mapped key to trigger) thx
  8. Revisiting this one with a new question about the +.... Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the swipe function of the displays above the dials? I use it exclusively in VR and I find myself inadvertently changing pages as I'm fumbling around for the right button. I still want to use multiple pages, but I would rather use a dedicated button to swap pages than accidentally move to another page.
  9. I had the issue with my G2, but it was only off a little bit. Quite a Bit more out of whack on the QuestPro I'm currently using.... I just kinda live with it. (I am, and have been using MT all along) But I do have an Aero on the way... so I'm going to stalk this thread.
  10. It's been a minute since I used a G2... But I think you want the Top Box checked in the WMR settings... IRC "Headset" in WMR refers to the G2, not your headphones (Also, don't mirror them) In DCS I always set the headphones, mic, etc to "automatic". ?
  11. I good friend of mine tried out my rig and now has the bug to get into DCS, specifically with VR... so now I'm trying to put together a build for him. I'm running a Reverb G2 on a 4090... but I'm having a really hard time justifying having him spend $1800+ on a 4090... but I know if I have him drop to a 4070 series, he'll very likely be disappointed in the relative performance. That leaves the 4080, but I still think the 4080 is overpriced for the performance and specs... Just wanted to see if anyone had experience with the 7900xtx now that the drivers are more mature, and MT is getting ironed out. (I'd be giving him my old Quest 2 to get started) thanks!
  12. Happy to help. Use it as a starting point and adjust to your tastes. As one who incessantly tinkers with settings, I highly recommend documenting your settings and taking copious notes on every change in case you need to fall back. good luck!
  13. Here's my current build/config. I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I claim that this is the way anyone else SHOULD be doing things... this is what I have settled on as an acceptable compromise between performance, comfort, and clarity. I'm pretty much constantly tweaking and trying new tips, but this is what currently works for me, and my personal perception... your mileage may vary. If I'm forgetting something important, let me know. DCS: OpenBeta-MT *Hardware* MSI X790 MPG Carbon GSkill Ripjaws DDR5-6400 (2x32GB) i9-13900k (Mild undervolt using Intel ETU) WD SN850x M2 (one for OS one for DCS) Gigabyte RTX4090 Reverb G2 v2.0 (90hz) *Software* Windows 11 Resizable BAR ON Process Lasso - DCS high priority & CPU Set (Not Affinity) set to 1-7 (P-cores only) Nvidia driver 536.40 (on the fence - 536.23 felt more stable?) 14. I have VERY, VERY similar PC specs, and am also using the G2. I get a fairly stable 85~90fps with good clarity while avoiding using reprojection... almost no judder at 100ft in most maps. I know exactly what you mean by judder ruining the experience, I sacrificed a bit of terrain detail to get rid of it, but totally worth it. I'll try and compile and post my complete config settings when I get back to civilization tonight. Every rig is different, but it should provide a good baseline to tweak your setup.
  15. Suggest you do ALL tuning on local single-player. Multiplayer servers introduce WAY too many variables that can impact your visuals. Even on the same server, every MP session can be different depending on who is connected, where the tides are, and whether or not Mercury is in retrograde.... SP is a much more stable environment to tune in.
  16. Not sure if I completely understand the question, but I have the Toughpower 1350W version of your PSU and feed a Gigabyte 4090 with the single 12VHPWR (600W) cable. Seems to be providing more than enough juice. (And yes, I use the CableMod 180-degree connector to keep the torque on the GPU power to a minimum)
  17. No experience with the oculus settings, but what you are describing sounds like aliasing. I use the G2, and setting AA lower than 4x introduces the kind of aberration you're describing. (perhaps look into Anti-aliasing settings?)
  18. Used to be a snake-oil marketing tactic that you 'need a special cable'... These days it's a reality. Get your hands on a certified USB 3.1 or 3.2 cable and it will probably work. (Don't trust that Amazon will send a real 3.2 cable, even if it explicitly says so.... Ask me how I know)
  19. I figured as much. So a plea to the devs of the dcs-interface to get this done... Or a time machine where I go back and make myself shift my ComSci major to coding instead of networking... thanks!
  20. EXTREMELY unlikely that Apple will be friendly to PCs or gamers in general....
  21. Open XR. G2 - Better performance, and more tweaking with the toolkit.
  22. Ok, pulled the trigger on a + and I have started building profiles. Is there a DCS input/display profile that can be assigned to the dials? I figured out that I can map hotkeys to CW/CCW but how about displaying something like current frequency or other live data from DCS info like you can with the buttons?
  23. Thanks @bones1014 - Just what I needed to know. One more technology to buy, learn, and integrate with this thing.... I'm reaching the point where I could have just bought a used Cessna.
