Using RCTRL Enter I found that the trim does work indeed, as does the DLC. I know I need to hold DLC in position, I still mostly don't see any result of it at all, though I did see the flaps move in the mirror. There was a part in my last attempt where I managed to keep it quite stable for a small time, though nowhere near all the way through. So basically it comes down to me needing lots and lots more practise.

The reason I use the autopilot (altitude and heading) is because even with autopilot turned off I get no visible result when using the trim buttons (the 8-way HAT atop the stick) so I don't really trust the trim function the way I have it now. The DLC is configurable as slider I thought, since the VKB F14 stick also uses a slider for this function. I know this because I intend to upgrade to the stick in the future. I'll try the land landing pattern more often, hopefully that helps. I have a bit of deadstick and then a curve of 10 to 13 I thought. The same value seems to work for pitch and roll for me, though I don't know if that leaves room for improvement.

Thanks for the advice Draconus. An inprecise stick will certainly not help. In the attempt you see in the screenshot I tried the DLC (I have this bound to the rudder lever on the throttle of the HOTAS) but the vertical speed did not change, this with autopilot on. Currently I don't have the Supercarrier module so that would make things easier, though I also don't see the lights on the ship itself. My RIO did contact the ship, but there is no reply on every attempt. The RIO calling the Ball is part of the training so you'll have your hands free for manouvring.

nullRecently I have been trying to land the Tomcat on the Stennis with still only 1 kind of succesful landing as a result, though I broke part of my landing gear and an engine during this. While going through the training (comes with the F14 module) I noticed that the FLOLS does not appear on my screen, but also the lights at the back of the boat and the landing mirror also do not light when I approach the boat. Have I missed a step here? What am I doing wrong here? While I'm at it, I'm struggling quite a lot with keeping the bird at least somewhat straight and level, or in this case on speed. I really need the autopilot on to get close to straight and level flight. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I have tried trimming but I don't see any result of this. Also, for some reason I don't seem to be able to get the DLC working. When trying to use it and not seeing any result I sometimes go from full up to full down and back without any results. Currently I use the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS, can that give me any additional difficulty flying? Can you guys help me out?

Could this not be somewhat neutralized by making the seeker a bit better then it really was? At the end of the day the results would then get closer to the real results described here. The improvement doesn't need to be huge, just a bit less vulnerable to notching. Just me thinking out loud. Thanks for all the information, I learned a lot here.

The target itself was not jamming, there was another target jamming (though that was not locked at that moment) within the radar range, not quite close to the locked target. The target was at 2k ft altitude, I suppose that qualifies as low flying? Guidance failure I can't rule out nor confirm. I did see reports (from Karon) stating shots at 80NM with some kills as well. I didn't know that would only work when the target is coming towards you and flying at least somewhat high.

Sounds to me like you fire the missiles in the wrong windows. The Phoenix needs to be fired at high altitude and preferably at high speed, if this is not met it will never reach it's range potential. In my experience it can be defeated but a Phoenix missile fired in the correct window comes flying almost straight down in RWR's blindspot making it quite easy to fully surprise it's intended victim. When not firing at the absolute limit of it's range with a target track all the way it will have energy left to manouvre with the target. When the missile get's slow it has no means of regaining speed, so naturelly it can then easily be defeated by a single turn or even powering up ever so slightly. It's engine is long burned out so it's only gliding to the target. In my opinion the Phoenix is far more reliable then the AIM-7, especially when you need to turn a lot and the target is manouvring as well. In my experience the AIM-7 tends to not work any better then any unguided rocket quite often (say like 10% of the missiles fired), I never have this issue with the Phoenix.

