  1. I was wondering about this. Another damn shame situation with ED just letting stuff slide. Just cuz it's an older module doesn't mean it deserves to be ignored. It's a crazy huge important aircraft in the history of air warfare. It's unbelievable how little effort ED seems to put into older modules. <sigh>
  2. Yeah, I was about to report this. Been on a list for years now? Perhaps it's about fricken time it got fixed!! WTAF! Seriously, how can they leave such an egregious bug present as if they don't care. "Oh, just turn off the rain. It's fine." No. No it's not "just fine." Why is the rain even there then if we're just to not enable it? The things ED totally blows off gets more and more and more frustrating and even infuriating. For now I just turn on the windshield wipers as if they work and play make believe as if it's 1994 computer gaming or something.
  3. Due to the Huey campaign Paradise Lost being retuned for the new engine model, I spent a LOT of time fighting with it. And setting some curves, such as 30 on the collective. I am now quite comfortable flying with the new engine model. It's still too powerful and can get the Huey going WAY too fast. And IMO too much left pedal needs to be applied too often. But HEY! At least I can fly it as if I have a clue now.
  4. I was going to ask about this. As far as I can tell, this happens when doing parts of the startup procedure out of order. I've had it show both max and nothing for pressure. I can't quite work out exactly what part of the startup sequence messes it up tho. But I THINK it has to do with turning on the inverter before the engine is fully spooled up, also possibly due to disconnecting ground power too soon. I can not reliably reproduce it, but when it happens that seems to be the commonality.
  5. So I have never in my year+ that I've had the Huey have I ever attempted sling loading. I've been afraid of it. Imagining how hard it will be to control the helo with that weight hanging underneath it. So I did a user-made sling load training mission first. NAILED IT on my first try. Like 10+ sling loads to do in that mission. I moved on to the 2nd and. .......... Pulled a maneuver WAYYY too hot to slow down and fell into VRS and boom boomed. So I just jumped directly into mission 4 in Paradise Lost. Nailed it first try. \o/ WOOT!! I'm gettin the hang of this new engine/FM model. I notice that I tense up a lot, particularly when trying to slow down into a hover. I start making many fast jerky movements on cyclic and pedals and tryign to counter with collective. Then I (out loud) tell myself, "Relax. Calm down. Smooth. Smooth is safe and safe is smooth." And LO! The helo is suddenly stable in flight and I barely have to make adjustments at all. Amazing what a mental block can do eh. Sadly, the reply is corrupt and the helo is jerking left and right in yaw and I end up crashing while attempting to land after dropping off the cargo. FREAKIN TRACK REPLAY SYSTEM GAAAHHHHH!! I really really wish DCS would fix it. I know there's something in their pipeline about it. But still. GAAHHH! How hard is it to screw something that simple up? Flight sims have been recording tracks for eons. But DCS can't do it right. <sigh>
  6. Wait what? I too use voice attack. What command can you make that centers the mouse in the VR view? "Center in HUD" is useful in aircraft with a HUD. Huey and such tho, not so much. The more I think about it, simply an option to "Restrict mouse to VR view" would be SO freakin awesome. Most of the time when I "lose" the mouse cursor it's outside my VR view. Which is needless and .... Why?
  7. If only ED would take it over. They haven't been doing "great" recently, but at least they're doing SOMETHING. Mag 3? uhhh .... Updates whenever, no real info. Just ..... I don't really think they're that into it. At all. Heyyyy now. Hold your horses there. Let's be careful about saying how much we'll pay for stuff. Modules are already on the high end of pricey. For real tho, I'd pay a reasonable amount, like 15 to 20 bucks usd, for an update to bring the MiG-21bis up to current standards. While they work on a v2. (Which current owners would of course get a nice discount on. Say ... 30 or 40 bucks usd)
  8. I find that hitting ESC to open that menu often helps me find it. Using the F10 map is a good idea, might try it.
  9. I can't tell you how many times I have "lost" my mouse cursor while in VR. I wiggle it around and it's nowhere to be seen. I catch a glimpse out of the corner of my eye and look over there, but no mouse cursor. Pretty please may we have a command to center the mouse cursor on screen in front of us? Also, how about an option to limit the mouse cursor to remain within the VR field of view. When I "lose it" it's most often outside my VR view. Thanks.
  10. Quite so. Archive.org has some awesome stuff, lots of it public domain or CC0 (non-sequiter: You can also play a lot of old 8-bit computer games directly in your browser using an embedded emulator. Very cool) I checked the National Archives too. They've got a bunch of 'Nam recordings they intend to digitize, but haven't yet. Definitely something to keep an eye on.
  11. I found a good source of "replacement" files. Recordings of AFRV (American Armed Forces Radio Vietnam). Of course, there's commercial music in them, so it is up to the end-user to choose one and replace the radio station file. It's pretty awesome that it's per-mission too, as there are A FREAKIN WHOMP TON of these recordings. Days worth. Not even kidding. Aside from the music, they're public domain, as it's government material. And easy to convert the .mp3 files to .ogg. Audacity is free and can do it lickity split. EDIT: Okay. Not as simple as I thought to convert the .mp3 files to .ogg. They're quite low volume, and need just a slight bit of processing to increase the volume. It can be done in Audacity easily. https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3A"American+Armed+Forces+Radio+Vietnam"
  12. HEY! I don't know why, but the simFFB from the initial post works now. Yay Now ........ All the settings. uhh ... In particular what are offset x/y for? And is deadband x/y to account for the play in the stick? Is there another way I can remedy that? Otherwise, I suppose it's a matter of experimenting with settings while playing.