In my experience Jester is quite on top of things, except when I cheat using the F10 map. Usually he is quite focused on the locked target and I rarely see him use ranges beyond 100NM. In my opinion he is sometimes too focused, especially when locking the same plane for longer because the range and conditions are not yet optimal for firing a Phoenix. It could be useful to see more targets on the radar screen every once in a while to keep some situational awareness though I suppose that is not how the AWG9 works. It might also be that I don't trust Jester enough to select the targets I want him too and don't see enough happening on my screen to know which target is selected. That might be due to a combination of friendly fire incidents and lack of Track IR which I now do have for about a month. Anyways, when I call out a range to Jester, usually I don't see any changes to it until the locked target is well within the closer setting, and even then he seems to adjust the scale later then usual.

I use VoiceAttack for getting straight into the range menu by calling "Jester range". This voice command uses the Jester menu but gets to the desired page in a fraction of a second. If you so choose you could set this up 1 step further by adding the desired range to the voice command though you might want to buy VoiceAttack as the 20 free voice commands can be quite limited when you're using like 6 commands for the range alone. Alternatively, you can set your phone or tablet up in a similar fashion using an app called Touch Portal. I use both, though I use VoiceAttack the most for critical commands (like switching the master arm, going from sparrow to phoenix, going to PLM mode, dropping tanks), while I use Touch Portal for switching the HUD mode.

Have they removed the armor of the flightdeck? I got the same issue but with 0% damage.

When I was the flying the Mighty Tomcat today A was launching an AIM7 Sparrow from my left wingstation to a target that was some 15 degrees to my right. Upon launching a started turning to the right a bit as well, but as I started doing this my Sparrow caught up with me and blasted me out of the sky. Is this normal for a Sparrow and just bad playing on my part or something that should be fixed? The attached screenshot gives the most proof, I watched the trackfile, it suggests that I fired a Sidewinder rather then a Sparrow and also the positions on the F10 map are quite far off. 4YA_Nev_PVE2_V2.15[01_MAR_SCT]-20230322-202647.trk

F-14 TOMCAT stream deck XL profile with RIO cockpit
Tweety777 replied to jonny415's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Since I intent to use Touch Portal Pro instead of a Stream Deck XL (price difference is simply too great to make up for me) I decided to start using the Stream Deck files to make the icons for Touch Portal. Please find them attached for however wants to use them. Unfortunately I can't get the seperate switch positions out of the screenshots but this offers something a better solution then simple text with a colour behind it. If someone wants to help out any further please feel free. Currently I use keybinds in Touch Portal, though I'm not sure wether that will work for all functions added here so I'll need to look into that further in the future. At this moment I'm only testing a bit with the free version of Touch Portal on an Ipad tablet. F-14 Touch Portal.zip -
MT white flickering on windshield/ canopy upon loading in server
Tweety777 replied to Tweety777's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi IronMike, It happens when spanwing into the aircraft, while everything is being loaded. See screenshots below. Now that I look more into it I noticed the windshield in the middle is far to white all the time as if a flashlight is lighting it from the below. The flickering is on the other windows. The grey outside the aircraft is the flightdeck of USS Roosevelt. -
When loading into the Tomcat in a MP server the windshield and canopy start flickering white (about a second on, second off, maybe a bit faster) which lasts until the server is fully loaded (which is much faster now, thanks for the multithreading!). This happens both at night and in daylight and in every server I loaded into.

I did find a server where different sets of AI planes have different skill levels. Some can easily be taken out by a single missile while others keep evading and shoot me out of the sky in a dogfight (hard to kill an enemy that you can't see, improving on that at the moment) Seems like there already is a solution to this problem, though not everyone might be fully aware of this causing this to not be used more often in multiplayer servers.

I've been thinking about the me being shut down shortly after firing the Sidewinder, I think I might have ripped the wings off of the plane rather then passing the missile. Just after turning on the afterburners I pulled the stick back really hard, this is shown on YouTube to be capable of ripping the wings off. The other incidents where I passed the missile the missile was most likely near hitting the ground while I was still up high in the air. The missile simple ran out of speed and was dropping out of the sky. I tried to mark this is solved, hopefully that worked as intended