  13. I have tried playing it several times, but no matter what I do the mission won't end after the final landing. I've decided to just skip it, but I reckon that really should get fixed. Attached is a track file in which I try numerous post-taxiing landing spots. Huey Helo Landings UN Campaign Wont End.trk
  14. Awesome, thanks! I'm very glad it's that easy. Yeah, copyright in music is ridiculous. I say that as a musician. It's truly insane. <sigh> I've also already replaced several of the menu music themes. MiG-21bis with the Vietnamese nat. anthem, MiG-15bis with the N.Korea nat. anthem, MiG-29 with E. German nat. anthem, Su-27 series with Sovio-russia nat. anthem ...
  15. I love that you put the station in, but the repetition cycle is a little short. No criticism, I understand totally: Licensing. Is there somehow I can add more music to it, perhaps redirect it to my music library? thanks
  16. I notice the positive response as well. Encouraging on that level, regarding user-interest. The navigation is also in dire need of updating, so add that as a 3rd need along with FM and sound. Regarding sound, someone HAS made a sound mod (2022) that IMO is pretty decent. It does go into the base directory, but is easy to turn into a mod -- I use JSGME. Also, it does pass IC (last I looked) >> https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3326441/ We'd need an earlier MiG-21 model and F-4 model. I don't think the F-4E ever went up agains the MiG-21bis. I may well be mistaken. Perhaps even likely. I'm just being silly now tho. Close enough is close enough.
  17. !! THANK YOU !! for taking this upon yourselves, you and your team. ED/Magnitude damn well better allow it to pass IC, since Mag3 won't do it themselves and it's pretty essential for "realistic" navigation in the Fishbed. So irritating that it's seemingly abandoned. <sigh> Question: So we have to re-edit files with every update, orrrrr .... Not entirely certain what all needs to be done after an update. I'm hoping it's possible to make a simple JSGME mod to enable after every update. That's what I do with all other mods that go in the base install directory and it works great.
  18. Finally finished mission 1. And overall it went pretty smooth, tho I'm lucky I didn't crash or rip the rotors off on one landing attempt. Please don't take me as complaining previously. I've been playing almost nothing but the first mission, trying to come to terms with the new (more powerful engined) flight model. I think I'm getting a grip on it at last. Despite simply being a series of landings, I found mission 1 VERY engaging and completing it very very satisfying. I spent hours in VR trying to nail it, over and over and over. I most DEFINITELY learned how important it is to dust off and go around for another try if a landing isn't looking good or even just not "feeling right." Anyhow, thanks. Also thanks for encouraging me to work with the new engine model.
  19. Cool thanks. I am starting to come to terms with the new flight model. In no small part because I set a curve of 40 on my collective. MUCH finer control.
  20. I'm trying to complete mission 1 and came very close finally. But I failed my landing at the hospital after picking up the troops. It really would help if there were a wind sock there, as judging wind direction is otherwise nigh impossible. The smoke from my crash indicated the wind is coming from a different direction than I thought. Regarding navigation. The mission screen notes and my commander keep tell me I can use FM homing to find FSB Berlin, but that does not appear to work. I am certain I have it set correctly. I'm not sure if this is a DCS issue or what. The commander also tells me I can use FM homing to find the troops that need extraction. So the freq. list has VHF, UHF, and FM. Is the VHF supposed to go in the VHF/AM comms radio or the VHF nav radio or both? I get confused as to what frequencies I'm supposed to use and why and in which situations. Or perhaps I need to use the ADF radio, I didn't try that. Not sure the needed freq. can even be entered into it tho. And then there's the cow in the middle of the LZ at FSB Berlin. While I appreciate the humor there .... Why? (and how?) ..... Surely the soldiers would get the cow out of there before I land. ..... Or perhaps I'm supposed to land on the pad; but its placement in relation to the smoke and flagpole makes that tricky at best.
  21. Apparantly (I've not personally tried) the 19-rocket launchers work, just not the 7-rocket launchers.
  22. Good point. You can't use 2nd stage burner above 6000m.
  23. Above I claimed the MiG-21bis can accelerate vertically. I was wrong. Apologies. Altho it can have a T:W of 1.0 to 1.1 in A/A combat configuration, its drag characteristics will prohibit vertical acceleration and actually cause the airspeed to reduce. Along with this, the engine's primary feed tank's fuel pump wouldn't like that at all, and would fail to keep up with the maneuver and cause fuel starvation and flame out of the engine. Still, it can hold it's own for a short time in the vertical. The fuel system tho is probably the aircraft's biggest fault, as it's too easy to fuel-starve the engine during high-G (+ or - but especially -), vertical, and inverted maneuvers. ........ That and the lag in changing thrust. My bad.
  24. Fair nuf. I shall try to get used to the new FM. I've been playing mission 1 with the old FM and it's been working, tho redlining is perhaps more of an issue. I have lit the engine on fire once LOL. Mostly tho I struggle with maintaining control in the winds when landing. In the new flight model I can barely take off let alone land. It irritates me and makes me feel like I've never (sim)flown a helo before.
  25. I've found that many people aren't aware of this, so just spreading awareness. ED put an option in the Huey's FMOptions.lua to revert to the old flight model. And yes, it passes IC.
